From what i can tell, it appears that at the beginning, the parents loved BOTH Maddie and Cupcake. But for some reason, the parents slowly began to verbally abuse Maddie over time judging by the clouds over their mouths and her face. They hid it from Cupcake and treated him like normal, basically favouring him over Maddie. The abuse just got even worse to the point Maddie is terrified, and then the father dies. Cupcake finally sees the abuse.
It's still unclear why the parents just suddenly began to abuse Maddie out of the blue and favour Cupcake. At the start it appeared that they did love her as much as Cupcake. But of course, CrazedCake knows a ton more than i (since they're their characters obviously).
It is implied in other videos that Maddie ISN'T the mother's child.
So it was either infidelity or from a previous marriage...
Theory: TW
Cupcake was the favorite child, and the parents were abusive toward Maddie and kept Cupcake completely in the dark about the situation. Every time Maddie would run to Cupcake for help/comfort, the parents would act nice and would gaslight Maddie as well as lying to Cupcake. This resulted in the siblings having two outlooks on the parents. Eventually Cupcake was clued in after the dad died. He was horrified and ran away. After Cupcake ran away, Maddie was still be harassed/gas lighted by her mom. This drove Maddie insane. Then one day the bakery was robbed by none other then cupcake.

Here I go again:
I'm guessing that Maddie was the hated child of the family, while Cupcake was the exact opposite, though Maddie never grew to hate him.
The hand over Cupcake's face was probably representing that the parents wanted nothing to do with Maddie, and were putting on a facade by manipulating Cupcake to thinking that Maddie was fine, although he never knew what his parents behaved with Maddie so he probably never found out about the abuse.
Eventually, Cupcake would be taking over for his father's bakery, but still struck by grief as well as stress eating what his father used to bake for them.
This is when Cupcake began robbing bakeries, but for what reason? Well I'm guessing it was probably because of his father. The cupcakes he made for both of them became a sort of comfort food for Cupcake after he passed away. So he started robbing bakeries to find more of this comfort food, as it's what helps to calm him.
That's just one of the reasons, but the second reason could be that he's robbing bakeries to supply his own.
Same thing I thought as well.
Then after their dad passed away, his mom started to hate Maddie even more while Cupcakes started to rob more bakeries.
And Maddie was worried about Cupcake but she didn't even care about it.
Ever time the mom yells at Maddie, she would ignore or pretend she's hearing her mom by putting on her headphones.

I love that even through what Maddie has been through she can't bring herself to hate Cupcake. And actually feels bad that their father died because she knows that they were close. She just wants to know why she couldn't have that relationship with them.

I’ve watched this video so many times and I don’t regret clicking on this video. It’s so good! and as a beginner animator myself, the movement is just so fluid that I can’t imagine me being able to animate like that (at least not for a long time)
Can we please appreciate how this storyline isn’t about Cupcake being the hated child? I see that every time in somebody’s video, and it gets boring. Just them being the hated child and blah blah blah.

