    1. Define yourself as Keto. 2. Turn yourself into a total carnivore for 3 - 5 days. 3. Add intermittent fasting. 4. Tap into your emotional management system for endorphin support. 5. Use your bridge(s) in lieu of snacking. BRAVO, Dr. Cywes!

What are the "bridges"? A bottle of green tea?
I thought Dr. Cywes says the body knows when it's thirsty and we don't need to worry about sipping on some drink all day long. I only drink when my body tells me to. I guess I need some bridge, but what?

@@Gesundheit888 Dr. Cywes uses black coffee as his bridge. Between patients, he takes a break, sips on some coffee and clears his brain. A bridge can be something like that, it is meant for you to use that to stay away from snacking all the time. He mentions green tea, coffee, water, and other liquids in his podcasts.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The carbs ain't all sunshine and rainbows. I don't care how tough you are, carbs will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let them. It's not about how much carbs call out to you, keep eating fats and protein and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done." Dr. Robert Cywes

These YT videos do not do justice to the level of passion and depth of knowledge that Dr. Cywes possesses. Podcasts such as Low Carb MD and others give Dr. Cywes the room to really stretch his legs and it's a real eye opener. Huge fan now, Dr. Cywes really digs into the nitty gritty of the biology and metabolic pathways involved in LC eating and disease pathology.

But they do -- I am totally impressed and affected by Dr. Cywes, only by youtube. There's a big world out here, we can't always reach his clinic either through the online or direct access. There's lots of barriers, even to support - currency differentials, e.g. Income levels. He's South African so he knows. I'm here in SADC and am immeasurably better thanks to his youtube generosity. Thank you Dr. Cywes, and may the universe bless you a thousand fold.

Just fettuccine shirataki noodles (rinsed, squeezed dry, sautéed in grass-fed butter), 1/2 lb grass-fed ground beef, topped with grated cheddar cheese. I use Redmond's salt lavishly. It was simple and delicious. Ice water to drink. I can't remember the last time I felt an urge to snack between meals or eat breakfast. Often, I do 24 hour fasts by accident. I'm not hungry and I don't realize how much time has passed since my last meal. I lost all of my middle-age belly fat and I've never felt better in my life. I am a proud ketogenerian!

Thank you for doing this video.
A coworker recommended it to me, it was just what I needed.
I recently fell off the Keto wagon a few months back.
I was doing so good, no sugars and almost nill in carbs and exercising.
I am Hispanic, genetic type II diabetic.
After making the decision to go Keto, after three months, i lost 30 lbs, went from glucose level of 250 to ranging between 90-120.
My A1C went from 11 down to 6.
The most amazing part was I did this in three months , without taking any Metformin.
Unfortunately I fell off, gained much of my weight back and now feel sluggish.
After watching your video, I know exactly what I have to do, because I did it before.
Your advise to go carnivore for 3-5 days is the perfect Jumpstart I needed.
I will be viewing more of your videos to help guide me in the future.
    Thanks again.

As a carb addict when I found keto it was a godsend. I lost nearly 60lbs after struggling with my weight for over a decade.
Following the keto way of eating every ailment I suffered with previously disappeared or improved dramatically. The small justifications for sweets like chewing gum or bingeing on artificial sweetness aka “carb creep” typically led to falling off the wagon for months at a time.
I’ve gained all of the weight back and now lack motivation to following the keto protocol. It is abundantly clear to me now that complete abstinence is my only recourse. I work in a drug treatment center and Doc is right regarding addicts being unable to moderate the use of their drug of choice. Complete abstinence is the only real solution as the alternative is a lifetime of yo-yo behaviors and negative consequences.

After a fast I think I deserve a reward like a keto treat. So, what do I do? I have three of them! It’s crazy. I got sober in 1982 and sometimes I would long to be able to party but I never really craved the drink. Now sugar is another thing altogether. There’s some Girl Scout cookies in the break room and I think about them a lot. I think one dosido won’t hurt but it will. I know one shot and a beer is too many. Beware the cab lookalikes. They are dangerous.

