I started smoking Marlboro at 15 as that’s what my dad smoked. I was a 2 pack a day smoker. I quit 10 years ago at 30. I am the first person to quit in a family of smokers. I just got tired of the constant coughing when you wake up and through out the day. Now days a carton of Marlboros will run you close to $100 if not more (adjusted for inflation). Do that math on that on. Well I did. And I was spending over $1500-$2000 per month on tobacco. In the ten years I quit. I saved over $50,000 and was able to buy a brand new truck cash.
I started on Lambert and Butler blues back in 2020, nowadays I quit in 2023, Marlboros break easily in the rain, I smoked them before yet they too expensive in the UK, so changed later on to Bensons and Hedges blues, gold and odd time red, gotta say smoking weren't too bad just it's an expensive habit, green helped me quit as had less addiction issues!

No such law has ever passed. The closest thing is for 2 weeks in 1908 New York City banned establishments from providing smoking areas to women, but it was vetoed.

0:50 "In the 1920s Congress proposed a bill that would ban women from smoking in public...." THAT'S MISLEADING AND NOT COMPLETELY TRUE. Basic and quick research on the Sullivan Ordinance finds this bit on wikipedia: The Sullivan Ordinance was a municipal law passed on January 21, 1908, in New York City by the board of aldermen, barring the management of a public place from allowing women to smoke within their venue.[1] The ordinance did not bar women from smoking in general nor did the ordinance bar women from smoking in public, only public places. Right after the ordinance was enacted, on January 22, Katie Mulcahey, the only person cited for breaking this ordinance, was fined $5 for smoking in public and arrested for refusing to pay the fine; however, the ordinance itself did not mention fines nor does it ban women from smoking in public. She was released the next day.[2] The mayor at the time, George B. McClellan Jr., vetoed the ordinance two weeks later So it was in 1908, not during the 1920s. It wasn't US congress that passed the law but rather New York City board of alderman. It's wasn't a ban for smoking in public, only public places. Seems this YT creator either didn't do his research right or is deliberately misleading.
That's true. I'm a non-smoker but whenever I find myself buying an occasional pack of cigarettes for a party or some kind of get-together, I only know Marlboro, the rest is some kind of noise.
I worked for Philip Morris international and speciality was in cigarette filters at that time in the 1990s Philip Morris knew that smoking will be cut down and branched out into food processing industry and bought out a brewery as well .Philip Morris specially built 6000 acre glass house waiting for weed to be legal .
I'm glad the organic and non-GMO food movements became popular before weed was legalized. People now buy far higher quality and less chemically adulterated weed than what Philip Morris would have ended up selling.
Watching this whole video had me thinking towards the end, if Marlboro became so popular along with other cigarette companies through advertisement, how has vaping become so popular with almost zero advertisement? Or at least any that I’ve seen. Great video by the way! Thank you
Glad you liked it! To answer ur question, I think all the unregulated fruity flavors on the market intrigue young kids/adults alike. It's supposedly "better" than cigs as well, although that's far from being proven long-term.
@@bcproductionvideos I can vouch from personal experience vape is much better than cigarettes and I think by now it's been proven beyond doubt, the only controversy remaining is people who did not smoke at all start vaping.
@@Vitorruy1 better in what sense? I'm a former smoker and most of my friends still smoke. Those that don't, vape. Those that vape seem far more hooked than those that smoke regular cigs. It's probably the freedom of being able to vape virtually anywhere that makes it so hard to quit. Vaping "may" be better than cigarettes but getting off ALL nicotine is and should be the goal. You'll feel sooo much better, I can't even put into words just how much better you'll feel. Another thing- those I know that vape actually take in MORE chemicals throughout the day as they're constantly pulling off their vape. This is probably what negates this whole vaping is better than cigs debate.
The F1 car too tho. Marlboro man is something known in the US. But if you say Marlboro to anyone in the world, they'll think of schumacher, Ferrari and the F1 car. Absolutely iconic.
I was going to say pall mall is one of the most common and bought cigarettes that I know of at least with my experience. Out of all the cigarettes that I tried pall mall was the only one that felt like a good cigarette that always had that unique felling when smoking it.
I smoked from 14 (1997) to 32. Rolled my own for the last 5 years of that, then went to a vaporizer and then quit. Cigarettes won't be around in 50 years I can almost guarantee it. Alot of people still smoked when I was a teen and started, now almost noone does. I still say smokers have rights to smoke, even though I hate the smell now myself. Instead of just ocassional cigarette smoke in traffic now I smell weed people are smoking...times do change....
Originally Cigarette ads were supposed to end on December 31, 1970, but the cigarette manufacturers were able to get a one day extension on the deadline. They all were major sponsors of the New Year’s Day bowl games back then. Because it was the last day, just about every ad that ran on those college football games that day (or any other program) was for a cigarette.
Marlboro reminds me of my geography teacher back in the high school. He would stand in the front of the class teaching us while smoking Marlboro menthol. Dont ask me why he was allowed to do that, it was trully different era. 😂😂

