  • A key to successful post-fire bush regeneration is knowing which plants are weeds and which are natives - particularly as seedlings.
    But it can seem overwhelming.
Do you pull it and risk removing a native, or do you leave it and risk letting a weed grow?
It’s almost always better to miss a few weeds then to mistakenly destroy regenerating natives, particularly ones that play important roles in the plant community, or are rare or threatened species.
It helps to tell yourself “If in doubt don’t pull it out - but do find out“
Because if it is a problematic weed you’ll want the chance to prioritise it.
And even familiar plants might look quite different at seedling stage.
So how do you find out? In this video, we share a few ideas that might help.

A huge bugbear of mine is the over reliance on volunteer labour and a reluctance at all levels of government to employ trained staff
