I’ve travelled to China. Never had anything stolen, even when left on restaurant table. Very honest people. Would definitely not happen in North America.
Because helping others takes time (contacting the police, or waiting for the owner to return), most people choose to leave in a hurry rather than waste time on it.
If you pick up that thing in China, you need to wait for the owner to arrive. If he doesn't arrive, you need to hand it over to the police. This is why you can pick up the goods at China's express delivery stations without anyone stopping you, but no one will steal your express delivery. It seems to be a habit not to take other people's things.
There is an old saying in China that roughly means: "Don't test the limits of people's tolerance or loyalty, for it is dangerous." Even in a secure environment, such tests should not be conducted, as they can have negative effects on both the individual and those around them.
@@MrAlexCage you should test this thing more on other countries more likely those things been taken, it will more entertained. more entertainment and to judge.
@@MrAlexCage Yes, Chinese people have their own traditional culture and moral concepts. Yes, it happened to me, too. I left my cell phone inside the bathroom stall. When I went back shortly, the cleaning lady was there watching it for me❤😊
If you mean the battery, There are Charging banks for hire. You go to the dispenser, Scan you barcode to pay, take a charging bank, plug in and walk away. Drop the bank at any dispenser in the area when your phone is charged.
If that's an authentic luxury watch and someone steals it, it's mandatory jail time, and believe me thieves will be caught. The cops are bored these days. If you give them a theft case they will send an entire squad on top of it.
The law stipulates that anyone who steals more than 1,000 yuan ($137) will be sentenced to 3 years in prison. More than 30,000 yuan ($4,000), 10 years in prison. If the amount exceeds 300,000 yuan (40,000$), the prison term will be more than ten years.
If you put your mobile phone, computer or other things on the bench, Chinese people may think that you are just "occupying a seat"😂. You can see that no one is sitting on the bench in the video. However, this behavior is dangerous because you are not testing safety, but rather testing people's moral standards, which is not reliable. Thank you for your interesting video.
the point is in some cities, they will take your stuff and sit there 😂 - if someone took it, he would not show it in the video ( just say) - " place holding" in Sanya recently ... ruclips.net/user/clipUgkx1eh4nc9kvBwcabFywtlfcM7So_a83l8q?si=cEedHqMhcJu_ufj7
Went to an office in China. Was carrying a suitcase with clothes and other valuables. Security said suitcase not allowed in the building. They told me to leave it outside, at a nearby park. Four hours later, I came out of the office. The park was empty, the guards at the building I’d entered were no longer there, but my suitcase was where I’d left it. No one had touched it. I was surprised.
I had the same experience once when my wallet was forgotten on a table in a restaurant in China, and got it back in about 30 minutes when I rushed back to find out that the wallet was picked up by someone and handed it to the restaurant management. However, I do think people should take care of their belongings.
@@cocapuffs Because the human heart is the most untestable thing. In China, we have a proverb that I can give you. There are two things in the world that you cannot look directly at: one is the sun, and the other is the human heart.
@@cocapuffs It must be emphasized that they don't take these things not because they are kind, but because they know that they have done something bad and can be easily caught. In kindergarten, we all learned a nursery rhyme that goes like this: "I found a penny on the sidewalk, I gave it to a policeman so fine. He took the penny and nodded his head, I happily said, 'Goodbye, officer, and take care!'"
Interesting, informative and revealing. Though two small social experiments, they Say a lot about Chinese people’s behavior in the public. Admirable and Respectable. Very.
i am chinese, i know there are a few reasons for why nobody tried to touch your items.1. some chinese people are really not greedy, it is good manner that we were taught in young age. 2.with the quality of life improvement, people do not lack of those things. 3.there are a lot of cameras on the streets, if the person who take them away, they will be find by police officers soon, and the impact of it is serious(i think it is the primary reason) .4. it has risk to touch something what is not belongs to you outside, if you pick up a wallet with 100 rmb in, then the owner find you and says it contains 500 rmb, then you will get into trouble. so that is why your sun glasses and watch still on the bench.
I come from a very traditional chinese family and my family always taught me that picking up something from the ground may bring bad omens because u will never know if there's "anything attached" to the item. My parents taught me not to even pick up cash because it could be a bait or something. Therefore I never pick up anything I see on the ground unless its an ID or something where the owner of the item can be identified
I have a friend who is a police officer in Shanghai. More than a decade ago, the job of his department was to catch thieves. Several years ago, this job was no longer possible because it was almost impossible to catch thieves. So they switched to catching sexual harassment in the subway. Recently, he has been very worried because it is difficult to complete the task quota. As usual, there are fewer criminals. Funny, right?
When we were in Amsterdam for vacation this summer, my wife left her iphone on a bench like this in downtown during a busy afternoon. When we reaized it five minutes later, we frantically searched everywhere. Luckily two kind tourists from Germany saw the phone sitting on the bench and they kept it for us. I was almost sure the phone was gone, but we were lucky that day that the phone fell in the right hands.😊
you know your videos won't go rival as those anti-China RUclips channels? You gotta use extremely negative and extremely clickbait titles to attrack viewers as most viewers in the West are more into negative narratives about China. Try to use titles like this: Communist China is dangerous, CCP's regime is falling apart, massive CCP surveillance system oppressing citizens, etc.. videos with these titles easily get favored by RUclips algorithm and western viewers.
