- This is a review of my new Yardmax chipper/shredder. This is a very good chipper and is made really good! Thick metal and a very good design. Thank you for watching and have a Blessed Day Friends!
I bought mine from Rural King and it's done a great job. As you said, it is a CHIPPER, NOT A SHREDDER. The pieces coming out are quite large chips. I have a 90s era Bolens 10hp chipper/shredder that turns the Yardmax chips into much smaller chips and shreds with its "flail wheel". The Yardmax engine starts on the first or second pull every time, not matter how long it's been sitting. I informed Yardmax early this year that this machine is a chipper, not a shredder, and sent photos showing evidence of this, but they have not changed the product description, which I think shows they're more interested in selling more product than being honest with the consumer. Nonetheless, it's a well made machine and does a good job CHIPPING.
Thank you sir for your honest review, comprehensive and presented well. My family and I are in the market, and have been looking at several brands. Your down to earth approach was what we needed to see, and looking at your recent review 2 years after this initial one, convinced us this is the way we needed to go. Have a great day and stay safe out there.
Thank you James. Happy that our video could help you make an informed decision. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Looks nice. I just ordered one coming this Friday. Can't wait to use it.
Still using mine and no problems. You will like it! Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Thank you so much for this review. I have watched probably 50 reviews on wood chippers over the last 2 weeks. I had pretty much decided on getting one from Harbor Freight. But after watching your video, I changed my mind. I decided that the Yardmax will be a much better fit for my needs, and it only costs about an extra hundred dollars. So thank you again. I appreciate it.
I appreciate it and your welcome. It is good to know that I helped you to make an informed decision. My chipper is still doing great and is a great chipper. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
Thank you for this honest to goodness review. You didn't have an angle to sell them and you didn't even have an affiliate sales link. Too many reviews on YT are rubbish. It was great how it stopped up on that big knot. When it comes time to get a chipper for my homestead, the Yardmax YW7565 is on my list. Great review!!!
Thank you my Friend! Happy it was of some help to you in making a decision. It has been a good chipper so far and no complaints. I have heard Rural King sells them also for a really good price. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
We bought a YardMax based on your honest commentary, and are very pleased with it. We live in the southwest and our intention was to grind up juniper branches and cholla cactus. We ended up buying ours from Rural King, however. The company mentioned in the video delivers only to a loading dock, or curbside. But, we have a long driveway. And with them you have to pay $50 for a lift gate to get the 200+# machine to the ground. Thus, we'd have to pick it up, put it in our truck, take it to the house, and then drop it to the ground again. Rural King uses Fed Ex, who comes with a drop gate, had no problem with our driveway, and put the YardMax right were we wanted it. Our juniper grinding is going well, though the cholla can't be done. Not the fault of the YardMax. We'd say for anyone in the SW, that green cholla turns to glue inside the grinder, gumming up the works. We suspect we'll need a blow torch for that! Anyway, thanks Homegrown for the great review.
Thank you Katie for watching and commenting. Happy to hear you like how the chipper does. Rural king is a great place to buy it from. I wished we had one that was close to us. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
good job ! you all have a good day from the Oregon Coast and thanks
Thank you. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin
Thanks for the details in your review! My husband just ordered one after seeing your videos.
Bought one yesterday after watching your review. Best option in this price range for sure. Used it yesterday. Very happy with it. Definitely need earplugs.
Thanks.
Been using it for almost a year. Highly recommend. No problems.
Thank you Justin - we are on a very wooded property and decided to stop bagging and start chipping. We were looking at a Yardmax and you sealed the deal for us - thank you for a very good video - very helpful.
It is a great wood chipper. You will be happy with it! Thanks for watching and have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Hi Justin, just wanted to thank you for your review of your Yardmax chipper. I’ve been researching for days to buy the best chipper I could without breaking the bank, so to speak. Decided on the same yardmax and am very pleased with the chipper. Chips well and if fed right, really doesn’t jam much. Seems to be well built and well designed. Certainly does eat some tree limbs. Thanks again, Rich
Nice to see it in action, man, and I like that you show the pros and cons
Hi Justin- yup I think I like this one too. It really helps to watch you run it and see it in action! Hope you and your family stay safe- keep up the good work and bless you too!
