Great addition on the end with the $20 light comparison. It certainly was nice to compare and see how similar the results can be - even with much less setup and a much cheaper softbox. I actually have a fairly large 32" softbox with a grid paired with the Godox SL-60W, I love them together for product shots! Always great content, keep it up!
Hey Barely noticed the color issues. Quick question for you man, I bought 2 Aputure H198 Lights last year from from one of your Budget Lighting Kit Videos. I am waiting to save enough money for the H672 Daylight. Do you Think this is my best Option for a key light? I see you are using a lot more softened Light now? Thanks in Advance Greg With PTT.
Hi, you make such nice videos, and feel like you're very much experienced in light source for table top videos, can you help me by telling how to shoot mobile screen, because when I shoot mobile screen for tips or review, I always face screen flickering/blinking, especially when I shoot mobile closely.
I know you’re trying to stick to more personally fulfilling projects, and much props to you for your 2024 commitments to your personal truth and creativity. I RILLY RILLY hope you get this series going again, I just LOVE this stuff B roll is so fun!
I think these types of videos are WAY more helpful for aspiring photographers and videographers than a camera review. I love that you included a super cheap option at the end too. Great job Caleb!
Thanks Caleb for doing this series and breaking down your production workflow. Always appreciate that you offer a budget solution to help us new to the game. Looking forward to the next one!
such underrated content man! thumbnails to content and being straight to the point. you helped me TONS and i can't understand why you don't have more views or subcounts. I WANNA SEE YOU BIG!!!
I just feel blessed to live in these times and absorb quality knowledge sitting at my home. Your channel has really helped a lot. Please keep making videos like these. Nicely made tutorials Caleb. Looking forward to more exciting content towards more of filmmaking in terms of storytelling.
Super helpful stuff here Caleb! Really appreciate these types of videos from. I love that you explain the concept instead of just what gear to use. Helps me get creative to find solutions while I'm shooting instead of giving up because "I don't have the gear."
Loving this series! Getting a cheaper Neewer softbox and viltrox LED (per your cheap monitor reviews) has produced a greater quality leap in my videos than ANY other gear. If you made a longer form lighting guide, I would gladly purchase!
Thank you sooooo much for these series! Lighting and giving the scenes the good mood is always a tricky thing for me and this just made my day! Please also consider how to create different light setups for interviews and people in general. Thanks again!
I love the Falcon Eyes lights, but, oh the price. I know this isn't a DIY channel, but I've been using a 4 bulb 4' fluorescent fixture with 4-4' LED 6000K bulbs. Total cost about $40 and it's only about 2" deep so I leave it mounted on my ceiling but I could hang it from chain if I wanted to lower it. I've got another one mounted on a stand with a swivel that I use as a sidelight either vertically or horizontally. I also built 2 large diffuser frames with 1/2" PVC and 90 degree elbows from Home Depot for about $14 all in. You can buy prebuilt fixtures with your choice of temp (5000/5600/6000K) like I described now for ~$30ea thanks to our weed growing friends in CA and CO getting light manufacturers to boost production. Being a cheapskate unleashes my creativity. It's gotten to the point where I check Amazon or building stores before I buy and lighting specifically aimed at photogs. LED's have gotten cheap everywhere except the camera store.
These practical videos are very helpful and relatable, Caleb. I am learning about and experimenting with lighting for product photography right now. Keep 'em coming, please.
Great video Caleb! In an early intro of yours you used a moving light to create some drama to the shot. I would love to see a tutorial on how you did that. I too am loving this tutorial series!
Really enjoying this new series, Caleb! I like when you get into the weeds of how to achieve various looks even on limited budgets. I hope it inspires people to innovate with what they have and not always throw money at the problem.
Another little tweak is to use a really small light source, like a tiny LED flashlight, position it on the opposite side of your shooting camera axis and shine it directly into the lens of the subject camera (or lens, or anything else that features glass). It will create a tiny little catchlight in the reflection and make it look more shiny. Bonus points if you do an extreme close-up of the subject lens and slowly pan the catchlight from side to side, creating some sort of halo in the glass element. Zeiss do this beautifully in their CP.3 presentation video in the beginning, I feel this technique gives a good close-up shot just a little extra spark to make it great.
That little DIY foam board holder is awesome. I've got a bunch of scraps laying around that I was looking to put to work - think I just found a job for them!
