- We took two of Australia’s best-selling trucks on a 5-day 3500 kilometre road trip from Melbourne to Brisbane and back again.
With identical loads on board we wanted to see which was the most liveable, which was the most fuel efficient, and of course, which one we just enjoyed driving the most! Who came out on top? The Volvo FH16? or the Kenworth K200? Check out the first video episode of our trip!

One of the things i noticed about these truck journalists is that they only get to see and test these truck right from new, when the truck is new ,9/10 times the overall perception is very satisfactory regardless of the make, it would be nice to have another review probably 5 years down the line so that we see how tough they really are. Greetings from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
After 5 years the Kenworth will still be like new and the Volvo will be on the scrap heap.
Yea, getting an actual fleet operators opinion
I didn't know Kenworth was still building a cabover.
I guess it's just for Australia.
It is very stylish in that design.
Since this video is like 4 years old, if it falls under the same laws as cars, you can bring one over and drive it in 21 years.
@@adamfrbs9259 I can't, I don't have a truck driver's license.
@@makingithappen9722 well save money for 21 years and buy acres of private land. No license needed. Ha
@@adamfrbs9259 I will b dead in less than 21 years.
@@makingithappen9722 ugh me to probably. Lots of cigs and deep fried food is cheaper than saving for retirement. Haha
where I work, we have 1980's Fords, 1980-2015 Internationals, 2010 Volvos, 2015-2017 Freightliners, and 2018-2019 Peterbuilts. The old Fords and Internationals are being kept and the the Volvo's are going to auction! We have 1 truck with a rust hole thru the frame! Any time I have to work on one I end up doing a lot of swearing!
Both have strength and weaknesses. Kenworth more suited for long haul trips across the outback though rough roads while still being somewhat compact, Volvo more for journeys from Melbourne to Sydney and such that can be done in a couple days.
This is like watching a classic mustang and Porsche 911 together. So wonderful yet so weird to watch them together...
I think you are right ! In my eyes i see the kenworth that is "old"
I like how they turned a 8 hour journey from Footscray to Marulan into a 15 second mini montage lol.
Man kenworth needs to release a right hand drive in america. Thats a fine looking truck
Wish I could get that K200 in the U.S. I have a Kenworth T680, absolutely love KW's esp with the Cummins engine. You can keep that auto and give me a 13 or 18 speed.
4 years later and they definentely brought back the XXL cab for volvo
In America our best most preferred trucks are the Kenworth W900L and Peterbilt 389
I enjoyed the video!!
Seeing this I really miss the Highway , and , have never driven a KW , Volvo yes , BDoubles , and singles and a triple !
Best truck model that Volvo came up with was the F16. My favourite!
The f16 is a fighter jet. Did you mean fh16?
Before the FH16 arrived, there was the F16. This was the F10/F12 series cab with the 16 litre engine fitted and was launched around 1988.
Both stunning trucks. Would not complain working with either - and have in my driving career ( albeit earlier models) but I gotta say the new volvos are bloody nice
Ps.. great KW rectified the hump cover over the engine
The quality of this production is super stupid good.
There’s anyone know which one is powerful on the uphill with the load
They're both beauties, but my personal preference based clearly on visual, goes with KW lines mostly, without rejecting at all the FH. I'm like 55-45%
I have driven both in older model but i loved the gear box of the old Volvo/White it was smooth.
Nothing looks tougher than a K series Kenworth, period!
Nah the k220 or a T909
both good. Volvo has most reliable pollution control system in America it seems.
Australia should make a truck. You guys kick ass.
@Lorne Johnson Are you referring to the Volvo or the KW? They are both sold very well in Australia.
US Volvo looks much better then those Euro Design Trucks, tiny Sleeper Cab, maybe Ok For Europe and their tiny Roads
SCANIA S730T LINE LONG 👍
If you appreciate a big rig despite of its flaws, horse power and the brand itself it doesn't matter. Both rigs are unique in their own way and wouldn't mind driving either or..
Amazing footage! I miss Australia.
The fact you both wanted the kw speaks volumes
3:40 did he really need to be almost jammed under the trailer himself to guide that guy onto the 5th wheel ?
KWs & Pete’s rocks America!
What's the longest distances you have driven this non-stop?
Wow that's wonderful and powerful trucks bring them in Namibia
Wheres the chrome visor mate
why are the changing trailers ?
