I think we should swap out ‘religious horror’ with ‘CHRISTIAN religious horror’. I’d be totally up for more horror movies based on other religions. It’s the Christian/Catholicism that’s overdone and stale.
YES. Anybody else watch the Norwegian show "Ragnarok"? More stuff like that, please. I mean, I know it's not horror, but... And, of course, "The Ritual". There's also "The Pyramid", which involved Egyptian mythology, but it sucked.
I agree on seeing a horror movie during the daytime..it's quiet, and I don't have to leave the theatre at night and feel unsafe. I can be fully immersed and really enjoy the movie. I also love going alone!
I actually really love the trend of film creators mimicking styles from other decades of horror, usually 70s-80s. mainly because those are also my favorite decades of horror but it also allows for stories about marginalized people who wouldn’t otherwise have been centered on in that decade but in that style. late night with the devil and knife + heart come to mind. but also when directors like Jordan Peele actively and consciously reference older work within theirs. it’s a very cozy kind of nostalgia
Worked in a movie theatre. The people who came in the middle of weekdays were the best kinds and typically had the better experience. There were always people who complained about disruptions, taken seats for crowded showings, long snack lines, and also some entitled people who threatened us or demanded refunds and compensation for the silliest things sometimes for the weekends and premieres. I dealt with a lot more rude people for G, PG, and PG-13 films than I did rated R movies. So yeah, absolutely go in the middle of a week day if you can. Also, side note, there was once a lady who threatened to call the police one night because she couldn't get a refund after watching a 3D film because 'the whole movie was blurry'. She had the 3D glasses, she just chose not to wear them. There were also a lot of people who would get upset about curfews or ratings and try to bribe my coworkers to just let them or their kids into a film, or underage teens who tried to get strangers to buy their tickets for them, only for them to get upset when we wouldn't let that stranger buy them. Whereas there were people who would get way too intimate during kids movies in the theatre and would have to get kicked out. Whatever ettiquette there was before was hardly present when I worked.
The kid thing is stupid their shouldn't be a age limit for theaters should be the parents responsibility also I hate disruptions or people talking I don't complain cuz I'm watching a movie but everything else I understand
@@Chubbytoad12My theater has an age restriction later in the evening because parents treat the theater like it's a daycare, and would just dump their kids there for hours.
Forget Religious and Zombies, we need some actually scary Werewolves. They always end up as action films and include vampires. Don’t include the vampires and change up the lore a little bit. About the cash grabs, that’s a fact. It’s why the smaller studios and the indie films are essential to keeping the horror film genre alive. Not unpopular takes, just honesty. 👍🏾💯
As the biggest zombie lover I was so heartbroken when you compared religious horror to zombie movies as being overdone but then I got so excited when you said to bring them back lol.
I completely agree with watching found footage on a tablet with headphones! I also think that any jumpscare heavy movie is way more enjoyable that way too.
I feel like I HAVE to go to opening weekends because if I don't, it'll disappear from theatres in the blink of an eye!! I can't believe the short turn around of a single month of showings now. We live at least 30 minutes away from our closest theatre and with other commitments and busy jobs, weeknight showings just aren't possible anymore. That leaves us maybe four weekends to see a movie and if life gets in the way, you just totally miss it.
I also agree with a matinee in the middle of the week day. No one in my family enjoys horror movies, but myself. Taking myself on solo dates in an empty theater is the best experience. My ritual now is to watch the movie alone, experience it fully, then listen to reviews like yours and Emma's on the drive home. Chef's kiss, literally.
Absolutely agree with the cinemas being packed. I wish cinemas would be as strict as theatres when it comes to not being able to bring food from outside, no phones, no talking in between and having an employee checking every once in a while
@@kphoria1009 that some people bring a whole lunch or snacks that are super loud. I’m ok with bringing your own food but I think it should be controlled
@@gracetanner4132 with this I agree, I do the same but what I meant with my comment is that some people really bring a whole menu ( burgers, French fries, soups, etc ) and the smell is unbearable
I agree with you on blumhouse. They feel like lifeless heartless films (sometimes campy accidentally on purpose) that are sholved out every other month. Reminds me of a studio like full moon features but full moon actually has some heart.