Thank you friend, appreciate your kind comment. I have really enjoyed using this chipper for 2 years now and no complaints. I truly believe for the money it is a winner. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Nice detail. I’m gonna check this out.
Very handy to have a chipper on the homestead. Good video. Thanks Justin and God bless.
I like my new chipper. Should have bought one years ago. Have a Blessed Day Friends!
Thank you so much! This was a really informative video. I just bought that exact model and your willingness to take us through the entire operating process to include (and especially) dealing with a jam was very much appreciated! If all your videos are this quality I may have to subscribe. Too many folks that do this are in a hurry to get it done.. You spent the time to really talk about the subject matter. Thumbs up.
I appreciate it Kirk! I try to give important details as if I was watching the video. The little things are the most important sometimes. Thank you for watching and commenting. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Great chipper/shredder review. Your Yardmax has some very nice features - I really like the fact you can access the flywheel so easily. Great point about rechipping the chips to make them a smaller size. Nicely done sir.
Thank you Friend. Glad you liked the review! Have a Blessed Day Friend!
Honestly this is a great video, very informative about all the important aspects of a chipper I am pretty sure I'm going to pick one up myself!
Thank you Eli! Happy it will help you make an informed decision. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
@@homegrowncountryhomeplace It will definitely! You have a good one too!
I'm getting one similar to this, same design but different make, can I suggest that if cut some Intake air ventilation on the chipper disc housing, not big slits about 4inch long and about inch wide, it will give you greater throw and clearance of the flywheel housing! If you look at most other Chippers with this design you will see that there are air intakes on the rotor housing especially on big crew line Chippers, for example there is a British company called timberwolf which has a 3inch gravity feed chipper called the timberwolf 13 /75 it has a bigger engine but also has the air intake vents. Great video and happy chipping from the United Kingdom!
I realize this is an old video but let me tell you a trick. Had mine for about a year now and it will chip 3 inch logs all day long and never jam up. The factory sets the max engine rpm at 2200. This engine is rated to run at 3600 rpm for maximum hp. I raised mine to 3600 after the first time I used it because it would not chip anything over 1 inch without stalling out. Great machine now that I raised the rpm.
Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin
John Stoffel have you had any problems since raising the rpms? Is it a screw adjustment on the carb and how did you measure the rpms ? Thank you.
Great video! Nice job explaining all its features.
Hi, Justin and family !!! How are you doing? Thanks for sharing your review of this machine. Enjoyed! See you next Monday my, friend.
Doing fine! Thanks and have a Blessed Day Friend!
I'm glad you emphasized safety and caution with the chipper, Justin. I know they come in handy, but they sure aren't toys. (:
They are very dangerous and caution and safety should always be your first priority. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
I hope my remark did not come across as a criticism...You did an excellent job explaining the chipper.
No Mam, I agree with you 100% Thank you for your compliment! Have a Blessed Day Friend!
That clutch feature makes this one stand apart in my opinion. Your not spinning the cutter assembly during start up, I like that. 😎🇺🇸
Thanks for watching friend! Justin
Bought one saturday and am very happy with it..it does an awesome job
Great to hear! Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
It looks like a well made chipper.a great addition to the homestead. Have a blessed day my friend
Great video! I am looking so will take this into consideration.
Great video Justin! Thanks for sharing the love and showing this chipper in action! The tips you shared are great for beginners.
Very informative! Thanks. This video has gone a long way in helping me pick a chipper.
Happy it helped you out. It is a great chipper. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
I just bought this unit and used it the last 2 days. I had a clog quickly because I had the chute pointed to steeply downward into the wheel barrel. Taking the feed chute off and flywheel cover was a bit of a chore but it worked out. Later I had a chunk of wood wedged in at the bottom of the chute stall the machine. I used a long prybar to break it loose instead of taking everything apart again. I also immediately removed the chute flap. After a short time I dialed it in and worked well with this unit. I wish they had a quick access panel to get to the inside for cleanouts after clogs. It's under powered and you have to baby it. But it does produce nice chips. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I did a ton of research on comparable units and I still think this one is best because the flywheel has a disconnect clutch making for easy pull starts. Also most other units had the chute at the base requiring picking it up. I used big totes double stacked and dumped them into the wheel barrel when full. You'll definitely need a Sawzall or chainsaw to cut some branches before putting them into chute.