Their trolls are trying to stir things up so that China's neighbouring countries come to hate China. They want to use them as their shield in their future battle against China. They call China bully while they themselves do FAR worse, in the past and today.
Vloggers in China are getting crazier and crazier; this is the 3rd unattended item test I see in one week. Sunglasses and watch on the bench, stuffed backpack in the basket of share bike, laptop on the table of fast food restaurant. Please stop littering in public🤣.
Very few ever noticed that china gov started a compaign aiming at "eliminating poverty" in around 2015 and declared total victory in 2020. And those who did notice were making jokes and memes on the declaration, even the chinese cyberspace were mocking on it, saying jokes like "good bye dear, as a poor guy i will be eliminated tomorrow." But you do see the outcomes of the campaign. I am 40 now and was born and raised in Qingdao in north China, and lived most of my life in China, except for 3 years in Paris and Kyoto for a phd. And untill around 2010, china was NOT SAFE at all. Theft was somehow common, policeman asked for bribes, and you should always avoid encounter with some "ethnic groups" on the street. Things changed really a lot but as the Internationale says, change doesn't come from above, it took lots of hard effort to make it a reality.
Once I drove to Shenzhen for a trip. I parked my car on the side of the road and went to a restaurant for dinner. I forgot to close the trunk when I left. Two hours later, I came back and found that I had forgotten to lock the trunk. It was open. In the trunk were my suitcases, a ventilator, and some other things. They were all intact.
25 years ago this is not the case. I had my leather pouch stolen practically in front of me in a split second. My sister in law had her backpack slashed to try steal things inside. Today with all the education that crime doest pay , police apprehend culprits quickly and there are 200M CCTVs with face recognition tech - the ppl have gone thru a period of social education and deterrence. Now it is normal just to stay honest and mind your own biz. Also there is no cash so ppl n homes are very safe. Also the ban on guns, drugs and gangs helped keep the streets safe and clean.
That's true. I don't mean to stir up racial conflicts, but in fact, 25 years ago, there were many theft gangs from Xinjiang in Suzhou. Even thieves who were only a few years old were instigated by the gangs to commit large-scale thefts. Due to ethnic policies, they would not be punished and were usually sent back to their registered places of residence. Therefore, there were police from Xinjiang stationed in every county and city in Suzhou, and they would deal with them once they were caught.
Ten years ago, there were stealing gangs in Xinjiang, and Uyghur children committed crimes, and the police could do nothing about it. There were also Uyghur vendors selling things, and if didn't pay a high price to buy his things, he would take a knife, and the police would not dare to deal with it
A few years back I carelessly left my iphone in the Shanghai Tower's toilet after visiting that iconic attraction. I was already out of the building along the streets when I realised that my iphone was not with me. I quickly rushed back to the Tower and approached the reception counter but not really having much hope of ever seeing it again as that was an expensive iphone. Guess what ? When I told the receptionist what had happened, she just smiled, bent down below the counter and handed my iphone (nicely wrapped in a plastic bag) to me and said that someone had found my phone and had handed it to her, thinking that the owner will be back for it. Tks god for the honesty of the Chinese ppl. Amazing ! 👍
I envy China. As a Chinese in America, I saw one of my vacation homes broken in a few times every year, and the police did absolutely anything. There are great Americans, but the bad ones make you know their existence.
I just go back from china.. i accidentally left my bag with 6passport and cell phone on mrt station.. 3hour later i just realized and i go back there, the cleaning service took my bag and transfer to security... Finally i get back my bag
In China, most cities have surveillance cameras everywhere. People are trained NOT to pick up other people belonging since whoever left stuffs there would come back to get them when they realized that they lost items. It is very safe in China, any time of the day! Safe to travel and live in China.
In Hongkong I witnessed such a good example. We left our bag ang carrier in a corner without any padlock to secure those items and yet after 10 hours nothing lost. ❤
As a Chinese, based on my understanding of the Chinese police, if these two things are stolen, according to the value of your watch, the thief will be sentenced to about 10 years in prison if caught, and he will be caught within a few hours. No one will spend his entire life committing a crime that is 100% likely to be caught. Of course, if it is in the United States, just pretend that I said nothing.
As a Chinese, we should remind everyone that there are good people and bad people everywhere. We should pay attention to the safety of personal life and property, and do not have too high expectations for anyone or anything.
If you see the behavior of picking up express delivery at express delivery stations in China, you will be shocked. It is almost impossible to get the wrong package, even if no one stops you from doing anything.
In 2016, I forgot my computer bag in Shanghai Pu Dong airport. There were my laptop and iPad inside, I bought them only three months. When I was crying, one staff of Shanghai Pu Dong airport called me, someone found my computer bag in the duty free shop and took it to the airport office. And they found inside the bag, there was my notebook with telephone number, then they called me. After several years, I still appreciate this person and Shanghai Pu Dong airport office.
The most likely to be lost in China is beverage bottles, especially half-drinked bottles. If you put your valuables and beverage bottles together, you will only lose your beverage bottles.
I lived in China for a decade. Like everywhere else there are good people and bad people, honest and dishonest. I've left my bank card in an ATM slot, but somebody just removed it and placed on top of the machine, no attempt at fraud.