How about zombie nuns? 😁. When Saw came out I HAD to see it in theatres, but my sister needed me to watch my nephew who was only a few months old...SO I took him with me. I was the only on in the theatre because it was a matinee. It was so creepy being in that empty theatre with the baby. A staff member actually came in and asked if I wanted them to turn the volume down since I was the only one there, lol. BTW my nephew slept through the entire movie. Weird horror opinion: my sons have a VR headset, Found Footage and also the movie SIlent House (not the remake!) in VR is TERRIFYING!!
feeling incredibly vindicated about also being the type of person who likes to go see horror movies during the most dead times of day. my most ideal experience is in a completely empty theater.
Very relatable opinions. I would have gladly listened to your rant on the rush to move films to streaming. Such a short-sighted strategy. There are many movies that would benefit from having more time to build an audience in theaters, and definitely more than a few horror films meet that description.
My weird opinion is that horror has prioritized being an endurance test with the filmmakers trying to create and sustain anxiety in the viewer for as long as possible. And I'll almost always enjoy a "bad" horror movie that's just having fun with the genre over a "serious" horror film that is manipulating my anxiety for 90 minutes. By way of example, this weekend I had much more fun watching Friday the 13th V: A New Beginning (which I rated at 2 stars) than I had watching many horror films I'd rate at 4 stars. Why? Because it had fun with being a franchise slasher and recognized it didn't need to string the audience along scene-by-scene. Like, it's not "good" by normal horror criteria, but I had a blast watching it. Which I think plays a bit into why I also like found footage. It's not super serious, even when the story itself is played fairly straight.
I remember watching Black Christmas on my friend's iPod nano in high school with one earbud in, and it was pretty memorable, so I can see why you suggest watching found footage movies on the small screen!
Oh God, I always feel like an old grumpy lady when I talk about audience behaviour at the cinema, but for real... My latest experience was so bad that I ended up stuck between two idiots who spent their time texting, and three absolute obnoxious *** who, for some reasons, decided that vaping at the theater was appropriate
It doesn't matter how old or young anyone is, a person's age shouldn't be a guideline for proper etiquette. The truth is there's a good portion of young people that don't understand that, or they do, but they just don't care.
My weird preference is that I absolutely LOVE how films are almost immediately on streaming services these days. I’m autistic and have severe crowd anxiety - so I hate going to the movies (even though I love the big screen.) As a huge movie buff I was always months behind on all the newest movies - but now I am able to watch them much faster at home and keep up 🙂
i love watching horror/thrillers mid-day, specifically at home on a warm sunny day! it reminds me of being a kid being immersed in a movie & when my mom & i would go to the video rental stores a lot
I totally agree with you on your last point (quick turnaround to VOD/streaming) which is why I haven't been to the theaters since Don't Breathe 2 (& also a lot of the theaters in NYC have a bed bug issue), but I'm a bit on the opposite end when it comes to found footage movies. It's probably my least favorite subgenre because I feel like a lot of them rely so much on jump scares and they shove all the exciting stuff in the last 5 minutes of the film.
Love these kinds of videos!! And funny you should say that about going to the cinema during the day because of the kind of audience PG 13 Horror can attract - I went to see Trap on release day here in the UK and the cinema staff actually stopped the film halfway through because a group were causing so much disruption to everyone in the theatre that they had to throw them out. Never had that happen before and also hate to dunk on a particular community but I totally get you and middle of the day screenings sound kind of blissful 😂
I totally agree with how films just don't stay in cinemas for too long anymore to make way for the next big thing or get them out onto streaming or dvd faster - I've missed out on SO many movies I wanted to see on the big screen because life is busy and by the time I'm free the movie is gone. (also I'm high key devastated that for some reason my area in the UK is only getting ONE SHOWING of I Saw The TV Glow. Just one showing at only one branch of cinemas.)
Aside from watching a found footage movie on an iPhone, I don't see anything "weird" about any of these. Especially not what you said about the time of which you think is best to go see a movie. Watching horror movies in a packed theater is the WORST. The earliest showing on a weekday is the best time to go because at most you'll have maybe 2 or 3 other quiet people in a screening, sometimes I've even been by myself when I've done it and it's been great. I can't stand the laughing, talking or especially that one person in the audience who feels the need to scream the loudest when something scary happens, or the person who thinks they're the funniest person in the room and shouts things out at the screen. It completely ruins the experience.
