    Very few open marriages work long term because people end up falling for the side partners or one person ends up becoming resentful and checks out.

    Call me narrow-minded, or ultra-conservative or whatever, but to me, a marriage is a CLOSED relationship between TWO people, mutually exclusive. I detest the idea of an "open marriage." What's that, anyway? A good excuse to get STDs?
    I might be wrong, but when one partner starts waxing about the glory of open marriage, he or she simply wants any extramarital straying sanctified.
    As the wife in that story found out the hard way, an open marriage tends to be unstable.