Nice chipper sir, looks like it'll make ya some fine wood chips!! Thanks for the review!! Dan
That sure is going to come in handy! Nice addition for the homestead :)
It sure is! Using it a lot already. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
That chipper is real nice Justin really enjoyed the video Thankyou for sharing.
Thank you Jeramy. Have a Good week and a Blessed Day Friend!
Excellent informative video. I have the same model and I'm looking for a tutorial on how to replace the belt. Unfortunately, I can't find one specific to the YW765 model. If you have the time to create a tutorial for that particular model, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sure there are many others in the RUclips audience who would find such a tutorial helpful as well.
Thanks for watching. I will if I have to replace belt or other maintenance that may require removing the belt. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Very nice chipper, and great video. Have a great day...Calvin
Thanks y'all! Have a Blessed Day Calvin!
I bought the same chipper and after 2 uses, I found the blades chipped from a metal piece at the bottom of the chute that broke apart. Had that not happened, I'd still be using it. It's currently at the repair shop.
Great review. Just ordered on Wilco online thanks to your recommendation. Keep up the good work
Thank you friend for visiting and watching the video. Your getting a great wood chipper! Have a Blessed Evening! Justin
Thanks for the review. Looks like this might be the one for me
Excellent review. Very much appreciated. Do you think it would be useful for grinding up large piles of leaves, too? Seems like it would make quick work of them.
Thank you! If you throw a lot of them in at one time, I think they would break them down some. It wouldn't do as good as a shredder but would definitely do some good. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin
Thank you for this review! This is going to be so nice for your homestead! New subs here looking forward to seeing more!
Thank you for the Sub. Hope y'all have a Blessed Day Friends!
Great video and very informative. Will be subscribing!!!
Awesome, thank you! We really appreciate it! Thank you for watching and hope it answered any questions you may have. If not, feel free to ask anything and I will try to answer it. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Great video partner!
Thanks just bought one today . I like it
That is great! Appreciate you watching and commenting. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Just bought one, and it chews wood up!! Appreciate your candidness and honesty. I have to ask you though, what did you find the optimal settings are for adjusting the wear plate? Do you adjust for the outer, inner, or both blades?
Thanks Marc, I haven't done anything as for as the blades yet. And the wear plate, I don't know much about that. I would have to research that. Thanks for watching and have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
I was thinking about getting one. If I do, it will be that one. 👍
Looks like a great piece of machine 😊
That’s a great chipper , I would weld or bolt a handle on that discharge shoot so you wouldn’t have to pry it out with a wrench ....
Thanks for the video, I just bought one.
Hope you enjoy it! Appreciate you watching and commenting. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Good video and review. Is the chipper belt driven or direct drive ? I had a belt drive Powerhorse and it burned up belts all the time. How does it do on the smaller twigs branches? Also good highlight on clearing a jam. Thanks
It is belt drive. It is more of a chipper than shredder. I throw small stuff through the shoot a couple of times to make smaller. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin
Thanks. Better than the one I was about to buy. Would have liked to know how little trimming was needed, since everything was trimmed so close.
If your branches are small enough to bend, you can push a limb with branches into the chipper and it will chip it up. Hope this helps. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
Great video !! Thanks so much.
Great review!
helpful vid, thanks dude
Thank you Tony! Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Hi Justin, I have been researching chippers and came across your video review of the Yardmax. How has it held up and have you had any problems with it? How has customer service been? Thank you.
Hello, I haven't had any problems beside my blades needs to be resharpened. It is a solid chipper. I really like mine. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin
I have limbs coming down all the time. Something like this would be a big help.