One of my favourite religious horror is American Horor Story Asylum, it’s so good. And I agree with you I love zombie stuff, they’re so entertaining and fun to watch. I hope they keep bringing them back. Last of us is a masterpiece
I’m with you on going to see horror in the afternoon. I’m a teacher and when I’m on breaks, one of my favourite things to do is impulsively go to a matinee for whatever horror movie is out. There was lots to choose from this summer!
Found footage is also my favorite genre!! I’ve never considered watching it on a small screen lmao but now I’m sooo curious, will be trying tonight! Also yes to the future found footage from you of course.
Loved this episode. Many interesting points. First of all, there are some great indie horror authors. Give them a chance, there's lots of good ideas out there. I am told by many who are traditionally published, that those publishers ignore them and only give a few authors effort (Koontz, King, Clive Barker, etc..) Same with some of these big movie houses, rely on name and produce poor quality movies. I am sucker for the supernatural haunting, the old house, abandoned asylum, I tend to overrate those sometimes:) Found footage needs to be good or I'm out usually. Good episode.
Love this, especially the distaste for crowded movie theaters. Ugh, I'm so on edge the whole time I'm in a packed theater, it completely sucks the fun out of the experience. Question: I scanned back through a bunch of your videos but didn't come across this, so I wanted to ask: Do you watch a lot of anthology horror? Is it something you're a fan of, or not so much? Over the years it's become my favorite... well, "sub-genre" isn't quite the right word, because it can encompass a bunch of sub-genres, but I'm finding the short form factor really works for me. Like, I feel like I've been chasing the feeling I got from watching Southbound.
Wow I never thought of found footage that way, and I think you're totally right! I watched Blair Witch for the first time as a teen (within a year or two it released) with my dad, in a tent, on a laptop. It was so incredibly effective that no other found footage experience has compared.
You're not wrong about horror movies being cash grabs. I was talking to a movie producer who was working on a horror movie and he mentioned that they're the cheapest and easiest to make
OMG YES! I love going to the cinemas on my own in the middle of the day when I can! So many people see it as a super weird thing, but it is always the best experience EVER! I can only recommend!
I actually have a few "found footage" concepts in mind you might be interested in. One idea I had was about an urban Explorer going to explore an abandoned place she recalls going to from her childhood and an accident or some chase ensues to where she ends up underground of the abandoned place into another realm where it seems to be some kind of hyper realistic cartoon dimension(think of the world of Trevor Henderson) Another idea I had was a guy being an insomniac who follows different twitch streamers who clicks a random person who may be in mortal danger and is using RUclips stream to keep in contact with the outside world since emergency services don't seem to be working and he seems to be the only person that knows she exists and is in danger and therefore must find a way to help her
I think the only time a packed movie theater made a difference (for the better) with my experience of watching a movie was when the original Quiet Place came out. There was absolutely no sound to be heard from the movie goers. No munching on popcorn or opening candy. It was honestly an experience I wish I could relive.
I feel you with the movie theatre opinion - I also love going to see movies by myself in the middle of the day. Can’t stand all of the disruption on a Friday or Saturday night 😂
I agree with you 100% 😭zombie movies should make a comeback cause I find them to be so entertaining. I personally find it to be the scariest type of movie besides found footage. (P.s they should bring back more found footage.
I totally agree with you on the religious horror movie spam-bring back the zombie movies! I’m seriously craving another film like *Train to Busan*. 🧟♂🍿
Here's my weird statement..... I love horror films prob the most out of film genres, but there's nothing out there that actually scares me. You made a insta story poll just yesterday asking which movie actually scared you and I only put down paranormal activity because parts of it give me the slight creeps being I was brought up catholic and I could not see the demon. But did it scare me? Nope. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who doesn't scare?
One thing that irritates me is that my theatre will hold onto kids movies for months and then the indie films get rushed out. Looking at despicable me and inside out.
I always highly reccommend Cargo as an amazing zombie movie. Technically it isn't really about the zombies and it's not even really a scary film but my god is it a great watch. Incredibly touching story.
I know it's probably not a big deal to point out, but your favorite type of horror being found footage got an immediate subscribe from me. I mean you've gotta have more incredible opinions about other stuff since I agree with you 1000% there. Also Cube. Great movie, somehow convinced my film teacher in high school to let me do an essay on it.
