I think my favorite spindash has the be the Advance games. I like how it curves slightly forward whenever you rev up the spindash. Gives it more personality imo
I like the spin dashs from the various TV shows, anime, movies etc. as well. Some were presented in very unique styles, from the saw in the 90s cartoons or the electrically charged spin ball of the live action movies.
Honestly, I think my favorite one is the 8-bit Sonic 1! So much communicated in just two frames of animation, the jittering goes a long way! Second favorite is the Advance games, I love the slightly cartoons squish, that extra bit of visual feedback gives it more impact during gameplay.
Sonic generations proves that they honestly don’t need cars to make a sonic racing game if drifting was what they were worried about. You spin dashes when you drift in that game. Just because Sonic R was executed terribly doesn’t mean the concept doesn’t work at all.
It still baffles me that modern Sonic doesn’t have spin dash as a regular move. It has to either be linked to a specific ability or action, or it just gets cut out all together.