A month ago, in Chengdu, I was attending an exhibition with my laptop. While drinking coffee, I decided to get rid of the burden, so I put my laptop and backpack on a chair in the coffee shop and went to the exhibition. I came back about 3 hours later, took my computer and backpack and left. I'm glad that no one is stealing anything, so I don't have to carry heavy stuff around all the time, but I can safely put it somewhere.

This was just in my feed, so first time watch. This to me now is nothing, but I would have been shocked when I was in UK. I've been here and in Asia for nearly two years. No need to lock my bike, or even take the keys out of my moped. I leave my laptop in the cafe while I go and do stuff. I left my hat in a bar last week and I went back a week later, and it was hung up on the clothes hanger, haha. Totally safe country and I love it here. All the ridiculous comments about freedoms and whatnot, are just people in the west, who know nothing about China, or Chinese culture. In fact one of my early films here, from last year, I lost my house keys and was worried about my stuff as my keys really identify where I live (not recommended in UK!), and the next day, someone had not only found them, but left them outside my flat. It used to blow my mind, but you soon get used to it.
@@MrAlexCage I often say 'freedom' is my favourite thing about China, to the shock and disbelief of westerners. So many freedoms, that I take for granted now. I can take my bike out and park somewhere, go and eat, and come back to it, unlike in UK where it has a parking ticket on it from a private company who want to f**k my life and credit rating up! haha
@@MrAlexCage reminds me of a Chris Rock comedy sketch which I love, about why people get arrested and imprisoned... his advice... DON'T DO illegal things! haha

It wasn’t the case before the cameras everywhere.😂. In the old days, the restaurant would put a cover over the customer’s properties if they noticed the customers had put their purses etc. behind their back after sitting down. That’s to prevent thieves. It’s a trade off between the privacy and security.
No matter where there are good people and bad people, although I am from China, I will still take care of my things, no matter how safe it is, there is a risk of loss, don't test people's hearts

30 years ago if u leave valuable stuffs outside in china mostly likely people take it, but recent years Chinese economy getting bigger and richer people are busing making real money and not doing petty stuff. On their hands US used to be safer back in the 80s or 90s but now is getting worse due to economy and inflation and stealing is like second income for most people.
From a Chinese: Thank you for your for appreciating our safety and defending our honour, but please be careful in the future and don't do more tests like this, as Chinese myself, wouldn't dare to do that, there are still bad people and crime here, although not as bad as before, but still should be attentive on your personal belongings. Thanks again, legend, have a good time.
Most people were busy walking, only a few noticed the items. Even then, they didn't pick up the items likely because of street surveillance cameras everywhere.
Mate, I found the same thing in China when I visited. No-one touched your stuff if left alone. I can NOT say the same thing in Europe or USA. I was picked pocketed at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Acropolis in Greece, and NYC in USA. I still can not figure out how they do it. Now I carry no cash or card ... all transactions are done on my phone.
The point some people are missing is not that you should leave your stuff unattended. There is a chance, however slim, that even in China they'll go missing. The point is the relative safety of China compare to many other places. If you happen to forget your belongings at a cafe or a public place, there is good chance it'll be there when you get back. But that is by no means guaranteed. In comparison, if you leave your things in many other countries for even a minute, it's almost guaranteed that it'll be gone. And if you're in the US or UK, they might even take it from you while you're holding it in your hand.
A chinese idiom ‘’ 路不拾遗‘’ do not pick up things on the road, simply means dont take things that not your own. It is always taught to students in schools from young. It is part and parcel of cultural behavior in the chinese society.

This is why you can pick up the goods at China's express delivery stations without anyone stopping you, but no one will steal your express delivery.
Wow that's amazing!
@ They were also in GZ but CCTVs made it difficult to steal and also no cash now.
Amazing ! 👍

In China, most cities have surveillance cameras everywhere. People are trained NOT to pick up other people belonging since whoever left stuffs there would come back to get them when they realized that they lost items. It is very safe in China, any time of the day! Safe to travel and live in China.
That's a culture thing in China, if you left something on the table or chair, it means the table or chair is occupied, so usually nobody would it.
It is interesting how different cultures have different norms, right?🤔
In Hongkong I witnessed such a good example.

這是撿不是盜竊,只要還給失主,大概率不會處罰。你可以看很多撿到手機的新聞,他們并沒有被處罰。
拿走了被找到的时候只要承认并归还,大概率是不会被抓的,但会被教育下次不要这么干。
good experiment, skeptic would argue that they are under video surveillance... but again, it still means good safety in public places.
I once saw on RUclips, several CCTVs in a closed shop in a US city were recording several thieves who were openly looting the goods in the shop.

As we Chinese know, we can put mobile phones and wallets here, but we can't put pens and napkins here😂
The point some people are missing is not that you should leave your stuff unattended.
