GM made a mistake with the Blazer nameplate. Should have remade it into a modern version of the original not a lame compact SUV.
That was indeed a huge mistake. Also, the Colorado based Trail Blazer has such a bad design it barely sales...
I agree with that. They shoulda come out with a true off-roader called the Blazer that could compete with the Wrangler and the Bronco. I like somebody's idea here that the current "Blazer" shoulda been called the "Nomad".
Same Mistake Ford made with the Taurus nameplate!. Fusion should have been the new Taurus and Last Taurus should have been nameed and remained the 500.
True
They could still make a GMC Jimmy from the parts bin of the Colorado/Canyon. But current leadership has chosen to ditch what consumer want and has gone all in on EVs for their future.
Toyota needs to bring Fj back.
Mini Cruiser perhaps?

This is the eventual route all stellantis vehicles will go. Look to the new ram-charger truck.

@@NM-235 I don't think either of those vehicles has any outstanding break down issues as far as customer experiences goes, the worst recalls you get are safety issues. Do your research. Other than the 4 runner Toyota reliability isn’t good. Check out the new Tacoma it’s having one problem after another. It has cheap trash underpinnings and bad engineering. You are living in the past
@billricheter5678 what are you smoking? Who's made more reliable vehicles than toyota/lexus?
@@alchemistx1 no need to be rude. Some Toyota models are reliable some are subpar. Don’t live in the past and assume because it says Toyota and is made in Mexico it’s well put together. Most Lexus models are solid though
the tech and interior is very outdated compared to other luxury cars. Just because you have one, don't convince yourself its the best. Critique your own cars so they can become better. Hyundai many times matches toyotas warranty nowadays. So reliability wise its about the same because "stranded on the road" is probably only less than 1%. While most can take it into the shop for free
Toyota was always the best in 4x4... maybe in the US the perspective is different... i dont see any other vehicle that may compete other than the Wrangler. Toyota has the Land Cruiser, the Prado, the Tacoma/Hilux, the Fortuner, th LC70 the 4Runner, the Lexus GX etc... I think stellantis should add landrover and jaguar……since Jeep wants to go upmarket landrover can be their luxury division
i gotta agree, toyota is slaying the off road suv market and they kinda have dominated it for a long while w the land cruiser/gx in terms of overlanding. the fact that xoverland has toyota as their sponsor says alot, and they did get the 1st trailhunter tacoma in the US. toyota even tried to trademark the name overlander for the gx but had to settle for overtrail. if you want to see this rig all decked out to what it could be check out the jaos edition. its pretty sweet. the 4runner has done well but wrangler and bronco have surpassed it. starting w the top dog two rows we have the discovery, ineos, and gx550. the gx will sell well vs ineos bc it is the most practical daily driver. not many people will take their discoveries off road bc they are luxury crossovers now kind of like the jeep gc. toyota has every price range covered w rav4trd in the 30s, 4runner in 40s, land c in the 50s, sequoia in the 60s, and gx550 in the 70s+. they could even compete directly w a two door bronco or wrangler and bring back the fj. ineos is a true overlander bc it has solid axles and a front locker but i think its more at home in say africa, the outback or the desert but anywhere really bc it can go anywhere. id still rather have a gx overtrail even though it does not have a front locker or build an expedition sxt two row custom timberline in that size for american byways. i think the landcruiser will do well vs jeep gc bc its a smaller 2row body on frame hybrid. the grand c is not a good base for offroad though it has quadra d2 but its not all that modifiable like a landcruiser most likely will be. the biggest tires you can put on it are 265/65/18 which are like 31.5" tall. im sure the land c will fit 265/70/18s wo a lift.
the new 4 runner will also do very good in sales vs the wrangler and bronco bc of price, practicality for offroad families, and mod capability for those whose wanting to take it a step further. with the exception of bronco and wrangler it seems like the american brands are falling behind in terms of offroad suv prowess, while the focus has been on trucks. more than good there. im sure the timberline will come back eventually in the refreshed explorer but its still a crossover. what jeep really needs is a 4runner fighter. a new budget, body on frame, ifs, steel spring, v6 cherokee? an suv geared for offroaders to build on yet still family friendly in stock form. something in the 40k price range of course w a bunch of other offroad trim or pkg goodies like lockers, 4low, and skids.
This could be an absolutely huge year for Toyota in the off road space. They went from having multiple models being pretty dated for 2024 to new tacoma, new landrover, and the imminent announcement of the 4runner redesign. If they get the price right on the 4runner, they are going to make a killing in this space since Ford and especially Jeep have gone price crazy. I could easily see the people being priced out of jeep possibly flocking to towards toyota.