Ugh yes to going to the movies alone in the middle of the day! I have agoraphobia and anxiety and managed to slowly be able to do that about 2 years ago, it literally changed my life. I go so often now and it's like a safe space. Less people, no talking and full immersion ahhhhh🖤💀 btw I've been watching you since you started and I adore you and your videos!🤘
I couldnt agree more on the theater one. I saw Abigail on a Wednesday afternoon and it was by far the best theater experience Ive had. Also doubtful youll see this question but what would be some horror BOOK opinions you have? Love seeing your vids on movies but your book vids interest me soooo much!
I have a similar opinion on supporting independent movies but from a music standpoint. I feel like we’ve started getting so many breakout music artists that have left their label and gone independent and started making the best music of their entire career. I think there’s so much creative liberty that gets taken away when a project is taken on by a bigger entity (whether it’s movies, music, etc) so I’ve started making a better effort towards supporting independent artists in all facets. It’s hard to fund and support projects with limited resources! I think production companies and music labels definitely take advantage of this and hinder the potential for creativity in the process. I think passion and creativity are things that always shine through and can’t be bought by any amount of monetary funding
couldn't agree more with going in the middle of the day. i have the best horror theater viewing experiences when i go alone at like 2pm, when it's just you and two elderly people there.
Dear Sarah, I love your videos and have been watching for a long time. I even made a list on letterboxd devoted to your channel and your favourites of each year, decade and all time. As a found footage fan, you should def watch the Horror in the High Desert trilogy if you havent already and make a video about it, I would love to hear your opinions on it, cause I watch a lot of horror since forever and these films have been one of the scariest ive seen in the last few months Oh, by the way, thank you for introducing me to Gonjian, - i got the recommendations in your channel
Every horror movie I have seen in theaters for the past 3 years I saw at a 10-11 AM Friday showing and enjoyed the hell out of it. The one exception was Terrifier 2 which I saw Halloween night in a packed theater and it was actually the perfect viewing experience for that particular film. Midday weekday movies are where it’s at. I think my weird horror opinion is that horror is almost useless as a genre because it encompasses too many things. The infighting over what is or isn’t a “horror” movie is infuriating and gatekeep-y. It’s weird though because I do love “horror” movies.
I’m new and I can’t stop watching so could u do a video on Horror movies with a group of friends and Movies like Unfriended (Video call Horror movies) I’ve seen pretty much EVERY horror movie I could find and I can’t find anything anymore😂😭 Edit: And Ouija movies it’s so hard to find any after watching so many horror movies Also Great video :)
Last time I watched the Blair Witch Project (last August) it was in a tent by myself in northern Manitoba Canada while there were forest fires and the air was thick with smoke. It was a different experience. Lol
I know this might be a weird perspective but the best movie experience I ever had was seeing Paranormal Activity 3 in a packed theater when I lived in Philly. Everyone in the audience was cracking jokes, screaming together, laughing together; the energy was amazing. It was like being at a huge sleepover. I normally don’t like disruptions but there was a camaraderie that night that made it really fun and special.
My best movie viewing experience was when I was 14. I went to see The Gates Of Hell(City Of The Living Dead) at 9:00pm on it's last screening night. Well they oversold, the room was full, and a lot of other people were left out including me. Well after like 20 minutes they tell the horror fans if they're willing to stay they will open a MIDNIGHT SCREENING! Everyone said yes. Well 12:00am arrived and the room was packed!🤗 This was the last movie to scare me. Unpopular opinion? I'm not in love with found footage movies except Cannibal Holocaust of course. But all the modern ones I don't like but I still buy them in physical media. Good discussion and cool video Sarah!👉🏼🙂👈
As a 30 year old with no child...I too will NOT tolerate a packed theater😂 I go to the movies often, but only on weekday afternoons when my work schedule allows. Last week I saw Trap at 2pm on a Tuesday expecting a mostly empty theater and it ended up over half full. Even that was too annoying for me.