Wished I had bought one years ago. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
Very nice ❤️👍
Nice job!! Thanks :-)
Mine has gotten hung up several times with small diameter (under 1/2") pieces wrapping themselves around the flywheel shaft and creating so much drag that it will shut down the engine. And it's a royal pain to get them unwrapped. It only happens when I'm doing branches that were alive less than 6 months ago. The old dry stuff isn't a problem. Have you had this issue?
I haven't had this problem yet. I have put green branches that are small but no problem. Thanks for the heads up about this! Have a Blessed Day Friend!
Thank you.
You're welcome! Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Hi it kyleigh
I got a Tazz the other day and I took that deflector off just like you on this un. Yours looks a bit nicer than mine
Can you try to send palm fronds through the chipper? What would you recommend if there's problem?
Make sure to have your chute angled up so it is lrss restrictive and if it clogs up green, maybe try drying them out first if that is possible. I removed the flap inside the exit chute and that helped to keep from clogging the chute. Have a Blessed Day Friend. Justin
Thank you for your suggestion.
The problem is: long fiber stuff gets wrapped around the flywheel axle at the feeding entrance side, which causes the flywheel or engine to stall. The long fiber didn't pass through the holes at the cutting blades.
I understand, that is a problem. Not sure what to do about that. Sorry I couldn't help. Apprecate you watching. Have a Blessed Day Friend.
Hey this chipper is belt drive ? In that case if the engine ever failed or you needed more power could you not install a 13hp engine with a pulley the same size but suited to the bigger crank shaft then it'd have more power ? Just thinking out loud
You probably could I guess. Definitely would have more torque. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
Good day sir. Would it be wise to buy a separate Briggs and Stratton engine with more HP and fit it on to this to get a better performance in chipping bigger branches?
It would give it more power and torque just as long as the manufactured rpms were exceeded. Not sure if the cutting blades and flywheel would handle to big of a branch. Depending on a branch being green or dry makes a big difference how it chips. 2 1/2" branch about max green with dry/rotten about 3 inch. Thanks for watching and have a Blessed Day Friend!
Thanks bro
Good review and tips, sure works better then the Harbor Freight. I sub,ed
Thanks for the sub! Have a Blessed Day Friend!
Only have a small van, so as long as I can take the shcute off, I can lift a 200 lbs machine into the back of it no problem!!
Hey Justin - how easy is it to move around the yard by hand? Thank you sir!
I have no problem at all. The rubber tires makes it really easy. And the cut outs in the upper chute makes it easy to pivot backwards. It is a solid wood chipper. Thank you for watching and have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Thanks Justin! 🙏 One more question for you. Have you tried it with brush piles of smaller leaves & twigs? I have redwood trees. They drop limbs, but also a lot of smaller evergreen debris I’d like to be able to shred. Thanks again!
It will chew small leaves and evergreen limbs like cedar and such. Put more in the chute at one time to get it to chew it up more. Feed it again if you want it smaller. Safety flap on the exit chute has to be removed or it will clog. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
Thanks you Justin - super helpful
@@samo831 Your welcome Friend!
Good morning my friend how’s it going looks like you’re staying busy Albert said it
How you doing Albert. We are getting some much needed rain. Always something to do to keep me busy. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
how does it handle dry leaves?
I have never tried leaves. It is more of a chipper than shredder. So I really don't know how well it would work. Have a Day Friend. Justin
Would this machine be suitable to chip horse manure??
Not for sure how it would work for manure, but it might work fine. You could maybe do some research to found out more. Have a Blessed Day Friends! Tasha
👍 💛
jusltin will it do leaves?
Haven't tried leaves yet. I think it should but don't know how fine it would chopped them. Have a Blessed Day Friend!
This chipper is better than DR chipper
great video but your sample branches were all prepared, stripped of secondary branches and leaves etc.. great features but looks under powered.
Hello, I have another video where I am chipping branches with leaves. As for as power it does good for what it is. I am happy with it. My chipper blades are getting a little dull but it still does pretty good. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
@@homegrowncountryhomeplace Thanks
I'd saw that stuff up and burn it in the heater!!