I also lost my way when I had the small kids over to swim in the summer, but I felt so awful after awhile that getting back on my keto plan was easy. I went carnivore cold turkey and made sure I always had my travel mug full of ice water to sip on throughout the day. I took off those unwanted extra pounds very quickly. Sometimes you just need to go backwards to better understand how bad backwards can be. It motivates you to try again for a better lifestyle. Good luck to you on your keto journey!

Vegetarian here -(for all but 7 years of my life and im 65 now )- ive been healthy my whole life raised 3 children and breast fed all of them . have been Keto for 1.5 years now and love this way of eating and definitly identify as a carbaholic - when you are vegetarian we all just thought the best way was to eat rice and beans for our complete proteins...which definitly packed on the pounds now with keto i am extra aware of my protien foods but can still do it. I have lost about 45 pounds now and have about 20 to my goal weight but still feeling great and want to encourage vegetarians that you can eat this way and feel heathier than ever. I realize Dr.Cywes encourages carnivoir but there are many reasons to be vegetarian and i am here to say you can be heathy without eating meat! i am not vegan but i dont eat eggs or milk but i do eat cheese and butter .i am only writing this to encourage other vegetarians as I really get alot from listening to Dr.Cywes and appreciate his youtube programs! The problem is that willpower eventually fails because we don't deal with the underlying urges, they will never go away until we allow urges and learn to tolerate the discomfort. The discomfort from an urge will never kill you, it is merely a vibration in your body. Next time sit down in the shop and look at the "treats", sit with the vibration of the urge for 10 minutes or more if you can, sit there until the vibration calms and the urge is over. Do that enough times and you will overcome your urges, you won't have to battle them anymore, you won't have to babysit yourself through every trip out of your house. ❤️

I happen to like some onions and mushrooms on a steak or some veggies on the side including an occasional potato. I know a carb is a carb whether from a vegetable or a candy bar. But I think a little variety can be a good thing if there are some health benefits from the vegetables.

Before the Atkins Diet, there was the Stillman Diet in the '60's. It was fully carnivore, effective, and ahead of its time. It was also vilified. Thank you, Dr. Cywes, for sharing your own foibles and lessons learned. I appreciate your transparency and relatability.

Thank you so much. I'm a month into ketovore, but I've been vaping for a year and a half now. After watching one of your videos I clearly see that nicotine and sugar both can cause heart attack. It made me sober very quickly to realize that in order to avoid heart disease the vaping must come to an end. I was looking for a substitute, and you mentioned the bridge. I'm going to try a Soda Stream carbonator to make my own fizzy diet drinks, and use those to replace the vaping. Excellent idea, Doctor. Thanks for the bridge to good health.

I'm keto....gone sideways. 🤪 I've quit smoking...twice.... (decades ago) and it was wayyyyy easier than quitting carbs. Doc, my brain is screwy....lol.
Holidays and special occasions. Too much permissiveness. 🥺
I dropped 50 lbs effortlessly in the beginning (2 years ago!) It's carb-creeping its way back.... 😞
    The addiction is real.

Been a keto carnivore for 25 years. I no longer consider cake on my birthday and a complete Christmas dinner a “ mistake” I eat them on purpose. I love the way I feel and look when fat adapted but I refuse to live my life without cake on my birthday and Christmas dinner. I have gone too many without and it’s not worth it anymore to Be deprived

I also will eat birthday cake. A very small slice without ice cream. I also enjoy whatever menu is presented by the host at our family holiday celebrations. These are.not frequent and I feel it is important to participate fully and not announce that I'm keto and can't eat blah blah. My meal portions at these events are always small and I make the best choices from what's served. Now, there are several other keto couples so our family gatherings are quite keto friendly.

