Throughout this video I interview my good friend Bryce, who is an engineering project manager at Apple. Bryce has a ton of experience both in the software engineering space and the PM space, with past internships at Viasat and Microsoft. Throughout the interview, Bryce gives some crucial advice for computer science majors (and non-computer science majors), like interview prep, application tips and ways to approach imposter syndrome!
Being a computer science major generally has a direct path to becoming a software engineer. As a computer science student, you study all of the fundamentals of computer science and software engineering, allowing for more of a seamless transition into the tech industry.
The program management space is much less defined for college students in general. For many computer science students that like coding, but may not love it, the PM career path may seem very appealing. Yet, there is no distinct "program management" or "project management" college majors.
Which may be fortunate or unfortunate for many current college students. Bryce mentions that he works will many other PMs from a diverse set of academic backgrounds at Apple, and likewise at Microsoft! So whether you are a computer science major, a data science major, a management science major or a history major, you can get an amazing job in the tech PM space!

Thank you both so much for this video!
I have a passion for project management and am currently looking for more opportunities. This has helped me understand what I love about project management as well as how to feel more comfortable in the role.
Glad you enjoyed it and best of luck!
Great content on the EPM role, especially the piece on transitioning into tech. Thanks Mikie and Bryce. Hope to see more content like this.
Thanks and glad you found it useful!
Great interview! Lots to take away and just all-around good career advice for the tech scene.
Thanks man!
Hi, just stumbled across your video looking for Apple interview questions for PD. It’s so cool that I have a lot of things common with you two. I am currently working at Northrop Grumman too! I got in with NGC at a job conference and now I have a interview with Apple coming up this week. I really enjoyed this interview.
Thank you, guys, for the great interview to hear and see! Such a good opportunity to see how it goes there in US. Cheers from me, PM at VK company in Moscow, Russia.
Two of my favorite people 🥺
This is Great video thanks for uploading!!
Aye glad you liked it!
thanks for the video you got good content keep going.
Thanks!
For the side project for PM, I would suggest joining student clubs that our project base ( such as the rocketry team or like the race car team...)
Wonderful content, if you can create one video for EPM with Apple (from hardware side) ?
I would absolutely adore this as well :)
When does Microsoft go to UCSD campus? Where do they post the news about tech companies university recruiting events?
They usually have 3 career fairs per year (one in Fall, Winter and Spring). Usually around the time of the career fairs is when a lot of tech companies will visit campus. Usually the UCSD career center announces all of the events for that so you should regularly check their site!
automatic like for putting up timestamps.
cheers!
Nice video😘
Thanks 🤗
sounds real low
First (just kidding)
Great video, looking to watch it