Having spent many a day picking up bits that broke / fell off Volvo's & Scanias out on the Tanami Track - the Kenworth is the easy winner of this comparison for me. In fact - I wouldn't even call it a comparison.
How old is the Kenworth? 40 years old by the look of the exterior design?
Back when there was only one bridge over the Clarence River at Harwood.
*Volvo*
for the room as a driver, sitting or standing. Great vision, big windows and big mirrors. Quiet, smooth, refreshing and cool temperature to sit in. Great sound system and great storage.
*K.W*
For the Jacobs, the cab and the leather.
Meeean Azz nah kenworth are way more reliable and more comfortable in my opinion I’ve driven nearly every make and model trucks and kenworth is the best I’ve driven
Yeah but in a Kw you get a pissweak motor and an ugly interior and exterior. The FH16 is the most powerful and torquey truck you can buy.
The Dudeface huh that’s why I always pass them in my kenworth is it?
I like that k200 a lot.
K200 all the way In Australia we see tons of them
Hi, I'm interested in getting into truck driving as a long-term career having previously driven buses on a medium rigid licence on the mid-north coast of New South Wales and I plan to upgrade to a heavy combination licence to achieve this. Any tips on how I should go about kick-starting my career in this industry? Will my lack of experience as a truck driver be detrimental, or will my extensive bus driving experience help? I've seen advertisements for truck driving jobs but they all ask for people with experience driving trucks. How can you get that experience if you can't get a start? Also, how is trucking with regard to the availability of automatic transmissions? I ask, because I don't drive a manual transmission and haven't since I was about 16. Thanks in advance.
Bom dia muito legal amei australia era meu sonho trabalhar la em um rodotrains
Hello. I'm curious why there is not Peterbilt trucks in Aussie? Peterbilt trucks are also equally popular and seems neck to neck with Kenworth. Both are American too.
I've driven both these trucks its really close the fh700 is a weapon also but something get pulling me towards the KW
absolutely love KW's - Design !!!
i love both trucks they are awsome but i will go for the volvo...
love u KW
activate the subtitles I am Spain and I want to understand and enjoy more....
Kw looks like an updated k100 even still uses body rivets? Still ahead of the old tech cabovers left over here in the USA.
Tell 'em the price son!
They make Kenworth (K-Whopper) and Volvo cabovers, but only in foreign countries and it is not available in the USA. Wonder they make Studebaker heavy duty cabovers in foreign countries. Someday there will be Studebaker cabovers in Australia.
It could be interesting if told about fuel consumption
Depending on truck, ISX 15 is doing around 7MPG. European spec Volvo is doing 7,5MPG but australian spec migh be different since US spec have other engines than EU specs have (i think AU version will share engines with US spec).
why we never find European trucks with long cabs? even if they are intended for the Australian market.
That kenworth is gorgeous
They are both being great, but the problem is by shrinking KW's head in North America or the same for Volvo by extending its head out it is difficult to compare both.
Automatic transmissions even in Australia?
Random Stuff in Oregon; yeah, its fucked here for many , many reasons. virtually all old timers have been run out of industry. nonone left to drive a proper truck thats manual. a lot of immigrants, women and gay two uppers now and thats what drives the demand for autos. a real operator of all round ability and independance would consider not being able to get into a big american a nightmare. over.
Air actuated manuals, more efficient on fuel, gearboxes and clutches. Purely down to cost effectiveness and yes I can drive a crash box dipshit
@@truckeemick2486
truckeemick. When I ask myself if I’m a man, I don’t look at my penis, I ask myself if I can drive a manual box, then I remember that I’m European and virtually everybody can drive a manual over here. Next time I’m driving an automatic, and enjoying it, I’ll scold myself and remind myself not to act like a gender-bender, insecure American.
By the way, if you’re bothered that immigrants with poor English are taking your jobs, just accept that you must be shit at what you do.
Have a nice day.
KW all the way, classic look with modern amenities, wish these were available in the U.S.
Im pretty sure they are tho. Ive seen them a few Times in Vegas 2 years ago.
The only cab over I see on Kenworth website is a medium duty class 5 and 6 I don't see any heavy duty Class 7 and 8 trucks in a cabover available in the US
Volvo vs kenworth briga de gigantes 😎😯👍
It should be VNL vs T610
The Volvo comes with sweat pants and flip flops for the Driver!
Volvo please listen to Ozz trucks driver's volvo need more space within interior for drivers
Hi
Very nice video
I m truck driver job help
same in english...?
