Congratulations! I love the way you explain and phrase your words, together with the smooth minimal movements always make your videos so peacefully soothing. The Q&A is very interesting and would love to see another one :)
Congratulations, Florian! Just dropping a quick comment to let you know that I absolutely loved this video. Please do more Q&A's in the future. Thank you for your regular studio vlogs. I enjoy your company as I design architecture or learn more about ceramics or leathercraft.
Thank you for an excellent Q & A, Florian! Please keep them coming 😀. It’s exciting to grow in this discipline, and we all benefit from sharing our talents with one another.
Hi Florian. I am new to making pots and am happy to have found you. Is a true pleasure to watch you work and listen to you explain your process. Thank you. I hope someday to drink my tea or coffee from one of your pieces.
This was amazing, thank you for being so open about your life! Please do more!! You are a wonderful artist and a lovely human and I'm a proud follower and supporter of yours :)
The ability we have as creative beings is what astounds me each and every time I have the privilege of witnessing the process, whether it be someone compiling the materials on hand be it for painting, weaving and of course clay work. To see something that was once formless to a completed piece, is truly an inspired process, which we all have the ability to do. To think that on this planet our species can do such miraculous things with our hands is extraordinarily part of the human condition; the deep seeded want to simply make. The humblest of many of these endeavors are the items that are utilitarian. Thank you for posting on this platform.
I couldn’t agree more with you about the Facebook comment. Your growth on RUclips is very impressive. My own little channel is more than a full time job, so kudos to you for the quality of your work - both ceramics and social media - good luck for the future, Kate xx
Thanks for the great video! Lots of great answers and congrats on 100k(and more already!). Im always blown away by the amount of effort you put into this social media thing, and STILL have time to make all those beautiful pots. Keep it up man. You're awesome
Great video! In regard to the question about apprenticeship, i think you already have so many people, online, learning a lot of stuff from you while also getting inspired and motivated. We thank you for that! X)
I agree! I find there have been lots of stages to my growth as a potter, and having found your videos / postings feels like my work has taken a bright new turn. Very indebted.
You are such an inspiration. I work nights as a pharmacist and watch your RUclips videos to pass the time. I really just want to be a maker, craftsman, artist, but then my student loan payment comes due. 😣
☺️ now that would be surreal, although I am now 20k over the 100k mark already and that happened in less than a week.. thanks for taking the time to watch Steffie, it really means such a lot.
It would be so cool if you filmed a video going through your personal pottery collection that you spoke of at the end of the video. Where you got the piece, what you use it for, why you like it etc…I’d be interested to see what you look for as a consumer vs how you are as an artist.
Beautiful as always :D Maybe you could do some raffle for those not that fast, ocuppied at work, enjoying their families, the ones that don't work on the computer or whatever winning the possibility of buying in the next restock. Just an idea. Thanks for sharing that much of you.
I feel like the interest in the apprenticeship has more to do with his social media reach than his pottery. People that keep asking for apprenticeship (in my opinion) don't have the passion for it, passion and true love for a craft will make you learn on your own. You will meet people later on that will help you grow and improve your skills, but people that only go around asking for someone to teach them a skill don't have what it takes (again, in my opinion).
I find it amazing that you have seen people they have skill enough to blow you away you're probably the most skill pottered than I've ever seen the only person in your category as far as I'm concerned is Hsin-Chuen Lin. While you have very different artistic processes you are very empire with each other
Congratulations on the first of many 100k's. You are an awesome potter and so enjoyable to watch. I have learned so much. Would you tell me where you got your fulcrum for establishing the same heights of pieces. Thank you so much
I'm watching Thursday June 20, 2024 and you're at 1.57 Million subscribers! That's wild, huh? But you deserve all the success you want. You work long & hard😁
Soon, hopefully! I may film some shorter 4K videos of a few of the processes, but there’s no way I can do a 30 minute 4K film without some serious upgrades to my gear.