Oh you mentioned black and white and made me think of "the eyes of my mother", it's in black and white and I really enjoyed it ✨ it's interesting, if you haven't seen it, it's nice
Yeah, totally with you on packed theaters. Saw Alien Romulus a couple of days ago, and the crowd was so great, I was shocked, honestly. Because usually, it's just as you described it. Also, the tickets are a little cheaper if you watch a movie before 5 pm, another bonus 🤩
I know it’s not horror but I just had this experience in the new Deadpool. TWO different people brought their kids and it was very frustrating. Didn’t care that they were making sounds and walking down the aisle
I would love to hear your opinion on The Sadness (2021.)! Zombies but on a whole another level!! I didn't know how to feel about it for days after watching it and it was stuck in my head, I even re-rated it 2 times on Letterboxd lol (but each time higher) it is pretty brutal but there's just something about it!
@@PossessedbyHorror oh :( but I get it, I usually avoid movies that have some stuff that this one also has but I gave it a shot and I don't regret it! Btw thank you for answering omg😭 been following you for quite a while now and I watched a lot of good movies because of you 🖤
if you love found-footage horror movies, please try to watch ‘Keramat’ (english title: sacred). it's one of the best indonesian horror found footage movies, but not my personal favorite tho!
Your opinion of found footage just being the most entertaining thing ever is very relatable. I feel this but not about found footage though. I just LOVE "game" horror movies like "Saw", "Exam" or "31". No matter how good or bad the horror movie is, if it is portrayed as a game that the characters have to play, I'll enjoy it.
100% agree with going to the theatre during the day! Except I love me an early morning solo matinee. 10:00/10:30am is my preferred time to go. Im off every Tues & Wed so it’s perfect because mjr has it’s $5 day and free popcorn on Tuesdays. & I love that when I get out it still feels early and I can still get other things done. I also do solo date days where I get a massage and see a movie and it’s so nice 😊
1:29 Just reached the part where you mention willow creek and let me tell you, watching the end sequence for the first time was TERRIFYING! I mean sure in hindsight now that you think of it could be a bit contrived but still the way they build up tension was brilliant and horrifying.
I agree with all of your opinions. As for movie theatres...I just don't go anymore. Between the risk to myself (severe allergies) and the way people act, I'd just rather wait to see things until they're out of theatres. I don't know if this would really count as a "weird" horror opinion. But, I can't stand horror movies that feel like they only exist for shock value. Especially ones where gore or gross-outs seem to be the only point of the movie. I have no problem with gore in an excellent horror movie - but I like a good plot, good characterizations and/or compelling cinematography to be the main point. For example, I watched the first Terrifier movie, but I won't watch the sequel. And I won't watch Terrifier 3 when it comes out. I know for some people the gore IS the point...and I've heard some people say "it's not horror if it's not gory".
2:40 girl i wanna hear your opinions on marble hornets! a found footage cringey internet CLASSSICCC. the horror for a lot of it is genuinely done so fucking well (in my opinion)
I'm writing this as I'm watching because I'm already super inspired by your opinions lol, so: - it's never occured to me to watch found footage this way, I always default to my TV, so this actually just got me really excited to watch some found footage movie this way, this is genuinely brilliant idea; - with religious films, i do agree though it seems to be a very circular thing when back when the exorcist came out there was a bunch of religious horror, lot of it actually made as a fear mongering tactic, encouraged by the catholic church upon realizing people had been deconstructing and stepping away from the institution, and we might be right in the midst of history repeating itself a bit... - BUT, counterpoint, I think mainstream should embrace religious horror that isn't solely based in catholicism. This needs to be done mindfully, I think, to not veer into sensationalization, vilification, and exploitation too much, but I think exploring religious horror from the perspective of non-catholic faith would be interesting, and maybe even subversive for the genre given how often when we discuss religious horror, we really only mean catholic or at most christianity-based horror; - with zombies, they already are having a bit of a renaissance in gaming, with resident evil remaking and expanding the franchise and dead rising getting a remake too, so I hope the dead can pop their heads from their graves more often in cinema as well, I recently watched the return of the living dead and it was a BLAST; - oof, teens in the theater can be such a nuisance (NOT ALL TEENS) but to this day I'm bitter about my experience watching All of us Strangers in the theater with a bunch of teenage boys who must've not known what movie they were going into, and if anyone here has seen it, you know it's a slow intimate piece of gay cinema that is hardly going to entertain a young dude who needs something flashing on screen constantly to keep him from opening TikTok, and that's what it devolved into. A bunch of kids laughing at the film, not really knowing how to process the more mature bits, and scrolling TikTok at full volume, laughing and talking the whole way through... going to the theater these days is so hit or miss because so many folks just don't have the attention span to do it properly, ultimately ruining the experience for everybody around them; - the last point.... it rhymes with Slumhouse lol (not all of them) but I used to be so excited every time their logo popped on screen and now it's just mostly mid (and that's on a good day); Okay, jeez, sorry for addressing literally every point you made, you just made some great and inspiring points, honestly, and I don't get to discuss horror a lot so... Yeah, great video!!