Would have love to have known what the difference in weight between the two tractors, no doubt the KW will be heavier due to the bigger cab and bed etc etc... weight should be added to the load not the truck, I’m not saying that KW’s & Pete’s are ugly trucks but have to say that the Aussies and the Yanks are stuck in a feckin time warp.
The Volvo bed pulls out to a king single. No mention of that.
That KW is perfection.
The Kenworth looks so damn good.
I know I'm biased but I'll go for the KW ! They last forever with a bit of TLC. I've owned mine for 18 years. The KW is built like an aircraft. The Volvo is built like a car.
what aircraft? An Boeing, or an Airbus?
DerAnus the KW got trashed by Volvo, so he meant Boeing...
- Why Boeings are named such?
- Because then they crash they make Sboeing....
detroit ghetto well for a start it's kenworth not kentworth and this is in Australia not America you Mong
IT is getting difficult to compete, can't tell the younger driver to adopt KW unless it get some screen up.
If its built like a car it must last long cuz volvo cars do
Thanks for the look-see. I always smile w/nostalgia when I see a cabover (very rare in the US), but wouldn't wanna live in one, anymore. Too impractical.
Scania R longline
didnt even use rhe right volvo
shouldve used the globetrotter xl for this
hr have a xl globtroter asshole whath the front roof sign better before you speak fh16 600 hp xl globtroter euro 5
wish they were sold in N.A.
They should have had the freightliner argosy with the two trucks and i would chose the freightliner.
the kw is really cool looking
i think the look of the kw is hreat wish they would go back to that style of truck
So the Volvo is a better truck and the KW is the better camper van
Why carnt Kenworth sell to the UK.
Kenworth allday handsdown
depends on if ur an owner driver or company driver I reckon
That button tuck vinyl interior and all those small round gauges is not for me. It's like stepping in to a house that haven't ben renovated since the 70´s. It´s kind of retro cool but not for me. I want the Volvo it's more modern.
yes yes yes 100%
This Volvo FH is almost identic of the Brazilian FH'S
Definitely Kenworth... Old boy Kenworth
4:07 smoke in the background is the Volvo doing a burnout in front of some chick's at the truck stop.
I want see inside kenworth k200
One looks like a model T the other looks state of the art, i think those southern boys who really really love ther sisters a little to much would like the KW lol
Motormaster vs aoe galvatron
It's a BP ad!
Yep 😕
KW all day every day...
The Volvo should be compared with Scania and The Kenworth should be compared with Mack. Kenworth and Mack are pretty much American built while the Volvo and Scania are European (Swedish) built.
Mack is Volvo now has been since 05
I agree, here in Europe, Volvo and Scania are known as the better trucks..
@@jorgenpinoy1724 yea cause u never drove any american trucks lol
Dont ever compare a mack to kenworth...the only thing a kenworth deserves to be compared with is peterbuilt
@@dandtfarms3365 is that an invitation 😀😀
Every truck can pull. But not every truck is comfy.
yo!!! the KW is nice, i like euro trucks, especially Scania, Mercedes Actros , MAN but volvo wise the U.S Volvo Vnl trucks but BUT...as far as for a camper euro trucks just don't compare .
That Kenworth looks like a gypsy's caravan ..
one of the most beautifull country...australia
It is, those were lucky convicts back in the day.
Wow never seen Kenworth trucks. Looks like a hundred year old steam ship. Gotta love the retro looks. 👍
Peterbild are the best
Не понятно но интересно.
Что не понятного, Вольво для работы Кеша для отдыха...
cool have a Good Time in australien
Kenworth...
Kenworth more comfortable. maybe fuel consumption is the difference
and automatic system. Driver's safety is more important
as a european i love eu trucks and eu style especially dutch. but i understand why in outback guys use old kennys and older trucks. but i dont know why anyone should pick kenny over scania or volvo or other european brand if they drive on highways and city routes
I wonder what it would cost to bring a k200 to the USA
I think just Bcz of driving norms it is not possible to drive cab over engine in USA
Kenworth has more space, that's about it.
Kenworth finally rectified the problem with that damed hump over the engine
Volvo is great !
...
Volvo are good just there not made for the Australian outback
FH 16 THE BEST
Türkçe alt yazı lütfen!!!
The new 2022 Volvo and Kenworth the Volvo is so much more room in the sleeper. So much more add-ons just so much more luxury automatic transmission standard
speaking of seasick with all the moving around and different camera angles and shots I puked my lunch up
