Cold war is such an unique movie, it reflects the true tragedy of love in a way no other movie has ever done before.
Definitively one of my favorite movies ever.
This film really captivated me. I’m Polish and more often than not modern Polish films seem shallow and do not leave an impression on me. This is one of the most visceral, beautiful films I’ve ever seen and the songs are that much better because they are sang in my mother tongue and I can fully understand all the nuances.
Natalia.... watch „ Najlepszy” Eng title braking the limits or something like that „ Boże ciało” Corpus Christi... „Kler” - Clergy .. and „ Twarz” - mug. You will like or even love it.
I am brazilian and I saw it again yesterday. The same power from some years ago when I saw at cinema. So beautiful, What a masterpiece.
That scene where Wiktor has Zula sing a melody after she asks him if he's into her is a very lovely musical reference
I loves you Porgy.
I can't shake this movie off of me. Every now and then I think about it, and rewatch some parts. But this is the first time i stumbled upon this video essay and I am amazed. Thank you, dear man. I can't make my friends watch some important movies, and I need you to make these kind of videos so I can send them away to them lol
The subtitles for like half the movie on Amazon Prime were missing. While watching this essay I realised how much of a dialogue / lyrics I missed. The film STILL left a massive impact on me. Some brilliant visual filmmaking. What a beautiful movie.
THIS!!!!!!!
I was wondering if i was paying attention to the movie... Both you and me were.
the amazon subtitles failed us!!!!
The bold move of the film is to structure the film sort of like a series of postcards sent from different places at different times. We recognize the same handwriting in each one. This style is like a memory play and allows the audience to fill in the blanks, and lends a lyrical quality to what is a musical of sorts.
this movie is an absolute masterpiece
What a beautiful essay! Great job, man.
Thank you. It is a shame that this fine expository has not found a larger audience. It deserves this.
Absolutely brilliant work on the video essay., You expertly encapsulate this power of the leitmotif and the power of music transcending genre and meaning
Fantastic analysis of the film! I was blown away after having watched it just now but I love it even more after this video. Thank you
rarely do I find such well made movie reviews as this. It is very clear and to the point, just what I was looking for. Good job!
As an example of a nonmusical leitmotif, George Crow cites this film’s use of various mirrors.
Interesting. Who is George Crow? Could you link me his paper?
Seeking information about the folk song at 1:42, please.
Thank you for that essay. From Poland 🇵🇱
Thank you for such kind words. Really means a lot coming from a fellow slav. :)

Thanks a lot. I plan on making more. Make sure to subscribe to get the notification.

Brilliant analysis of a most amazing achievement!
A movie that stays with you. Quite remarkable.
There are so many subtle details I missed that you highlighted beautifully! Amazing job friend! 💜
Also form 11:30-11:40 does anybody kind of hear the La La Land tune?
@@1996MURADa Now that you say it, yes absolutely
Brilliant cinema. My mentor would have loved it. A suggestion for a future video essay: The Assassin by Director Hou Hsiao-Hsien
You got a new subscriber for this one! Lover of _Ida_ & _Cold War..._

Probably Glenn gould
Thanks!
Great analysis! Does anyone know the name of the piano piece on the background of the video? Thx
Bach Goldberg Variations. Also used in the film "The English Patient".
Excellent movie. Excellent in every aspect.
Потрясающе красивая актриса
Masterpiece 💕
Hey mate, thanks for make this emotive video. Do you know if the song of the young girl's scene was recorded or I just can find It on the film? Thnaks in advance.
Great review of the greatest movie x
Thanks so much.
Cinema is all about giving the audience a treat…leave your home and come to the cinema hall…because I promise you…it’s going to be wonderful two hours of your day….
I watched this film and the only thing i can say is that people's soul disposition to find beauty in toxins and pathlogy is horrifying. Even though it's wrapped in a very attractive superficiality.
what song started at 0:50 ???
It is from Bach's Goldberg Variations. Pawel uses it in the closing credits of the film.
The movie is too dark for me. But to it's credit, it realy captures life. My life. I have darkness in my life as well. I prefer to go to other worlds, escape from my own darkness. Saing that, my fav movie of all time is Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. Also a rather dark movie, but I feel like this movie lacks hope. Hope is what is keeping me alive.
Interesting and I know what you mean. I have this darkness around me too and I totally resonate with the hopelesness. I wonder even if it is a slavic thing, this melancholy and tragedy without hope… I can imagine that for many people it’s too heavy
@5:31 what 'circumstances' exactly?
I just saw the movie and I'm both fascinated & frustrated...especially with Zula...why does she leave him so many times? that too in such extreme ways...didn't make sense at all...is there some subtext I'm missing? is it that she loves her homeland too much or is it because wiktor lied about her to the producer or something else? the video essay did not help in any way!
great video but i think you need a better mic dude
🍂✨🍂
just saw it...... so you here....like me.
poland is not yet lost. taiwan, ukraine, hong kong.
bro trash that mic yesterday please.
Sadly I didn't 'get' this movie as good as the music and visuals were.
I didn't like either of the leads and I didn't get their choices; either of them returning to Poland for a start.
The age gap was bothering too.
Anyhow, hope you enjoyed it.
ble ble ble :(((((
Nunca había visto tanta glosa disfrazada de ensayo. Igual muy padre la película.
I appreciate your analysis, but gosh, really didn't like this movie myself. I'm just sick of the doomed love story trope.
At least you are honest
i think this movie is kinda overrated to the point that i dont really get most of the praise it gets, it was really rushed and it had no pacing at all, just a lot of time skips and underdeveloped characters that seek conflict for no reason XD cinematically its really pretty, but nothing else
Nail on head, its a movie in the way Ed Sheeran is a musician!!! Has popular appeal but others just cant connect with it.