Autoblog posted Nissan is considering the revival of Xterra. Given the success of the Frontier, how likely you think we will see a Xterra in the near future? Will the Dealer Adjustment be $10,000 on the 6th Gen 4Runner? Is it really coming out next year? They have been saying that for the last 4 years.
That jeep going around that curve looked good.
A tundra plug in hybrid is a game changer. My last Tundra most of my work was 80 percent city , but still need to pull big loads , drive 700 km . A 40 mile plug in would of cut gas down a huge amount ( currently own 2 hybrid since 2013 )
I want to know the difference in 5th Gen and 6 Gen with Ground Clearance Breakover MPG Tire size is it worth upgrading ? Take these two to Moab ?
I expect the 4Runner to feed directly into the Cruiser in price
The Taco really starts in the mid-30's so the 4Runner can start just above it, near $40k,
and run up to the Cruiser, in the high $50s
Getting arid of the Cherokee was a mistake. Especially the Trailhawk model. I still will take a wrangler. But I love everything Toyota has put out.
Do you guys think you can figure out when Toyota will do the official announcement of the 6th Gen 4runner? Based on the teaser schedule from the Landcruiser last year.
I'd base it off the teaser schedule of the Tacoma last yer.
Here’s some news. According to the Toyota website Tacoma Build pages the new 6spd manual has been down rated to the base i4 engine. It’s down 30% on hp and torque from what they had said it would be. Maybe the front differential can’t handle the torque.
Nice review.
I always thought the 4Runner competed against the Bronco and the Jeep, all three are competent off road vehicles that are body on frame and designed with off roading in mind. Plus, the aftermarket support is enormous.
I wouldn’t even consider the Explorer as an off road vehicle. It’s a fantastic family hauler, the AWD is fine for light off road work, but it doesn’t have the ground clearance the Jeep, 4 Runner, or Bronco offer. Plus, it’s a unibody, not a body on frame. I my mind The Explorer doesn’t even compete in the off roading category.
People already forgetting the new Taco snapping the front diff. I seen a new taco yesterday and first thought to my head brittle and a liability off-road. Toyota has a lot to makeup.
Well we can forget a removable top from Toyota. Based on that rear hatch. I just hope the manual makes it back which I am highly convinced it will.

Here in Toronto Canada they are getting stolen faster than they roll off the assembly line. Park it in your driveway or at the mall and go shopping it's a 50/50 chance it will be there when you return. Do it daily like parking and taking the train or subway to work and there is a 100% chance it will be stolen.
Didnt the new Tundra (or Tacoma, I forget which) already have a recall?
These truck manufacturers do a great job “romanticizing “ off road capabilities that 99% of us will never use. The commercials make people fantasize about the freedom of the outdoors. To me, as long as a vehicle can handle snowstorms and maybe a little mud, I’m good. However, I did use 4 low and lockers in my Tacoma to get me out of a blizzard one time in 8 years. Was nice to have , but I think a quality ride on the road is more my focus now
I love my 4runner but the frame is going. My mechanic said 1 year to 3 max depends on how much snow we get. Waiting to see what Toyota does with the new 4runner.
not to mention we might be having a Xterra on the way too
New xtrerra is not coming buddy and Even if it did .it wont bother Toyota at all.
Did the 4runner ever lose the crown in the first place?
Unfortunately yes, but I’d love to see this new one finally out perform a wrangler. Also, if you doubt me, open invitation to anyone with a stock new Toyota to join me on a tough trail (stock wrangler here).
@@coloradomallcrawlers Yeah, good idea to ask 4runner to join you. You know that the 4runner can bring you back home safely or can go back and bring part(s) to fix your broken down Wrangler on a trail. I'm just joking. Of course, Jeeps are more off-road capable even in stock form with approach and departure angle along with solid axle, etc. To me the biggest issue with the 4runner and the Land Cruiser is their front and rear ends sticking out too much from the tires. But then Toyota never made them to be rock crawlers.
All the 4Runner needs to do is maintain its current off-road abilities but add the convertible top and removable doors feature. With Toyota’s reliability reputation, they would seriously take a major bite out of Wrangler/Bonco sales then. Most people will never do extreme rock crawling off-roading…but love the fun open air experience. It’s not like any of them are cheap or affordable anymore.
Unfortunately the new 4Runner, just like the new Land Cruiser, will not get the turbo V-6. That sucks. These trucks are just too large to be powered by a 4, whether it’s hybrid or not, and the Toyota 4 is just not all that satisfying or refined if you drive the new Tacoma or Lexus RX.
@@shield010 toyota's " reliability" reputation LEFT with the 2024 tacoma.
Toyota needs to offer factory 35s and 37s on the 4Runner, along with front lockers and sway bar disconnect, as well as removable top and doors. If they do this, I will trade my Bronco Badlands for a 4Runner in a heart beat.
Wonder if those Tacoma front diff issues are also going to be on the new 4Runner.
IF they price it anything like the Tacoma, only a small percentage will buy it.