@@floriangadsby I have a new m1 MacbookPro and have used Blackmagic 4k cameras, Canon 4k cameras, and now I use a Sony A6600. The computer and Premiere handle the files like a champ. The real chokepoint, as you mentioned, is STORAGE. A 4k video file is crazy. I was watching your videos on my 4k tv and didn't even check to see what the quality was. Because I didn't need to. They just looked good. (Most of the was your use of depth of field). AND I'm a video professional. (I'm messaging you from my private YT account - not the one associated with my channel) You use a shallow depth of field, understand exposure, have an artistic approach to framing and composition, and most importantly, INTERESTING CONTENT AND SOMETHING TO SHARE. RUclips does not consider video resolution when suggesting content. You've gotten 120k without a 4k camera. You're self-taught and a one-man show. SO Impressive. "Content is King. Marketing is Queen, and she runs the household." You've nailed both without 4k! On my channel, I haphazardly shot a video with my phone instead of my 4k camera. I almost didn't do it because I didn't think it was interesting. Turns out, it answered a problem people were having and the algorithm picked it up. It's a few months old and has over 60k views. I have a small personal channel and just started in February. All that to reiterate, you don't need a 4k camera and an expensive NAS setup to be successful on YT. You just need to make consistent content that people are looking for. You've nailed it. ALSO, for what it's worth, I just found your channel three days ago, WHEN RUclips RECOMMENDED A VIDEO OF YOURS. The algorithm is key! I've never looked for ceramic videos. Not sure why they showed it to me, but I love your stuff. The real question is, how do you start and stop each recording with messy hands?
Only 100,000!? I wouldve thought youd be at millions! Your videos and work are just phenomenal!!! Anyways, CONGRATS on 100,000!!!!!!!!🥳🎊🎉 i can only wish that my RUclips would be as amazing as yours (in my own way lol)

Thank you for all the tips in this video, they’re so helpful. I recently bought a soft box light and bulb but the colour is not nice. It would be great to know what kind of light you use, I couldn’t catch it in the video. Thanks for your time!
I would love a milk Jug. But a cylinder the like your tea pot with a spout and a stick handle not a curved handle. Ceramic keeps milk cold. I don’t like milk cartons in my fridge.
Hey Florian! Thanks so much for all the content you’ve created. I had a question about your hand position when you’re pulling with your knuckle - where does your thumb go/what part of the knuckle are you using? I’ve looked through many of your videos and the camera angle seems to always hide this. Thanks again! ps. Have you thought about putting up a patreon or something similar? I’d be more than happy to send a couple dollars over - the videos you’ve put out have had provided me much more value to me than that.
Hi Florian, I love your work! If you do another one of these videos or come across my comment in the meantime, would you be willing to share who you look up to in the pottery world? Cheers!
Hey I wonder if you could in real time feed(somehow) the footage input from the Cannon to a computer then you’re recording? That way you could choose when - if there’s something interesting- you record???
Hi! Thanks again for making these videos. I was wondering how do shoot & edit and sound? Do u 1st write the content, record your narrative and then shoot visuals to match it? Or do u record video, edit it and then Add your narrative as per the video?
Thanks for watching! It goes like this, first, I record all the footage and then edit it together into a narrative. Then I just record audio overtop, narrating what I see and adding useful information.
@@floriangadsby thanks alot! I am from India & explored pottery recently, fell in love with it. Since you were named after one of the guys from Kraftwerk, I have to ask what, what genres of music to tend to listen to the most over the last few years?
Well... there's an awful lot I could put down. I listen to so much music, be it Frank Zappa, Bones, Men I Trust, Pavarotti, Solange, Talking Heads, Paddy McAloon, Brain Eno, Gigi Masin, Snarky Puppy, Soft Hair, King Crimson, John Martyn, Tool, David Bowie, Wu Tang Clan, Linkwood and Greg Foat and so on and so forth. That only really scrapes the surface of what my recent plays are, a full list would be very, very long.
Thank you for this video. It´s very informativ for a potters apprentic like me. I spend a lot of time thinking about how I will make it as a potter. I love to hear more advice and thoughts from you. Best regards Angelika #kvanneform #abpottery_journey
