    * Name ONE Japanese company that WON'T WANT TO ADVERTISE AT DODGER STADIUM.. On Dodger RADIO, Dodger Billboards, Dodger TV broadcast. The Dodgers will be hiring a team of Japanese speaking market sales people and I honestly think, they will make "50 Million dollars a year". Japan is a wealthy country.. Ohtani is their GOLDEN BOY in the countries favorite sport. My goodness.. I lived near Tokyo (in Yokosuka) in 2006'-2008' and they love to advertise. Now those Japanese companies will have the ADDED benefit of Ohtani being paired with the DODGERS... I think the Dodgers GM and executives.. those who crunch numbers.. will make a NET PROFIT of 300 MILLION in the next 10 years.

Ohtani's first MLB pick was Dodgers when he just graduated from high school, he wanted to be the first Japanese that go straight to MLB after high school, but was convinced to stay in Japan to better start his 2 ways player. Now he's in his dream team, and his dream team wants him and pay respect to him, win win for both!
No to mention he's offered to defer his pay so Dodgers have more cashflow to sign other strong players, what he did was just another big win on top of this.

When evaluating Ohtani, the batter's WAR and pitcher's WAR are simply combined (which is why Ohtani failed to win MVP in 2022), but I think any weighted sum should be applied when he plays a full-time batter/pitcher like in the 2022 season. WAR itself is the contribution to victory compared to replacement players, but Ohtani makes room for another player on the team roster, which is a much bigger contribution than a simple replacement in the current WAR. Ohtani's two-way style was unimaginable when WAR was developed. Yes, I am saying that Ohtani should have won MVP in 2022 despite Aaron Judge's 62 homeruns.

Agree with Harold 💯 that the Ohtani vs Trout match up to win the WBC will cement Ohtani as the most historic sports figure in 🇯🇵 … it was the best sports moment for so many -- Ohtani at $700M is not absurd - he’s finally getting a portion of the marketing dollars he generates for his team. So glad he’s no longer with the Angels..it was painful to watch at times… can’t wait for 2024!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉

I keep telling people to slow down thinking they are automatically gonna run things and go straight to a world series. Maybe they will. I have seen the Yankees spend so much money to stack their batting lineup and they still get sent home in the Playoffs to a team with less talent or less expensive when it comes to salary lol. If the Dodgers don't make the world series at least 2 times in these 10 years, this 700mil contract would be worthless imo@@tamehamehaprints3604

It was Dodgers that wanted to scout Shohei Ohtani when he was still at Hanamaki Higashi High School. Since then Dodgers continued sending its love calls, even when he announced his challenge to MLB, but there was no DH at that time. Shohei also wanted to join Dodgers since his high school days because of Dodgers' strong love call and he noted Dodgers name on his baseball goal sheet. This deal is, in a sense, the ultimate fruit of both loves and respects for each other. For both, it is the best marriage.

For salary comparison I would've liked to see a grouping of pitchers along side some hitters, since Shohei is basically 1 of each.

As a Dodgers fan at first I was worried about the contract for multiple reasons.
    1. 700 million for one player?
    2. In 10 years 68 million a year must be paid to a player no longer on the team?
But now that I have learned how the league deferral system works I think the Dodgers got a 100 million dollar discount. Turns out the Dodgers are registering his deferrals with the league so that he only cost 46 million a year against the luxury tax. They aren’t allowed to just wait 10 years to start paying him. They must give 46 million to the league at the end of each season. And the league puts the 46 million in a league approved savings fund at 4.5% interest. And in 10 years they pull the 46 million out plus the 22 million in interest and give the 68 million to Ohtani. So basically the Dodgers just give 46 million a year rather than 70 million a year to Ohtani (had they not done deferrals) Which means the Dodgers will pay 10 years 460 million for him NOT 10 years 700 million. That is a very good deal.

To be honest, $700 million payable over the next 30 years in annual (or monthly) installment should be worth no more than $350 million on a present value basis, depending on the discount rate. He receives only 3% down payment in the first year. It was actually an extraordinarily advantageous contract for the Dodgers thanks to Ohtani's magnanimity. He just wanted to play in a team with serious prospect of winning the championship. This arrangement is simply meant to avoid collapsing the current MLB players market by the publicity of "$700 million the biggest pay in MLB history", while minimising the Dodgers' financial burden so that the team can afford the fund to keep paying good salary to the existing team members (and to attract good players from the outside).

I saw this on Instagram, so you know it's true. The value of Ohtani's contract in today's money is $460 million. So, in a sense, everyone who said they couldn't see him signing for more than that were correct. Of course, it's stlll the biggest contract in North American sports history.
EDITED: 460 million not 508 million.

3 words. Taxes taxes taxes. If he went with what was expected $70.5 million gross a year, his taxes in the state of California he will net at 34.8 million a year. Yes I know. So he plays at 2mil plus endorsements then after the term he retires he takes his lumpsum back to Japan or claims residency in Florida where there is no state income taxes. He's rich he's worth a billion and has smart people like myself working for him.