So ! got a softbox, another led fill light and some white papers and cheap macro extension on the kit lens of my tiny M6 Mark II. Lets see whether this video helps ! thanks
Great ideas for setting up lighting. Unlike you, I’m primarily a woodworker and need to take photos of some of my work. You’re ideas are still very helpful as I try to find batter ways to show off the things that I make,
Thanks Caleb for this helpful series, I really appreciate it ❤️❤️ Could you do a short video about designing the set it self to shoot the B-roll, I really like the colors that you choose and the accessories that you through in like this fake plant to make the shot more interesting, I think this adds a lot to the b-roll too. Thanks
i would love to buy some lights for my youtube but i get completely lost when it comes to stands, lights etc so most of the time i use a window and works fine but you motivate me to get some lights for these b-rolls :D
Hi! I graduated bachelors in film school and i'm so thankful for your professional language. Actually it's rear to hear academically correct language on youtube :)
I always love to see these bts type breakdowns. You did another one where you showed how you used vape juice to create a smokey look on a lens close-up. I appreciate your content and have for quite a long while now.
Such a great and well explained video. I feel like anyone who does product photography for instagram as a source of income would find some really useful tips from the video too.
This is super helpful, thank you Caleb! Any suggestions or advice in shooting a smartphone device? I'm currently doing videos for iPhone/iOS and Android and wanted to have a perfect video for my audience.
Thanks for the great vide, maybe make a video about making your B-roll more interesting with extra objects in the shot like the little plant you have there.
Hi Caleb. I'm curious if there are dummy batteries for those sony np batteries because I have an old aputure amaran led video lights and its troublesome because it only use batteries.
Hey Caleb, are you still using those Menik LED lights? I was wondering since you had some more time with them if you would still recommend them? Thanks for all that you do!
Hi, thanks for your time and effort in this videos you make, can you help me decide between falcon eyes Rx-24td vs Intellytech litecloth 120, both lights are like 120 dollars apart and have similar characteristics, what would you recommend in terms of build quality and durability? Note: litecloth 160 is out of my budget.
yes i need help on shooting b roll like this but adding rgb light! in the backdrop towards the product and getting an epic shot like that. what type of apeture and iso and shutter with a slider and a sigma 18-35mm f1.8 metabones speedbooster on a G7 please! thanks! i bought your master class thing for the g7 and helped a lot!
I’m no where near the level as you at this stuff but love watching and learning. If I may I ask when using lighting like these cool light than the back warmer light what are you setting white balance for? The white light (same kelvin) or do you adjust somewhere in the middle. Sorry if this was way off topic.
Thanks man! This was helpful! I am getting into this, lighting my face during my tutorials. Would love some feedback if you have a few minutes to spare.
Any fellow video buffs here editing 4K footage from NVMe drives ? I just want to know if there will be a real difference between this and a normal SSD drive when it comes to 4K footage editing. The OS drive is a separate normal SSD on my system and i have other separate HDDs for renders/ backup etc. Im going to buy a NVMe so im wondering should it go in as my OS System Drive or would it serve better as a 4K footage edit drive.
Ciao Kayla, how are you? Loved the video appreciate and love all your work mate! Right now I’m looking at sound. Which 🎙 mic 🎤 are you using for this video? The quality is some of finest I have ever heard on any video period. Is your room you are filming sound proof and or using pads or anything along those lines to reduce noise? I AM SERIOUSLY 😳 LOOKING VERY FORWARD TO HEARING YOUR RESPONSE. 😃✅🔥🤓 THANK YOU VERY KINDLY. Garfield
Apologies for the crazy color on this one! Used resolve and messed up a few shots ;-) Have a great day everyone!
I never noticed... 😎
Yeah, I was gonna say that your lips looked odd colour in the last scene around 11:20 :D

Great video btw Caleb!

Thanks for sharing - it's a good reminder of how much one can do with a simpler setup. It inspires me to play around more with still life work.

I didn’t know about the “baby plates”! I’m definitely ordering a few to free up some space and give more mounting options. Thank you!
They are awesome!
Amazing series. So much great info. And you are just straightforward and chill man
Dope. Working in a small scale like this is great to hone skills that will be useful later working on a full set with actors etc.
Good stuff... not shooting tabletop but the concepts transfer to many lighting set-ups!
Thank you for sharing these awesome tips Caleb.
Thank you!
This was incredibly helpful. Thanks Caleb! =D

Where'd you get that plant and base?
Great video, just wanted to know how wide your POV lens is when you're looking around your studio in the beginning, thanks!
That was 7mm on MFT... Should give you an idea of how small my studio is ha!
