  • It's heritage. It's a legacy.
For generations, everyday Australians have made it their livelihood to deliver the necessities of our nation.
Carrots to clothing, livestock to limestone, timber to toilet paper, it's all been transported through rain, hail, and shine by the people at the heart of our industry.
Whether you are on the road, in the yard, behind the scenes or in the back office, the job is not easy.
Hard work and sacrifice are all part of it, and we know it's not just a job, but a passion that drives what you do.
The legacies you leave behind aren't just in the kilometres you've covered, the goods you've delivered, or the operations you've built.
They are in the connections you’ve made and the people you’ve inspired, which will continue your story. It’s something you’ve inherited from those that came before you, that paved the way for the next journey, in a story not yet finished.

Also I think Kenworth should put this on tv. To show people that there is more to trucking than just moving stuff around

My dad is a truck driver. I go with him in the truck a lot. I enjoy spending time in the truck and seeing weird and wonderful things happening around. I enjoy listening to his stories of trucking in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I know this video just have Kenworths in it. But all truck manufacturers in Australia have been here for generations and every one makes so many different memories in all sorts of trucks. It sucks how the industry has gone down hill and NHVR has gone way too far on a lot of drivers. I wish all the best out there. Make as many memories as you can and enjoy it.

Hi Kenworth dealers, I've always dreamed of buying a new T909 since primary school, however, due to the high truck prices ($500K) and low rates in the industry, I don't know whether I'll get one, please support us small operators to find an alternative way to buy your lovely trucks!!

September 1986, Dad got given the keys to a brand new W925SAR for I R Cootes, I was 10 and I fell in love, rode in them every school holidays I could, started my apprenticeship at the Sydney dealer in January 1992 and left in Dec 2004, having driven them moonlighting on weekends and the odd cheeky weekday changeover since I turned 19 for some of the overnight subby customers and have now just spent the last 19.5yrs driving them myself and taking my daughter on trips in heavy haulage spec K104s, 108’s & 200’s. Sadly the co have swung towards Volvos for reasons I cannot fathom, despite my best attempts to keep the K200 I already had for 7.5yrs, buy a new K220 or a T659, but my heart still bleeds red and chrome. ….. and always will. If you have to ask why, you’ll never understand.

I loved reading your comment, I personally do love Kenworth trucks as well, Please disregard any negative opinions about American dealers; some reasons why a lot of companies are choosing the European trucks rather than the Americans is due to the pricing difference. In reality, I got a quote for a Volvo FH 540 for $340k on road including the major specifications such as bullbar, icepack, stoneguard and more, however, when I was looking for a K220 I was quite unsatisfied with a price equating up to $485k with no ad on. Clearly, you're saving $145K in personal accounts. Another impact is that the industry's low rates nowadays make it impossible to buy such expensive rigs and there are a lot of competitors, for instance, Sittrak a new Chinese that could get the exact same job done as a Kenworth can, and you're saving the majors. Another impact is the Euro's have a better fuel economy averaging near 2.5-3km/L, whereas Kenworth's can hardly do up to 2km/L. The euros trucks also have maintenance plans that includes free servicing and parts as well as high technology with a lot of safety features. To be more effective and efficient in the industry, a key tip for Kenworth is to provide a competitive price range according to the market demand, allowing small operators like me to purchase one of your favourite trucks and make their dreams come true!
      Thanks

@@tremannsingh Yeah I agree they do look nice out on the road, but not in profit-wise, not sure how the big guys do it. But in short, my mate had 3 Kenworths a K200, K104 and a T610 sar, from his own words he said that "they're powerful trucks but at the same time a bit too pricey, but at the end of the day when you detect all your expenses you're going in a loss". Now he has a Volvo and 2 mercs, and he makes more profit from what he had from a Kenworth.

@@tremannsingh in the big spec, it was around $50k cheaper for the Euro, but I wanted a rear window which was $4k, so $46k for the equivalent as KW factory fit rear glass….. Volvo has crawler gears which is like having a Joey box, but I’ve never needed a gear lower than the KW had, even around the 160tonne mark in 19yrs, and Volvo has hub reduction axles which in theory are stronger, but in reality, still can fail and are horrendously expensive to repair…. As for fuel, the last trip I did in the KW with one of my colleagues on his Volvo was tonne for tonne identical… 113t Brisbane to Tamworth via Cunningham’s Gap/Goondi and empty back to Sydney where you still tare 41.5. Bowser to bowser over 2 days, the 615 Cummins/roadranger was 70litres better on fuel than the 700 Volvo, plus the engine brake performance of the Cummins with the engine fan on manual is insanely better. But that fuel equates to $18400/yr at 35litres a day, 5 days a week, 52weeks a year @ $2/ltr.
And I know how cheap and readily available parts are for a KW, let alone the simplicity to repair or bypass systems roadside to get home should something let go, and let’s see what these Euros are worth when they’re 7yrs old!!

@@AUSSIEGIZMO76 Yes I have heard the 700s have a higher fuel consumption, but if u compare it to a 540 or 600, you are living rich. At the end of the day man a $500K truck, makes the exact same as a $300k would, and u know better than me what industry rates are like, especially the East Coast ones hardly there is any margin/profit and especially if you have a mortgage or other finances. I also believe that the parts are half the price cheaper than euros, however, there are no maintenance packages with the Americans! With the Kenworth fuel consumption, we've tested a K200 from Adelaide to Perth 90t road train averaging 1.8km/L!

Where does one start? Without the entrepreneurial wisdom of the late great Ed Cameron and the imported S900 series, Kenworth Australia would not have been founded… the trucks we see today owe their heritage to those early S900’s
