  • Celebrating key production milestones is a Kenworth tradition, one that began in April 1974 when we handed over the keys to truck number 1,000. Kenworth’s achievement in manufacturing 60,000 trucks was a major milestone, not only for the company and its dealer group but for its suppliers, the vast majority of whom are local Australian Businesses.

    I worked there in the 80s and installed the engines for a year and a half. I helped build the best trucks in the world. Our standards were higher than the USA. We built trucks to last 70 years. Nothing was left out when we did our work. Right down to the wiring looms and hoses. We built these things with care and pride. When a Kenworth left our factory you can count on everything to be perfect. I never knew perfection till I worked at Kenworth. My favourite thing was building the trucks for the Bicentennial exhibition. They were great days and the people I worked with were exceptional too. That made us great. The people.

      Me in the 90s. First job I had in industry and best so far. Even a beancounter like me had to spend their first month on the line building trucks with the blokes. Everything KTAL taught me has stood me in good stead working last 20 years for some of the big names in Europe. Long live the Boys from Bayswater.

      Legends boys, Manufacturing in Australia is something that gives me a smile ear to ear. Knowing these manufacturers are reinvesting money into our economy through skilled workers is fantastic! I am not afraid to admit I cried when the 'Last Ford Australia Manufacturing video' on shutting down their plant in October of 2016 was released, it was asif I just lost a family member and I am not even a huge ford man myself.....

      it's so unfortunate that cats are becoming increasingly rarer each year, let alone 3408s :/

    I really miss the good ol days as a kid I love trucks but kenworth is and always will be my favourite truck but I understand the trucking game is dieing everyday and I just wish we could go back to the 404 days and the cat engines I’m not saying Cummins are a bad engine same as paccar but I wish cat would rejoin the engine company please kenworth don’t disappear

    I wonder how the coach building industry is going. Starting to see a lot of buses in Australia that are straight out of China. Shame, as there are still quite a few bus builders in Australia.

    Hehehe what a coincidence - I am the 610th like, and the T610 is a great truck.
    This is an Example as to why the Australian Government needs to drop off in regards to their unnecessary red tape & related to jargon when it comes to manufacturing or any other business sector.
    Australia is one of the most innovative countries globally and the true colours are blocked due to the red tape. Australia can really excel, and the only way Australia can do this is to kick out all useless politicians who employ Fantasy policies.

    • @MrSalty-eg4zb

      Because the trucks there are built for the OutBack everything on them is heavy duty and way overkill for here in the states also they cost a lot more...

      @andrewking9761 4 года назад +2

      @@MrSalty-eg4zb The roads in Australia are complete and utter rubbish compared to American roads which is the reason for different suspension set ups etc. For example some guys only get the left side wheel bearings done when it's due as the road shoulder is worn away and get's hammered way more than the other side

    • @malakisands4669
      @malakisands4669 3 года назад

      They also get the 18 litre Cummins engine that is built in Indiana and shipped to Australia. USA does not let the manufacturers to use that engine in non off road applications such as mining and yachts.
