All these years later and this is still one of the best synths on the market, IMO. All the parameters work so well together and make it feel like a real instrument. And nothing else sounds/looks like it.
@@PeterWalkerHP16c Agreed. I think the OG Minilogue and Moog Grandmother will be 2 highly sought after synths 20 years from now. Modern classics for sure.
you don't have to know much about synth terminology to play this instrument and in the process of playing it, you learn about synth because of the immediate feedback from the controls. highly recommended
I treated myself to one of these a month or so back and haven't even scratched the surface yet! I know this video was a few years ago now, but thank you so much for clearly showing me the true power of this great piece of kit. :-)
+Geardos It is almost completely full-featured for a basic analog synth, but then it has the effects, sequencer, and arpeggiator. Here I was hoping that they'd release some Volca-esque poly synth with neutered features for $500... And then they come out with this monster, which has everything I could reasonably ask for, at that same price. Incredible, really.
+inthefade Right on - It really is the Mono/Poly of the future I was waiting for, Got the cross mod, ring mod with oscillator sync, and the key modes improve on the Mono/Poly as well. It looks great and it's not a huge thing with smaller keys, like the Odyssey or an odd shape like the MS-20, Delivery from American Musical Supply is estimated on Jan 30.
+Robert Saint John The Gaia is way different than this. This has 4 voices to Gaia's 64. The Gaia is a very digital sounding synth but it's basically 3 synths in one in addition to all the different effects and internal MIDI sounds. I really enjoy my Gaia but it;s in a different ballpark than the Minilogue. In a way, this thing is like a bigger, much better version of the monotribe.
+Franz134L How so?? Because it's "true analog"? LMAO I'd still take a ju-06/jp-08 over this until I hear something from it that doesn't sound identical to Volca keys in tone and noise. Which is what this is more than likely based off of. Notice the lack of pads in this video.......the envelopes in the volca keys suck too.......
Hi All, We asked Daniel Fisher for more specifics on the signal flow of the Minilogue: It is a true 4-voice polyphony synth, with *each voice* having two Oscillators, a resonant 2/4-pole Lowpass Filter, an Amp, two Envelope Generators, and an LFO. Even the Audio In jack is sent, pre-Filter, to each of the four voices. When in DUO Mode, you have two voices with four oscillators per note. When in UNISON, you have eight oscillators for that note. The Minilogue also features Velocity to Filter, and Velocity to Amp, Portamento Times as well as Portamento Modes, MIDI CC#s for the parameters, the ability to sync its LFO, Voice Delay, Arpeggiator, Sequencer, and Portamento to an internal or external clock, plus a Panel Load feature that delivers the sound of the exact current settings of the front panel. I know, it’s hard to believe it’s real at this price point. We have included a Block Diagram of the Minilogue’s signal flow to help you understand what our excitement is all about. Check it out here: bit.ly/1SkjOLc. Thanks for watching!
I had completely talked myself out of this earlier today. Sweetwater and Daniel, you changed my mind. Fastest impulse purchase ever (and my first Korg!). Thanks, and thanks for the great demo.
Are you seeing this Yamaha and Roland? This is what people want. Not $500 digital rompers with no presets (reface). Or purposefully crippled virtual analog that is fully digital but only has four voices (Roland boutique/Aira) in an age when people are carrying around $150 super computers in their pockets.
+DJLemaj They sort of have no choice now. I'm returning the JU-06 and am pre-ordered on this one. Makes no sense to spend 300 on a 4-VOICE DSP VA synth... when 200 more gets me this absolute monster of a 4-voice, 2-osc, VCO VCF VCA synth with a full-fledged sequencer, delay, 200 memories, etc etc etc..... Cross Modulation... detunable unison... I mean really.. wtf. 100% win on Korg's hands.
sooperheep Any good chorus pedal would do it pretty well. But of course the Juno 106 & 60 are legends. I just think this little guy might end up being one itself. And I really just wanted an affordable Poly. This really accomplishes that.
I think Korg has a REAL winner here. I think it looks like a fantastic product at a great price point. I'm guessing MANY people are gonna be happy with this.
Korg impresses. People bitch about mini keys but this will be next year's best hardware instrument. I have absolutely no money due to some major home repairs but I will find some way to buy this synth. It sounds amazing for the price point.
+Blacklily Orchard I think they are 3/4 keys, which are WAY better than minis. Everything I've heard about the way they play is that they are nice enough for one-handed playing. People who continually complain about that should, at this point, just get a good controller with full-sized keys and stop bitching and moaning.
Blacklily Orchard you'll be happy with not only the sound, but the build as well. I still have my Korg Delta DL50 (1978) and it still works perfectly, as well as my Poly61 (1983) again have not repaired either ever. Other than a battery replacement on the Poly61.
My thing is that I already have a good controller with full-sized keys, but this synth doesn't come as rack/desktop model so I'd be stuck with the awkward mini-keys that'd I'd never use taking up space.