okay I have never seen these characters before but i think I've slowly been able to piece together what's happening. In the beginning, maddie and cupcake (his name is written as christopher but everyone is calling him cupcake so I'm assuming there's a reason, probably a nickname of sorts) seem to be pretty happy, having cupcakes with presumably their father. in the first round of black and whites etc, it seems like maddie started off being treated relatively decent. in the end of the first round, you can see what looks like what looks like the parents eyes? I'm gonna assume this is some sort of indicator that her parents started to become strict to her. in the second round it seems that cupcake continues to be treated normally. in the third round the eyes are still on maddie, so it seem she experience of being 'watched' and judged by her parents continues, but then there are clouds over the parents mouths and based on Maddie's expressions I'm assuming this means they started verbally abusing her. in the fourth round, cupcake is smiling and the father(?) is covering his eyes and I think this means that they hid their abuse of maddie from cupcake, so cupcake was under the impression that everything was normal, but when the father disappears, the mothers eyes begin to show. I think this means that once the father died, the mother began being strict to cupcake too (maybe it was her way of coping with the father's death?). in the fifth round we can see both parents yelling at maddie and maddie seeming terrified, implying the abuse only got worse over time. in the sixth round, the parents are happily smiling with cupcake but then they turn to maddie and the eyes appear again, further reinforcing the idea that they kept cupcake in the dark of the way they were treating maddie. in the sixth round, maddie is rushing to cupcake, probably seeking protection because 1) it seems like cupcake is the older sibling and 2) the parents dont yell at her with cupcake around. the dark faces are shown to have been what caused maddie to hide but smiling masks are put over them so cupcake doesnt see. in the seventh round, the parents aren't in the scene but maddie is still terrified and cupcake is just so confused as to why maddie is so scared because he's been sheltered from the reality. oh lol I just realized why he goes by cupcake, reading the note on his room door. maddie goes in his room and...I'm not sure who that is outside the window but i feel like they're related to the father's death. then the father's death is shown when his portrait is replaced with a grave. it clips to maddie, probably showing her reaction to his death by showing the scene of him yelling at her followed with a scene where he's replaced by a grave. it seems to me that she doesn't really know how to feel about the death of someone who abused her, which is a very real experience for a lot of people. it does the same thing showing how cupcake is really heartbroken and upset. it shows the bakery will be renamed (probably because it was named after the father who is now dead/without the father's income they couldn't keep the bakery) and cupcake eating a cupcake, followed by cupcakes surrounding him. ir feel like this is either him eating them because they remind him of his dad or showing how hes just generally eating more as a way to cope (or both). in the next scene, it goes back to maddie looking outside the window and what appears to be a person with a crowbar (maybe they broke in and killed the dad?). also there's some sort of rope up to cupcakes room which is...strange? did the crowbar guy get that up there? was it a silly thing cupcake had that the crowbar guy ended up using to break in? if so i can see cupcake blaming himself for his father's death. I'm assuming the rope related to the death..then it shows that maddie left the room, maybe because of cupcake not being there. then back to after the father's death, it seems that as maddie got older she was kind of desensitized to being abused/started being openly less obedient/both and .... the next scene, it seems like she might be hurt? and shes stitching "I'm sorry" into a cloth, maybe as a punishment for being disobedient? then it shows someone who looks like cupcake breaking open the window? not sure if this is an unrelated event to the death, but I'm pretty sure it is because he's wearing the outfit he wore after the death. I feel like maybe after his mom got worse he got less mentally stable and possibly did this out of anger or to take something? but it s a dark parallel...if not, I'm assuming the crowbar guy was actually cupcake all along but I'm also assuming that he didn't kill the father because of his reaction to the father's death. maybe he did this as a reaction to finding out about how fucked up things were and how it was hidden from him? maybe he somehow accidentally killed the father? maybe both? as in he reacted to finding this out by killing his dad???????? idk not sure about the last bits, any ideas?

The crowbar guy IS Cupcake hehe, he wore the same clothes when Maddie hid behind him
The rope you see outside the window is what Cupcake used to leave the house for his robberies. Maddie went in his room and caught him leaving this time.

Theory: The masks that the parents have drawn on them when Chris walks in represents them pretending everything is fine. I believe Maddie was verbally abused in some way by the parents, and wanted to come into Chris’s room to hide from them. Also this animation and art is spot on! Great work Cake! :D
Christopher's lore is so interesting, and I can't wait to see more of it! There are so many secrets hidden in this video, and I love trying to read / find them all! Not only is this insanely smooth, but it also tells such a cool story. Definitely the best thing you've ever made aaaaa

This so cool, totally worth the wait. It's also refreshing to see a radio meme that isn't just two frames of a character going back and forth, or headbobbing. Nothing wrong with that of course, but it's nice to see something different sometimes! Also, I really like the different relationships between Maddie and the parents vs cupcake and the parents, and how maybe they have a hard time connecting after they're father's passing because of theyre respective relationships. I LOVE THIS STORY

Theory time:
Both Maddie and Christopher are siblings and they're parents seemed to be bakers,right. Seen in the beginning. But something I cant pinpoint happens. They grew up I supposed and their parents start favoring Christopher over Maddie at 0:57 which obviously affects Maddie. Also, at 0:44 a Male figure was covering cupcakes eyes and when he moved he saw what maddie was going through. At 1:04 they obviously seem mean to Maddie but fake smile at Christopher to assure him everythings fine as to why he doesn't seem to be bothered at Maddie when he saw her freaking ou at 1:07. Maddie seems shes blocking out negative comments here at 1:31 but looks absolutely crazy here at 1:34. Somewhere down the line, Christopher became addicted to sweetness. Maddie one day saw went to check on him and noticed he leaving at 1:12. He began breaking into cafes to get cupcakes since his parents probably died and couldn't make him anymore cupcakes, earning him the nickname Cupcake and a criminal.

