Both of these laptops feature a RTX 4090 175W paired with i9-13980HX a 24-core 32 thread CPU. I tested display quality, Cinebench R23, Timespy, Crystal Diskmark, Geekbench 6, and tested lots of game benchmarks between these two beasts! I ended up going with the Scar 18 myself after almost 6 months comparing these two product lines (I was originally shopping for a 30 series laptop in the summer before I decided to wait ~4 months for the 40 series). For me, the display of the GT77 and the memory configurations are not designed for gamers, but rather content creators. Many reviews note that the display of the MSI has a 10+ millisecond response time.... that is absolutely ABYSMAL for most gaming. The display alone kills the GT77, where almost everything else about it is perfect, imo.

    • @Alex-df4lt
      @Alex-df4lt Год назад

      I'm conflicted between getting a GT77 or Scar 18. The display on GT77 is terrible for gaming, but in my case I care more about 128GB supported memory capacity. It will probably never be used for gaming so the display on GT77 could be ok. I consider Scar 18 a better laptop between these two for gaming. New laptops with AMD CPU won't support this much memory.

    i think the msi laptop add its own overclocking when its set to turbo.i assume if both have the same overclock they will have same performance.few of the games run better on Scar cuz its allowing more wattage to cpu .you can do the same on msi by tweaking intel extreme utility.

      MSI did add factory overclock, but you can OC both the Scar 18 and GT77 by about 200+ to the core clock and 1200+ to the memory clock and boost both performance significantly. The Scar 18 with OC can't catch up to the GT77 though, at least not with stock V-Bios and bios.

Obviously its less performance because it's a way higher resolution but a 4090 can handle 4k very well. @GizmoSlipTech And also try out minecraft java edition as it's more tricky on low-end computers while using shaders. I can recommend some path tracing and normal shaders. I think these beasts of the laptops are very powerful, and it will be able to run smoothly on minecraft java edition. 👍

    Based on the price to performance ratio, the Scar 18 is the clear winner. Too bad they sell out INSTANTLY from every website as soon as they're available, and NO ONE, not even Asus themselves, will let us Pre-Order/Backorder one to get it when it's back in stock. It's highly frustrating to me.

      Good luck replacing mosfets after 1-2 years on that Scar. Those high temperatures are bad on long term, common issue with asus laptops. MSI stays cooler with 10-15 degrees diff plus the cpu stays over 5ghz with such a low temps. For e-sports go for Asus but for everything get the MSI. Better display, more efficient, cooler, better keyboard and good build quality. I had only MSI laptops and used them for 12-15 hours a day for years and not a single issue. My gp76 has 1.5 years of usage home and work.This laptop never stops and is very very cool on touch with temps lower than 80 in full load.

    Get yourself the SCAR 16 instead and you get more portability, same specs except a higher quality mini LED display and 1.3lbs lighter for another $200 off the scar 18 price. $1000 cheaper than the GT77 for identical specs, but due to the smaller form factor, would likely suffer a little more in FPS due to the reduced cooling surface of the chassis.

    The Scar is pulling too much power under those runs. More than 250w total combined. I suspect they will release an update that will fix it. The CPU is drawing too much and stopping dynamic boost. The MSI is refined to boost more. I locked my CPU at 55w PL1 and 120w PL2 and saw the Time Spy score jump up to 19,000. This generation needs that GPU boost more than it needs the CPU power.

    The MSI GT77 consistently has higher GPU VRAM usage. This leads me to believe he is running a higher resolution on the GT77 Titan. More VRAM equals more strain and demand to run it with high frames. If you look at all games the GT77 is using about 1.5-2GB more VRAM. It is really strange. Dying light 2, the GT77 uses 9GB of GDDR6, while the Scar 18 only uses 7.4GB of GDDR6. It looks like this could be driver settings /firmware that is altering this heavy GPU memory usage. But 99% of the time higher VRAM usage is due to higher graphical fidelity. I can only assume a properly optimized MSI GT77 will dominate that Scar 18.

Many times we just look at the graphics of the other channels saying: Look, Scar 18 is much better in FPS and that's it. These 4080/90 series laptops are truly amazing and look incredible in terms of chassis. The 4k144hz MiniLED display on the Titan is what true certified HDR1000 would look the brightest and best on, we're not there yet with OLED HDR brightness).
    I still don't see the value in laptop gaming though especially if you have a great desktop at home and Steam deck for portability. It's always nice to have a laptop on the go depending on your workflow but I don't see why you'd game on such a small display unless you're using a TB4 dock at home for peripherals.

Great battery life, great multicore performance, very cool and efficient internals while keeping the slim size, low noise levels and good gaming performance.
