great teaching, I appreciate the verse references. I believe the only people who flee Judea to the wilderness will be the believers who heed Jesus warnings. The regular Israelites will go into their houses to collect their belongings and suffer the time of tribulation. God has a place for his flock in the wilderness. Joel 3 gives an idea of what will happen to the Israelites during the final 3.5 years.
Joel 3
1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
3 And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.
Plus when Jesus returns all the families will be apart ( exile and captivity)
Zechariah 12
11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.
12 And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;
13 The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart;
14 All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.
who is going to make it of the Israelites?
Zechariah 13
9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
I think this happens early not at the end because of the reference to captivity which is exile.
zechariah 14
2 “For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into exile/captivity , and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.”
