Took my daughter to see Melanie Martinez tonight. I was a huge fan of My Bloody Valentine, Ride, etc in college back in the early nineties. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE!!!
Was shoegaze popular in the states at all? It’s my favorite genre and I’m glad it’s having a resurgence but I feel like I’m missing out on the prime of it. The early 90s seem to be the peak, (primarily because of mbv), and at some point in the 2000s there was a resurfacing (lsd and the search for god, for example). I wonder: was there ever some sort of mainstream understanding of the genre, or did it always feel fringe? Also, how did you get into it?
I love the soft vocals. It reminds me of Belinda Butcher of MBV. They definitely could have mixed you guys better though. Whispering into the mic is a completely viable way to sing, it's not just mumbling. I just think the mixing was bad on their part.
Great band, terrible mix, or terrible mic. Was there a sound check? I haven't seen any other live performances at this point but you can tell that they really punch her mix up on the studio recordings, I feel like there was just no sound check before going live. 😞
@@comradewolfman7605 yeah, but it is weirdly mastered here. I feel like she performed well too. Just it is damn hard to adjust to her style. Don't give up sounds like shit here compared to the album version
Damn, I thought it was just my phone but yeah, it's all a bit mushy and muddy even in headphones. Not even in cool a grungy way the, mixing is totally off.
@@irotinmyskinit seems strange for kexp, but I saw them live a few weeks ago and the sound guy was really having a hard time at the show. I think the vocals just struggle with the noise.

A nice shoegazy surprise
That’s so wholesome

I think you're incredible, tanukichan. I listen to "like you" everyday.
Tanukichan plz come to Japan
Saw them in Boise and salt lake at Kilby block party. Band rocks.
She was amazing in Portland! Gizmo is my album of the year for sure
Amazing Dream Line up Tanukichan + Winter!
i watched them open just a couple days ago for alvvays and alex g! a wonderful delightful shoegazy sound that i didn’t expect
saw Tanukichan live in Boise, Idaho in March! Such a great performance!!! I love her albums!
Are you drunk or tone deaf?

KEXP, Cheryl Waters, Tanukichan. WHAT THE FUCK ELSE DO YOU NEED?!

Thanks for visiting Montreal.
Her voice reminds me of a band called Medicine if anyone remembers them🖤
I love her vocals They are a perfect fit
I feel like I need to hear her more she is so soft singing
Shoegaze look it up
Love this band
i love this song
saw them live in chicago recently! great performance
Tanukichannnn hell yeahhh brotherrrrrr
Oh Yeah! thanks!!!
I don’t know why, but I like It!
They opened for Melanie and they were so good
Saw Tanukichan opening for The Drums a couple years ago, and this band sounds wayyyyyyy better than this performance. Sending love, girl you rock!
❤❤❤❤❤han❤❤❤❤❤
They're dope live
Gizmo was an awesome release, glad to see the hound out of the cage :)
i love their newest album but idk how i feel about this performance. hopefully she gets another chance and does a little better
たぬきちゃん!たぬきちゃん!
the entire mix is quite awful. On the 2nd song you can barely hear the bass, and it's a huge part of the song!
たぬきちゃん!
I am so confused
Man the vocal mix is low, I wouldn't be surprised if she couldn't hear herself that well. Big fan though!

Like the music, but, Jesus, those flat vocals...
Yeah, both in pitch, and delivery.
I dig it. I think her soft vocals provide a nice contrast to the guitar tones. To each their own.
It fits better on record but I still like it here. I think KEXP placed the vox a little too forward in the mix for me personally
It’s kinda her whole thing to be fair. It’s a lot easier to have it lost in the live mix as compared to the recording.

I apologize, but it sounds awful
I have to agree, this is pretty weird for KEXP but the mix is way off
Don't apologize - it's just a fact.
@@irotinmyskin the drum mix is the worst

I love tanukichan but this just sounds bad. Turning it off before it changes my opinion on their music.
Минуса крутые, вокал совсем мимо.
Yoko Ono back from the dead but STILL SOUNDS DEAD
vocals are wrong good music though its just mumbling
their music is really good, especially Dont Give Up. this performance is just badly mixed
This is mixed so bad. The guitar and bass are way too quiet. Also the host looks like hes on some kind of stimulants.
She could not find the right note on a piano if you showed it to her with Hubble telescope
Че это за хрень???!!!!!