FIRST VIDEO DEMO of #KORG #minilogue right now I am watching only via mobile, but what I see and hear is amazing! KORG did make it happen, an polyphonic analog Synthesizer for 500$ /600€. 3 days ago I already preordered :-)
Great demo, bought one of these second hand, glad I did.. Now just to make the time to justify the purchase. Has many interesting sounds, this is my first Synth.
1980 kaufte ich MS 10 /MS 20 & SQ 10, und dann rauschte ich in die Welt der analogen Klangerzeugung, es war wie ein nicht endender Trip. Und diese Maschine knüpft dort an. Thanks for the demo, the sound is absolutely gorgeous.......this is primetime synth work here. Brilliant KORG, this is a new standard for modern analog synth. Cheers !
Reminds me of the Microkorg XL in terms of functions yet it's analog and has a ton of dedicated knobs. Good job Korg. Would have liked a traditional set of pitch/mod wheels and a stronger overall look but all in all this seems to be rather nice.
I LOVE mine. I am an old guy who played and owned synths in and from the 70s on. a machine like this when i was younger would have cost some treasure in extremis. this is a low priced high fun gizmo. love oh yeah.
That's awesome to hear! I'm only 25 and got into all of it a few years ago and am still new to it. I bet you've sat down with some pretty legendary synths!
Fast forward to 13:25. Daniel is explaining the “PORTAMENTO”. My question: Once the glide begins (either from low-to-high or from high-to-low), is it possible to change the speed of the glide in real-time as you turn the rate knob? I know that on other Korg keyboards such as the M50/M3/KROME/KRONOS do not allow the user to adjust the portamento time once the note has been triggered -- unless you lift your finger and retrigger the note, again.....for which defeats the whole purpose of the portamento.
I switched to VST synths years ago. But I'm going to get this little beauty. The designers got it. Love my software synths but this Korg sounds fantastic and the interface is exactly what I like.
Awesome demo. The only thing I missed here was showing how the delay mode works together with the delay effect to get a more spacious delay. I bet this can bring very neat delay patches.
At 9:31, it sounds like some 80's TV series, when something happens, like a plot twist in the middle of the episode, and people have that look of awe in their faces, and then it cuts to the commercial break. (shows like Hart to Hart or something...)
To be fair - Rolands JDXA is a damn fine sounding analog/digital hybrid synth. Roland released the System 500 rack mount analog synth July 2015. Its clear that Roland are now developing the capability to get back into Analog. I expect 2017/18 will be the year we start seeing all analog gear from Roland again...Korg are doing it right. Sensibly priced analog. I still cant get over the fact its 4 voice for £400. Make an 8 voice for under £1000 and you would put everyone else out of business (not a good thing...but that's business).
More than most companies i've always really liked KORG, they always create products that you can really use and at a price people who are Daft Punk can afford.
The sequencer seems to be powerful, but i don't get whether it's really 16 step only or can be extended with a trick. Take 23:27 as an example: is played slowly with delay activated or 64 steps (somehow)? Also: Is it possible to enter chords while step-recording?
Whoa! Where did this come from? I like it. Also, it's about time someone put a little oscilloscope display on the synth. Reminds me of Korg's DS software.
Superb! Would have been nice to hear some pads thuogh. After all it's polyphonic! Demo plays it like a monosynth, though it should preferably had shown the poly-capabilities. Advanced things like playing more than one key at a time ... and stuff ;)
+A Million Orange Dolphins - I just uploaded a pad based video of Minilogue. It's not easy to play pads with only 4 voices but still shows the flexibility of the synth.
+MegaCrasherMusic Agree, especially when you have the delay to fake the bleed from one chord to the next that you'd get with more voices and longer release times. Korg knew what they were doing by adding a delay!
The headphone jack is stereo, but the ' main out ' is monaural. The signal path is not stereo. So if doing pads there's no panning or 'widening' of unison voices. (Unless you use the h/p to feed external fx). I'm not approaching this one as my 'go to' pad machine. Leads and seq fx seem it's strengths.
+Dane Xoth - You're right. One of the few improvements that would have pushed the cost up only a little bit . Would have been great to see oscillators or alternating voices pannable between 2 outputs, Amazing that they have implemented midi c,c, transmission/reception on an analog at this price though.
I was seconds away from ordering a moog mother 32 yesterday... I'm throwing my money at my screen, honestly isn't this a no brainer? Is there some underlying flaw that I cannot see? Why would I not buy this? Please someone answer me I need to be restrained Its got a oscilloscope ffs
The only downside I can think of (I've owned it for 3 years) is the keyboard isn't amazing, feels kinda soft but it's not bad. I just prefer the feel of my Keystep.