When I used to smoke Marlborough was the most expensive brand in NZ so I would buy on special occasions. What I loved was the non-chemical taste of the tobacco, to me it just seemed all cigarettes should be this good but unfortunately none weren't!?
I like Marlboro Filter Black the most, up to the point that Marlboro Red feels somewhat mediocre. But, I doubt it's sold outside Indonesia. After all, Marlboro Filter Black is a kretek variant made by HM Sampoerna (better known for it's brand Dji Sam Soe).
Marlboro is also one of the most iconic motorsport sponsors. Formula 1, rally, Le Mans, TransAm, Indycar, you could look at the grid and you’d find multiple cars in red and white. If you think of it, Formula 1 was the perfect product for Marlboro to sponsor. It combines the glamour they tried to appeal to in the 50’s and the rugged sense of adventure and maverick-ness their later ads did. The only major racing sport they didn’t sponsor was NASCAR, and that’s only because Winston already had it on lock
I'm 28 and started smoking around 18 years old. I turned 18 in 2014 at that time you could still purchase cigarettes at that age. I smoked menthol cigarettes for a few years and quit due to frequent coughs 2 yrs ago I started vaping and while it doesn't cause me to cough it's a lot harder to stop vaping than it was quitting cigarettes.
I never understood the appeal for Marlboro’s, the taste was pretty bland, Camels had the best flavor to me, but that’s me. I quit years ago but came across a pack of Camels a few months ago and smoked them all over about a week, it was so nice lol
1971 didn't cease print ads, only TV and Radio. What unexpectedly came from that is the cigarette companies becoming major sponsors of sporting events. To Note: The Virginia Slims Women's Tennis tournaments, The Winston Cup and The Marlboro Grand Prix. So instead of a few 60 second commercials interspersed within the sports broadcast, the name of the sport became the commercial.
I find Marlboro is one the most iconic logos ever just like coca cola or McDonald's and Levi's and the makers choice red wax dip on the bottle tops...... Just a shame it's product is so harmful!
@@bluemamba5317 you gotta eat and drink to survive I'm not saying Coca cola or McDonald's is not harmful but you don't need to smoke tobacco to survive and I can't compare soft drinks and burgers to cigarettes there is a massive difference in the dangers between them maybe that's just my opinion I guess it's like saying you can get a sugar free cola and a salad at McDonald's and comparing that to getting a lower strength packet of cigarettes? I started smoking Marlboro at 15 as that’s what my dad smoked. I was a 2 pack a day smoker. I quit 10 years ago at 30. I am the first person to quit in a family of smokers. I just got tired of the constant coughing when you wake up and through out the day. Now days a carton of Marlboros will run you close to $100 if not more (adjusted for inflation). Do that math on that on. Well I did. And I was spending over $1500-$2000 per month on tobacco. In the ten years I quit. I saved over $50,000 and was able to buy a brand new truck cash.

No such law has ever passed. The closest thing is for 2 weeks in 1908 New York City banned establishments from providing smoking areas to women, but it was vetoed.

TV and radio ads went away in 1971. Print ads and point of sale advertising are still legal. Print ads can no longer be on billboards or transit busses, But are still allowed in magazines aimed at a majority (85%) adult audience.
I remember billboard ads were *everywhere*. Mostly newport, "alive with pleasure". pfft.
@@ocstrangeness Yes, I remember seeing way more Newport billboards than Marlboro ones. Not so fun fact Newport billboards were mainly in or near places with a large Black population. (Black Americans tend to prefer menthol cigarettes, but there was variety: Kool, Salem.....) Newport advertised so heavily to the Black community from the 60's-80's that Newport has a near monopoly in the Black community, An while Marlboro is the biggest brand over all there is still variety among White smokers: Pall-Mall, Winston, Lucky Strike, Marlboro and yes Newport.

0:50 "In the 1920s Congress proposed a bill that would ban women from smoking in public...." THAT'S MISLEADING AND NOT COMPLETELY TRUE. Basic and quick research on the Sullivan Ordinance finds this bit on wikipedia:
The Sullivan Ordinance was a municipal law passed on January 21, 1908, in New York City by the board of aldermen, barring the management of a public place from allowing women to smoke within their venue.[1] The ordinance did not bar women from smoking in general nor did the ordinance bar women from smoking in public, only public places. McClellan Jr., vetoed the ordinance two weeks later
So it was in 1908, not during the 1920s. It wasn't US congress that passed the law but rather New York City board of alderman. It's wasn't a ban for smoking in public, only public places. Seems this YT creator either didn't do his research right or is deliberately misleading.
I thought this video was great until I fact-checked a few things, that was just one part he got wrong.
One short-lived local city ordinance is a far cry from “Congress passed…”
Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead, he was the true ambassador for the brand.
Hey is tobacco smell in factory dangerous or not
@@acagrujic292 no
I'm glad the organic and non-GMO food movements became popular before weed was legalized. People now buy far higher quality and less chemically adulterated weed than what Philip Morris would have ended up selling.
I’m smoking Marlboro at home while watching the video and i love it. Say no to alcohol
Say no to smoking
Counter-advertisment : its popular because its banned.
Streisand effect
Quit smoking almost 9 years ago. Man, I loved those Marlboros! Still miss it.
Started smoking in high school when I was 15, quit when I was 25. I'm 34 now and haven't touched a cigarette since then.
The F1 car too tho. Marlboro man is something known in the US. But if you say Marlboro to anyone in the world, they'll think of schumacher, Ferrari and the F1 car. Absolutely iconic.
I added those F1 cars to my video idea list! Ive seen a lot of comments about them so I'm gonna look into them :)
Marlboro still sponsors the Ferrari F1 teams. They are just more of a "silent" partner now since they can't put their logos on the cars anymore.

Smoking Cigarettes is so 20th Century
