I got one about two weeks back for $67 with supposed battery, trackpad and sound problems, none were present and the machine's been working without problems. It's also the blue lobster of Thinkpads, it's silver.
Old thinkpads are a steal. Most of these are standard issue laptops for companies, so they see a lot of usage time. However, if you replace the battery (like you did) they are fine. For most students, this laptop is great. For Computer Science majors, this laptop is even better when paired with Linux. Amazing video. Keep up the good work
i did, f'n loving it so far. bought a broken bios locked one (literally just bios locked, everything else works), going to scrap and sell that motherboard and keep the parts so i have spares in case mine ever has something break.
I just purchased one two months ago. I am pleased and satisfied with my purchase. Here are the specs: T480 i5 8thGen, 32 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD. I paid $230 USD.
there are lethal fatal Bugs like USB C Charging that may self destroy and BAD BAD Solderings that eventually destroy the thing. I have a T410 and a T460 that is still the last GOOD Thinkpad and working reliably well
Just bought a $150 t470p couple days ago, i7 7820HQ+16GB+256GB SSD+940MX graphics +FHD Touchscreen, in great condition. Couldn't be happier with it. Yesterday scored another T480s silver in pristine condition, i7 8650U+16GB+512GB+WQHD display for $230 and is arriving soon.
For those wanting to buy a t480. don't do it. go for a t480s instead since the battery is more future proof. the external battery of the t480 is not being manufactured anymore so it's basically dead space. With this fact in mind you have to realize you will be left with only a smaller 2095mah internal battery, while the t480s has a 4708 battery capacity. And to top it all off the t480 is more efficient and its wifi can be upgraded to wifi 7
You can argue that the t480 is more upgradable but yeah the t480s is built better and a lot lighter. You can still buy batteries but it’ll be 3rd party ones
Got one for 200 USD which is around 18,000 Indian Rupees. i7 8th gen 8650U with FHD and 8gb with 256gb nvme ssd. Display and battery is solid. I will upgrade it soon. For now, does the job for what I wanted. Cheers!
i bought an l480 for 240 euro a few weeks ago. half of what any t480s costed, it has some small cracks on the case. it has 16gbs of ram fingerprint reader 8th gen i5 vpro. 1080p great screen, running linux on it its a joy. only sad thing is the keyboard isn't backlit and the battery isn't great but i solved the latter with a powerbank since it has usb-c charging
That's good to hear, congrats on your purchase you'll get a lot of use out of it. Literally any ThinkPad or even older business laptops are really good.
@@riazxahmed im looking forward to using it as a school laptop, which i know it will do a banger job at that! anything graphics intensive i've got my pc running windows. funnily enough my pc has a 9th gen i5 and its 6 cores while my 8th gen laptop i5 on my thinkpad has 8 since its a vpro
just bought one, but it is still on its way, being delivered.. But, unfortunately I could still afford buying an M2 Sata instead of nvme, will that make a huge difference?
Anyone have an suggestion on where to buy battery for the T480? There are lot of very cheap batteries for the T480 but how do one know if they are not good?
I upgraded mine for 512GB Klevv c710 Nvme gen 3 and i added 16GB More Ram and i Can say this laptop is running everything that i need such as photoshop and some older games like Gta V in 30 FPS without adding any egpu. One thing that you should know is that this laptop have a limit of 1.750MB in read and 1.600MB in write for ssd and you shouldnt buy exprnsive gen4 ssd for it and you will be ine with gen3

just bought one - T480s i5 16gb ram 250gb ssd

How good are they for gaming? Not like AAA gaming and ray tracing stuff, just strategy games and stuff like Rimworld?
Games that you mentioned should run perfectly fine. Unless you get one which has a gpu it would be a lot better.

To my defence the laptop was on the floor and the tripod next to my arms. I don't actually type like that lol😆

I have a t470 with a 6. Gen cpu. Should I upgrade to t480?
I personally wouldn’t, it’s pretty much similar. I would consider the t14 lineup with AMD

CapCut
What about x 280 ????

Very light tiles, more so emulators. Using this for studies should be perfect.