Sorry if you’ve already mentioned either of these before, but if you haven’t seen them before, I recommend #Alive (I know it sounds like a dumb social media movie but I promise it’s not) and The Night Eats The World as some pretty fun Zombie movies that are more modern! Both are foreign films as well
Yes, to everything but especially to the found film takes. I just watch 'Be My Cat, A film for Anne', and it really gave me the uncomfortable feeling I look for in horror/thriller movies. Watch on a small screen with headphones. But I think watching movies/shows with headphones is clutch either way. Very immersive.
I would love a well-done cryptid/urban legend movie. The Curse of La Llorona was a disaster, but that story itself has so much potential to be a good horror movie if it was done any justice at all. I’d love one about El Chupacabra too (made correctly and respectfully to its culture of course). Another horror movie I’d love to see is one about a haunted video game, almost like creepy pasta style. I think that could be so cool!!
No one talked about peeler’s twilight zone when it aired because it required a cbs specific streaming service IIRC and because the free episode available on RUclips wasn’t fantastic imo - I waited a loooong time to watch it and I absolutely love the TZ
My favorite time to go to a new horror movie (actually to the movies in general) is on a Thursday at 3 pm. You get to see the movie before its “official” weekend release. No crowds, no spoilers.
Completely agree on the found footage films!!! I watched them mostly on my laptop and smartphone! And the cashgrab I am with you. The scores on IMDB for some horror movies that are overrated and OVERDONE stories get higher points and so many good movies could get more recognition that's why I rely on your channel thank you
I love what you said about found footage but I also agree with Christian/ Catholic horror over religious cause I’ve seen so few religious horror movies from other cultures and places. That are amazing. While like “ nun / priest “ is so over done
Yep. I hate going to the theater and almost never have time to and having to wait forever to see something and possibly getting spoilers is so annoying

I wish cinemas would be as strict as theatres when it comes to not being able to bring food from outside, no phones, no talking in between and having an employee checking every once in a while
what’s wrong with bringing food?
@@kphoria1009fr
Bringing your own snacks is fine. I usually go to the dollar store and grab some candy and a drink it’s way cheaper than the movie concession stand
Trailers that reveal the whole movie need to just stop, I just avoid them now -.-
Trailer for The Apparition has literally every scare in the movie-- plus the downbeat ending. The entire movie in 90 seconds.
The remake of Speak No Evil has multiple trailers out that have shown waaay too much. People should watch the original
cough smile 2 cough
I agree with you on blumhouse. They feel like lifeless heartless films (sometimes campy accidentally on purpose) that are sholved out every other month. Reminds me of a studio like full moon features but full moon actually has some heart.
The bf and I saw M3gan in a packed theater, it was mostly loud and obnoxious teens. For a movie like that it actually made things more fun!
It’s hilarious that you took a baby to see Saw lmao
I started watching your vids when I was 11 and now I'm 18..safe to say you raised me. Love ya!
Omg no way!! 🖤
Same but I was 13. Love her
@@elliotaldewik8293 same! found her channel when i was 13 and am now 24, she's one of my favorite comfort youtubers
You've had a great horror education 😊
feeling incredibly vindicated about also being the type of person who likes to go see horror movies during the most dead times of day. my most ideal experience is in a completely empty theater.
Sarah: horror movies bring out a certain breed of people, who don’t know theatre etiquette.
Me: so Brenda in that scene in Scary Movie.
YES OMG!!! And not just scary movies but just movies in general
Can confirm that my favorite viewing of The Blair Witch Project was in the middle of the night on a crackle-y 4x6in. portable DVD player lmao
It's not super serious, even when the story itself is played fairly straight.
oh do u mean those horror movies where a lot of the sequences will be very quiet cause it'll solely rely on you anticipating for the jumpscares?