The 15 year old 4R design top trim still sells for ~60k and they fly off the lot. A 15 year old design… I’m sure they we’ll sell just fine.

So where does the Sequoia sit in the Toyota lineup? That’s the part that’s not super clear.
The Sequioa now sits where the 200 Series Land Cruiser used to sit, on top of the lineup. The real issue is, now that the Land Cruiser (in North America) has now gone downmarket, where does that put the 4runner?

Ok, but, the problem I see is that Toyotas big advantage has been their durability. They maintained that durability and reliability by staying with 20 year old technology. Now they have modernized their Engines and transmission. I’m already hearing stories from Toyota mechanics about how many problems they are seeing with the new drive train.
Ford is also fighting problems with the Engines and Transmission in their trucks and Broncos. There is talk of recalls on their turbo engines.
Jeep. As long as you stay away from the 4XE and stick with the 3.6 V6 , you should be in fine shape.
I have several friends that drive the older V6 4 runners. I drive an older Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 and 8 speed automatic. My GC is trail rated. I have more power, better ride, much better gas mileage. And can match them off-road without breaking a sweat.
That 3.6 is okay, I would not say you will be good. I currently have one. Runs okay, but needs the lifters replaced at least once a year. Terrible design. Not to mention dang electrical issues. Ground faults. Still love it and looking at getting a Gladiator. My wife though does not trust any Stellantis product, so she got a Bronco. Has been great so far. I think a lot of times these issues get blown out of proportion by online creators trying to get clicks. Toyota should be fine.
What problems is Ford having with Bronco engines and trans? They had one problem with a small sample of 2.7s that got a bad run of valves. The 2.7 is the volume selling engine across the lineup with very little problems. The 10 speed is in just about every Ford and there are no major issues.
I think Toyota and Lexus have nailed the styling on these 2 (Land Cruiser and GX). I like the GX better. I think Toyota has identified their weakest link: styling. They've never before been a leader in that category IMO.

These are for mall crawler individuals. My wife has a brand new Bronco, we do light off roading, beach stuff, but no way I’m going out and pushing it. That’s for the old beat up paid for truck. 😂
according to youtube, everyone does this, why are you
@@therealjohnsmith4811and how do you know?
jeep is basically trying to be a luxury brand at this point, the wrangler is impractical and only good as a second vehicle for most ppl (ie people with money), while their every vehciles have escalated in price drastically, they have no entry vehicles
Started when Women started buying Wranglers and people started trading rubber ducks. It's a lifestyle symbol now. Lifestyles are money makers.
@@brandonrides8953Bronco jumped on the wagon quick too.
@@crawdaddct The Broncos are junk especially offroad!
Wrangler is so ridiculously overpriced. With sincerity, I can't stop associating stupidity with the people driving them. And does Jeep include tattoos and a pit bull with every sale?
I hope the 4Runner will offer a manual, and one that isn't bad.
If that short cut is coming from Jeep, Toyota needs a FJ that's actually a callback to tbe 40/45....not some joke of an EV.
Ther 4Runner should be the lowest cost of mfg it has ever been as it is going to contain so much content from the Tacoma which does 250k unit sales in the USA. Add 135-150k 4Runner unit sales and Toyota should be able to offer the new 4Runner at a very competitive price. If they choose to do so is the question that will need to be answered in the very near future.
I just bought a Lexus CT200H with winter tires. Getting 45 MPG easily
Holy crap the 550 makes more hp and torque than a gm 8.1 vortec 😮
Truly, the gems 💎 are the GX460 and 5th generation 4Runner. Anyone on the market should buy it NOW. You will regret if you don’t get them. The newer offerings from Toyota is moving towards more power, more unrefined unproven territories. It is going to be years to iron teething challenges.
Few people give Land Rover the respect they are due. I have a Jeep but have watched tons of Jeeps be pulled out of trouble by a Rover.
Toyota has always had a lot of 4x4s
Is Roman going through chemotherapy?
Low end?
I wish Honda would buy Jeep from Stellantis before they drive the brand into the ground. Jeep needs a large automotive company with a good corporate philosophy and solid engineering behind it to keep the brand alive. Honda needs an offroad component in it's lineup and they have excellent business acumen and an excellent engineering reputation. Stellantis just fired 250 of it's engineers...I think the problems are more in the board room at Stellantis and not in the engineering department.
If you want them to end up elements, sure.
Jeep is such an iconic brand I think Honda would be smart enough to keep them true to the Jeep heritage and not try and rebrand them as Hondas. Jeep's main appeal is it's ruggedness in image and capability. Jeep is already screwing that up by trying to make them more upscale and luxurious and expensive. The money and engineering should be put into the drive train for dependability and keeping the amenities as simple as possible to keep costs down.@@Echo22WC
If they make another solid front axle land cruiser then it's over
