"Long John Silver", indeed. The show is a loose prequel to the classic novel "Treasure Island", blending in fictional characters from the book (like Silver & Flint) with real historical pirates of the era (Vane and his pals Jack Rackham & Anne Bonny).
Silver was a member of the merchant ship's crew but he saw the opportunity to pose as the cook to get "hired" by the pirates (because the real cook told him even pirate crews were always looking for cooks). He saw a chance to live through the pirate attack and maybe steal something of value (the mystery page the real cook had) and make a quick buck for himself.

Hey, thanks for watching! It's awesome that you named your cat after Captain Flint. I really like him so far. I've never read Treasure Island, but it's on my list of classics I want to read. The last one I read was Wuthering Heights. Not a fan.
@@kimmycupreacts I hope you will read "Treasure Island" after watching the show. Or even while watching it. It's quite fun to know the book beforehand because of how different each show character starts out from who they are by the time the book begins.
I love "Wuthering Heights" but I always say it shouldn't be read as a love story but a cautionary tale about obsession and greed and why you shouldn't be a dick. 😂