Yes, please do work on a found footage movie, you could crowd fund it also, especially with you already having a large platform 😊
Weird Q but what was the font you used for 13:18 when you wrote about the thought you forgot to include?
Wow I never thought of found footage that way, and I think you're totally right! I watched Blair Witch for the first time as a teen (within a year or two it released) with my dad, in a tent, on a laptop. It was so incredibly effective that no other found footage experience has compared.
For me, found footage means tape recorded, so it was made to be seen on a normal tv screen and stereo sound. That's the way I like to see them.
you have a point
depends on the movie
Can you please do a list of your favorite space horror movies? I know you love both of those genres
I want more “girl monster” movies (like Carrie, Ginger Snaps, Jennifer’s Body, Raw, Teeth) & more horror rom-coms (like Lisa Frankenstein)
I actually have a few "found footage" concepts in mind you might be interested in.
One idea I had was about an urban Explorer going to explore an abandoned place she recalls going to from her childhood and an accident or some chase ensues to where she ends up underground of the abandoned place into another realm where it seems to be some kind of hyper realistic cartoon dimension(think of the world of Trevor Henderson)
Another idea I had was a guy being an insomniac who follows different twitch streamers who clicks a random person who may be in mortal danger and is using RUclips stream to keep in contact with the outside world since emergency services don't seem to be working and he seems to be the only person that knows she exists and is in danger and therefore must find a way to help her
I think second idea have really good concept.
@IaIaIaIaIala Oh, thanks! Yeah, seems like something that could happen is why I thought of it lol
The second idea is going to happen. Someone will make this if you don’t!!
I think the only time a packed movie theater made a difference (for the better) with my experience of watching a movie was when the original Quiet Place came out. There was absolutely no sound to be heard from the movie goers. No munching on popcorn or opening candy. It was honestly an experience I wish I could relive.
That sounds awesome. I liked A Quiet Place much less because there WAS audience noise in my theater. Also noise from the movie next door
I am with you on the days & times at the cinema. Sunday morning first showing is usually pretty good.
I don't watch found footage horror often, but your take on the small screen makes sense
As a found footage fan, you should def watch the Horror in the High Desert trilogy if you havent already and make a video about it, I would love to hear your opinions on it, cause I watch a lot of horror since forever and these films have been one of the scariest ive seen in the last few months
Oh, by the way, thank you for introducing me to Gonjian, - i got the recommendations in your channel
I’m new and I can’t stop watching so could u do a video on Horror movies with a group of friends and Movies like Unfriended (Video call Horror movies) I’ve seen pretty much EVERY horror movie I could find and I can’t find anything anymore😂😭
Edit: And Ouija movies it’s so hard to find any after watching so many horror movies
Also Great video :)
totally agree with you about seeing movies by yourself in the middle of the day! definitely the best experience imo
Last time I watched the Blair Witch Project (last August) it was in a tent by myself in northern Manitoba Canada while there were forest fires and the air was thick with smoke. It was a different experience. Lol
you sure there was no skinwalker? XD
I would have died on the spot
I know this might be a weird perspective but the best movie experience I ever had was seeing Paranormal Activity 3 in a packed theater when I lived in Philly. Everyone in the audience was cracking jokes, screaming together, laughing together; the energy was amazing. It was like being at a huge sleepover. I normally don’t like disruptions but there was a camaraderie that night that made it really fun and special.
Ur videos r literally better than any found footage movie ever made 😭 i can’t stand found footage but to each their own
My best movie viewing experience was when I was 14.
Yes you should work on a found footage movie, I’d love to see that!
The worst is when there are BABIES in a movie theater.
Like yall cant get a babysitter so you have to disrupt other people's viewing experience?
I agree with that
Plus that is a bonkers sensory overload for a teeny baby 😢
Especially taking them to a horror film?
I know it’s not horror but I just had this experience in the new Deadpool. TWO different people brought their kids and it was very frustrating. Didn’t care that they were making sounds and walking down the aisle
I still remember the 12-year-old who is sitting next to me during cocaine Bear and was not having a good time.
