It has been 10 years since I was running around the same training area. It must require incredible effort to keep up the motivation to train alone. One thing he must learn when training in college is to find a training routine that works best for him while following the coach. There have been quite a few athletes who moved to the US for college with a performance decline possibly due to drastic changes in training environment/routine. I hope William finds a good balance for himself.
It's just amazing that he's become a 14'11" 5k runner in a couple of years of training. I wish a good luck on his running carrier in college. U of Michigan has produced some outstanding distance runners like Alan Webb and Ben flanagan. I will be watching for him on NCAA and hope he will be one of those someday.

日本の集団でみんなで頑張ってやるのも良さではあるけど、こうやって16〜18歳の頃から1人でモチベーション維持しながらタイムを上げていける事、ペースも気持ちもコントロールしながら目標に向かって進めるところに外国人の魅力を感じます。
アメリカの大学を選択したのもマッチしてると思うから、ぜひ頑張って欲しい。応援します。
そうですね、同じ陸上をやっているのに色んなアプローチがあって面白いです。
こう言うアプローチが日本でもできると日本の学生に見せたかったです！

日本の高校総体にでたりはしないのですか？
国際校（インターナショナルスクール）はおそらく連盟的なところで出場できないはずだった気がします。
Williamの国際高校では日本の部活みたいなような陸上部はないので団体としてのレベルは低いです。 高校総体に出る意味がないのですかね？そしてコーチ/担当者が外国人の方ですとやりとりが難しくなります。
基本的に色んなスポーツを一年通してやっていて一つのスポーツに集中したければ個人、高校外でやるかしかないです。