@@happydogg312 Gotta win them over slowly, patiently. Several have been won over to keto - my weight loss is hard to deny - and now our meals always offer lots of non-carb options. My clan is very loving and includes several REALLY good cooks who love a challenge. One roasted an organic chicken just for me, the other served me a steak on the side. 💕

These tips are things I was already doing and they freaking work as long as I do remember I’m not just “On a diet” with the rest of the world who wonders why their ‘diet’ failed or why they yo-yo.
    Lifestyle adjustment. Not a diet.

    Maybe I’m a keto evangelist doc 😄
Since adopting the ketogenic way of eating in January it’s effortless. No temptation of refined carbs. Most of the time I’m eating once every 2-3 days on intuitive eating.
I do eat a few berries, non starchy vegetables, lots of salad.
Water fasting only outside of eating window and it’s not challenging or depriving.
But it’s really knowing how to fuel my body so that I’m not hungry all the time. As you said mostly protein and fat. Wholesome nutrient dense foods.
I’ve more time to educate myself, sleep, go for walks, deal with any issues head on without a bridge or crutch. Something in my brain has changed.
    We’re all different.
I use diet doctor website. Sometimes I’ll make a keto treat and it’s ok because the negative feedback loop is working.
After a 14 day water fast in April, I honestly feel like I’ve had bariatric surgery. I cannot physically eat much. Given that it’s mainly protein and fat when I’m done it’s like the shutters come down. If I’ve dishes up too much it’s going in the fridge for another day or in the food caddy bin.
Oh and greetings from London 🇬🇧 👋🏿

I list 85lbs on keto......went and lived it for 2 years and then went on a cruise and I gave myself permission to eat anything....just for a week and I would get back on.....it's been 2 years and I am afraid to get on the scale but I know it's bad by the way my clothes fit. I feel like I am stuck!!!...I did OMAD....and it was so easy to fast....and now I am struggling with the carbs keep calling me back....and kick myself....should I fast for 36 hrs first...I have tried ...but I can't seem to do it because maybe at this point it's not the right things to do. When I first started keto the last time I jumped in with both feet with intermittent fasting and everything. It was liposuction...I felt great...ugh....so I am going to eat just meat for a few days. I am a abstainer not a moderator. If I can find my way back I will never give myself permission to go out of my boundaries again. I was so proud I and 68 years young and I was off of all medication...not my blood pressure is starting to creep up again...I am miserable, highs and lows, bloated, fat and angry with myself! I need Rehab for sure! :(

Good timimg... heading out for a vacation next week. Have been struggling with what and when I will be willing to cheat with to stay the track. I think I am going to go into it keeping a 6 hour window and planning on not giving in to carb allotments... plenty of delicious meat Available to choose from... no need to go bread and cocktail and hit the breaks on my progress.

We had some company last weekend. One of the guys identified himself as a vegan. A five year old, who heard him, said very proudly and quite loudly, "I'm a carnivore!"
He must have been listening to you Dr. Cywes. LOL
Turned out the kid knew what he was talking about, he ate lots of meat and kept telling everyone about it. Quite funny!

I am on low carb diet since years and eat some carbs once in a while. I also smoke a cigarillo once in a while and I drink a glass of wine with my main meals. I don't eat sugar, bread or any pastries. So it is possible to manage such addictive substances. If you understand what carbs do to you it is actually not so hard to avoid them. But then it is really hard to avoid all carbs. Actually the best way to balance the body again to add a few fasting days when it fits your schedule and training.

IDK? Third year of my paleo low carb journey. I've evolved to OMAD BUT have had my nightly beer from Day 1. Went from 235 to 210 lbs and have there for two years ➕, MY 68 year old set point?!💪🙏
    P.S. I've added 🥔 to my menu plan. 😋

People make a big deal when they mess up on their Keto diet. No big deal. It's not like you messed up on your mortgage payments and you're facing eviction.
All you have to do get back on track - you'll be back in ketosis in a couple of days, max, and you're back on track.