So when you turn up the VCF Res ...a built in Delay automatically engages!? Am I missing something here? :P Hahaha! Is that what he was doing above the little Oscilloscope? ...oh, I see... he mentions it at 8:25 √ Anyway... I'm REALLY impressed with this Synthesizer! Way to go Korg! You kinda scared us... moving in the direction of products like the Monotron. But this is EXCELLENT! I was really surprised to read that the whole top is Aluminum & the back panel is actual Wood. Seems like they took special care with the pot construction as well. "...rugged chassis-mounted metal shaft pots with rubber-coated knobs." Ample I/O. Knob per function. Onboard Delay... that sounds REALLY nice! Wow... This is super impressive & sounds so unique... he said it a few times, but I'll say it again, very Musical! Thanks Sweetwater, well done!
Fantastic Demo Vid. Signal Flows, Schmignal Flows. Haha! I could care less! This is an incredible musical instrument. I plan on using the Percussive, Ambient, and OtherWorldly sweeps and dissolves in my studio recordings. If you are a musician, you probably have ears. Listen to this thing. I have a 1980's Oberheim OB-1, but with the presets and 100 Storable Patches of this Monster, it is a simply unbelievable piece of gear. It's on Order and due to ship Mid-March. I'm Psyched!
After you watch, give this video a thumbs up and subscribe! 😎🤘

Can't decide which is more amazing. The synth or your flat top haircut.

Sold. I'm ordering one of these beauties tomorrow.
My Christmas present to me ! hooray
This would almost be like getting my old Korg Mono/Poly back with some added features, but 2 less Oscilators. Really worth the price!!
The sequencer seems to be powerful, but i don't get whether it's really 16 step only or can be extended with a trick. Take 23:27 as an example: is played slowly with delay activated or 64 steps (somehow)? Also: Is it possible to enter chords while step-recording?
very good video, i've had this board for a few months and this is very helpful
turn on subtitles and go to 18:13 trust me
In awe with this thing. I'm a drummer and think this will be cool to use live and also very useful for dark techno and hiphop
Sold!!! Who wouldn't wanna add this to thier musical box of tricks
Korg once again listening to their customers! Amazing sound but I'll wait and see what Arturia do, PolyBrute?
Whoa! Where did this come from? I like it. Also, it's about time someone put a little oscilloscope display on the synth. Reminds me of Korg's DS software.
Looks amazing, well done Korg!
best minilogue presentation
strong korg mono/poly vibes.understandably they couldn't made a mini-version of it as there is no more SSM-chips.job well done as always korg
this is absolutely amazing! korg, youuuuu won! perfect!
Superb! Would have been nice to hear some pads thuogh. After all it's polyphonic! Demo plays it like a monosynth, though it should preferably had shown the poly-capabilities. Advanced things like playing more than one key at a time ... and stuff ;)
+A Million Orange Dolphins Also, more smooth sounds in general... All the sounds in the demo are kinda stabby and harsh.
Excellent review. Great sounding synth. Added to the wishlist.
wow great job korg
I'm speechless.
Oh baby, finally we get to hear it!
amazing product! thanks a lot Korg
14:25 Spy Hunter!! You rock Daniel Fisher!!
Thank you, Daniel Fisher.
That filter sounds beautiful
Awesome! Buying from Sweetwater NOW!
I was seconds away from ordering a moog mother 32 yesterday...
I'm throwing my money at my screen, honestly isn't this a no brainer? Is there some underlying flaw that I cannot see? Why would I not buy this? Please someone answer me I need to be restrained
Its got a oscilloscope ffs
Yeh it smells like poop
Only 4 voice poliphony ?
The only downside I can think of (I've owned it for 3 years) is the keyboard isn't amazing, feels kinda soft but it's not bad. I just prefer the feel of my Keystep.
@@equipobrunet5538 Mother is monophonic. 4>1
The osiclators can't stay in tune.
a very descent synth for a descent price...delay is beautiful.....very musical.....A very very nice sounding synthetic...
This thing sounds and looks amazing!
So when you turn up the VCF Res ...a built in Delay automatically engages!?
Am I missing something here? :P Hahaha!
Is that what he was doing above the little Oscilloscope? ...oh, I see... he mentions it at 8:25 √
Anyway...
"...rugged chassis-mounted metal shaft pots with rubber-coated knobs."
Ample I/O. Knob per function. Onboard Delay... that sounds REALLY nice! Wow... This is super impressive & sounds so unique... he said it a few times, but I'll say it again, very Musical!
Thanks Sweetwater, well done!
I hope there's a Megalogue hiding somewhere at Korg HQ!
You got your wish. The Prologue
@@Lord_UND_Himself Too bad there's no onboard sequencer. :/
Very Cool Synth! Thanks to Korg! ♥
I could see how this would be a great addition to homegrown sci-fi video youtubers.......
This sounds like the got to analog synth for DEVO fans! Mark Mothersbaugh would be proud!
I don't need another synth but if I did I would ceertainly buy this..good work Korg
