As a mechanic I tend to wonder why some vehicles are shaped the way they are. I bet a lot of them are trying to align pillars with the available air bags they’ll receive.
My wife’s commuter car and our road car is an Outback. My car is a Forester. We HIGHLY Recommend the both of our Subie’s. Her Outback is more comfortable, however. Change the oil every 4K miles with full synthetic oil and your Subaru should last 300K miles.
The structure in all Subarus is vulnerable to the new side impact test. Even the new Impreza has this issue. Hopefully the next generation of the Ascent or Outback will fix this issue.
@@crashcore_cc In the real world, the Outback has the best score for death rate in cars, and also shines in the data supplied by the insurance companies in regard to losses -- payments. The testing is interesting of course, and can be of consideration, but in the end the Outback is really a safe car, followed by the rest of the Subaru line. Impreza and CrossTrek do well for their smaller size.