I had a group of vaping tweens who were movie hoppers when I saw LongLegs 😤 summer releases are tough due to many kids being out of school
Your videos are always so good and entertaining. Keep up the amazing work
I would love to hear your opinion on The Sadness (2021.)! Zombies but on a whole another level!! I didn't know how to feel about it for days after watching it and it was stuck in my head, I even re-rated it 2 times on Letterboxd lol (but each time higher) it is pretty brutal but there's just something about it!
That’s one I’m never going to watch I’m sorry!
@@PossessedbyHorror oh :( but I get it, I usually avoid movies that have some stuff that this one also has but I gave it a shot and I don't regret it!
Btw thank you for answering omg😭 been following you for quite a while now and I watched a lot of good movies because of you 🖤
@@mimimajonezI've started watching the movie, but I couldn't continue, it's so gross.
if you love found-footage horror movies, please try to watch ‘Keramat’ (english title: sacred). it's one of the best indonesian horror found footage movies, but not my personal favorite tho!
YES! Your own found footage horror movie would be so cool & good!
I love your hair! So pretty 🥰
I'm writing this as I'm watching because I'm already super inspired by your opinions lol, so:
- it's never occured to me to watch found footage this way, I always default to my TV, so this actually just got me really excited to watch some found footage movie this way, this is genuinely brilliant idea;
- with religious films, i do agree though it seems to be a very circular thing when back when the exorcist came out there was a bunch of religious horror, lot of it actually made as a fear mongering tactic, encouraged by the catholic church upon realizing people had been deconstructing and stepping away from the institution, and we might be right in the midst of history repeating itself a bit...
- BUT, counterpoint, I think mainstream should embrace religious horror that isn't solely based in catholicism. This needs to be done mindfully, I think, to not veer into sensationalization, vilification, and exploitation too much, but I think exploring religious horror from the perspective of non-catholic faith would be interesting, and maybe even subversive for the genre given how often when we discuss religious horror, we really only mean catholic or at most christianity-based horror;
- with zombies, they already are having a bit of a renaissance in gaming, with resident evil remaking and expanding the franchise and dead rising getting a remake too, so I hope the dead can pop their heads from their graves more often in cinema as well, I recently watched the return of the living dead and it was a BLAST;
- oof, teens in the theater can be such a nuisance (NOT ALL TEENS) but to this day I'm bitter about my experience watching All of us Strangers in the theater with a bunch of teenage boys who must've not known what movie they were going into, and if anyone here has seen it, you know it's a slow intimate piece of gay cinema that is hardly going to entertain a young dude who needs something flashing on screen constantly to keep him from opening TikTok, and that's what it devolved into. A bunch of kids laughing at the film, not really knowing how to process the more mature bits, and scrolling TikTok at full volume, laughing and talking the whole way through... going to the theater these days is so hit or miss because so many folks just don't have the attention span to do it properly, ultimately ruining the experience for everybody around them;
- the last point.... it rhymes with Slumhouse lol (not all of them) but I used to be so excited every time their logo popped on screen and now it's just mostly mid (and that's on a good day);
Okay, jeez, sorry for addressing literally every point you made, you just made some great and inspiring points, honestly, and I don't get to discuss horror a lot so...
Both are foreign films as well
YES! YES TO THE MOVIE THEATER ONE! Middle of the day is the perfect time to go to the theaters
I get stuck in routines and forget other options are allowed so I really appreciate the first opinion to try out tonight
Hidden gem Spanish black & white movie from 2020 called History of the occult. On Tubi.
Wow I was down with everything you said, but "bring zombies back" hurt to hear.
My favorite time to go to a new horror movie (actually to the movies in general) is on a Thursday at 3 pm. You get to see the movie before its “official” weekend release. No crowds, no spoilers.
Sarah should make a video about horror movies that would be amazing in a black-and-white option!
I would totally watch a found footage movie that you made!!!! That sounds exciting! You know horror!
If I could rent every movie at home on opening day I would.
This! I wouldn’t mind paying a little extra to do so!
Yep. I hate going to the theater and almost never have time to and having to wait forever to see something and possibly getting spoilers is so annoying
just noticed the shirt, so good
I find opening nights to a popular horror movie can be pretty fun. I just like how the crowd gets into the tension and scares.
Why do I agree with most of these- those 12pmish movies alone are the best experiences. I love seeing a movie alone