That makes alot of sense and on that frame where Maddie looks absolutely crazy I noticed she's sewing the words "I'm Sorry" so she's possibly trying to apologize for whatever reason her parents favoured cupcake over her

So from what I can tell,
Their parents show clear favoritism towards one child over the other, so the death of the father breaks the child who loved him and only has good memories of him. This causes a rift between the siblings because neither can understand or relate to other anymore as they cannot understand why one would be so hurt over his death. (Or why one wouldn't seem to really be affected by the death of her father)

Context: The parents mistreated the daughter without the knowledge of the other son who is dearer than the other daughter, but then the father died and when the mother died she could no longer hide the mistreatment they gave the girl and then the son. she realized but missed her father so much that she couldn't bear it and ran away and the girl had to stay alone with her mother while the boy who escaped robbed stores and other things :/
Contexto: Los padres maltrataban a la hija sin que lo supiera el otro hijo que es más querido que la otra hija pero luego el padre murió y cuando murió la madre ya no pudo ocultar el maltrato que le daban a la niña y entonces ahí el hijo se dió cuenta pero extrañaba tanto a su padre que no pudo soportarlo y escapó y la niña tuvo que quedarse sola con su madre mientras el niño que escapó robaba tiendas y otras cosas :/

For people who don’t know what is happening basically Maddie is not her mother’s child so everyone hates her but Chris, anyway when Christopher’s dad died he ran away and went crazy stealing cupcakes bc his dad baked cupcakes and Chris just wanted to taste them once more… but no cupcakes can match his dad’s and now he’s driving himself mad by obtaining cupcakes, meanwhile Maddie is still at home and her “mom” is forcing her to sew I honestly think that when she sews the chica plush head she is trying to go back to better times.

From what I can tell, Maddie and Chris seem to have parents that really are the best, favoring Chris and pretending they are good people when in reality they’re verbally abusive towards Melissa and due to the fact Chris doesn’t know it he doesn’t really help Melissa, and he views his father in extremely high light, which makes it worse, however the eventual death of Chris’s father made Madeline slightly relieved as it was one abusive parent she wouldn’t see anymore, however it drove Chris into a depression, and during that depression something happened which can be seen in the crazed Heist 0-1, which led to Chris becoming a criminal. That’s what I’ve pieced together so far. I can’t wait to see more of this series

At the end u see how maddies step mom looks kinda disfigured because maddie thinks she is a monster from the way she treats her
So let me get this straight, maddie was the hated the child and chris was the favorite and when the parents were mad at her she would come to chris then they will act friendly and chris had no idea that maddie was getting hated on then when the dad died maddie didn't really care well Chris cried but maddie was still getting hated by the mom after some time chris ran away from home. Time went on then maddie learn how to knet but she was so traumatize she would knet shirts saying "I'm sorry"

Also, one of the things that I noticed, at 1:09 , there is the note -i'm not going to write the entire note, just the end of it- which says,, (or, as dad used 2 call me, Cupcake''. So i'm going to guess that Christopher/Cupcake decided to change their name(?) to Cupcake bc it is what his dad called him.

Theory time (but I’ll probably be horribly wrong lmao):
Cupcake was always favored more by his parents, and would always wear a smile when near him, even if they were angered at Maddie seconds previously. They would also hide all their wrong doings from him (0:41), but i think Maddie saw through it. Then sometime after the announcement of the bakery changing it’s name, their father dies. After Cupcake goes to break in to 2 other bakeries, I honestly can’t tell what happened at 1:34, doubt Maddie killed their mom tho due to the wording In one of Crazed Cakes insta posts [cant link cause my comment got deleted, but look at one of the newer ones with Avi], or i just read it wrong-

I think that Maddie is so hated is because she's a girl and perhaps her parents wanted to be a boy so that he can own the bakery
(This is proven in 1:23 when you look at the sign that apparently his dad renamed the bakery because of him, giving the impression he was supposed to be the heir of the bakery)
I guess their those sexist parents who think girls can't be heirs to some big corporation like in the olden days in the royal family
