      Let's be honest here 😂
      Never seen a distro take so long to update its version, even a distro owned by one person is faster, even Debian that is famous for being old and dated is faster. The excuse of ”stability" doesn't work anymore. They will need to give another reason.

    • @rspgpfamily
      @rspgpfamily Год назад +4

      @@Arnt91 Agreed. I have it as a dual boot in my old Windows 10 based Dell Inspiron 13 2017 laptop i3-7100 by carving around 60 GB of a 1TB SSD out of Windows and installed 16.3 Lite aka XFCE.
      Zorin while looking good is unfortunately still uses Focal Fossa 20.04 LTS based and it is inexcusable. Still no Jammy based distro?? With the new 22.4.3 LTS upgrade even Ubuntu has upgraded the Kernel to 6.2. What prevents Zorin from implementing it?
      Even the boomer OS PCLinuxOS which mixes and matches things between RPM and DEB is running 6.4 Kernel.

      @@rspgpfamily Get to the point that even Debian stable updated and they was still using Ubuntu 20.04. This is an absurd for me. I'm sure they will take an eternity for releasing a version based on 24.04, of course, when this Ubuntu version is ready. I bet it would be years and years of waiting after Ubuntu got it done. They might think... Well, what about a new version of Zorin? This probably by the end of 2026. 😱😂

    yo… It's all good… But in every video you talk about each one like it's the one and only Shit… like the ultimate gonna be the next hard standard for the next X years… I think it's cool that you never say anything negative… This is my second dive into Linux and I'm all in this time so I'm watching a lot of videos but I always remember you because of the way you speak. You're always really excited about things and that's good to go… You sound Way more natural in videos this year compared to you're earlier vids in which you sound very scripted. So if you keep going your're gonna be a Boss... Hope your channel grows…

      @RAZR_Channel Год назад +1

      And you have at least 1 new subscriber now... I would only add that as you grow as a channel experienced linux users will be in your viewers. Things like SNAP were brutally rejected by most. And if I didn't know better by 1st hand experience I would have been on the SNAP wagon... FireFox for me on SNAP - Sucked ( FF SNAP >10% slower) on my machine. I didn't even know about SNAP until later. I purged everything SNAP replaced it with the NON-SNAP versions. On paper/diagram SNAP is a good choice. However the real world results must also be good. So you will need to evaluate where you draw your line on when to be critical on something so that you can maintain credibility and not get agro in you comments section...

    Users have been waiting on a linux that can run windows apps without some nasty Wine rubbish... for decades. I left Zorin because it's handling of the taskbar was terrible. Instead of providing a list of all open windows, it gives you.. yuk.. thumbnails.. until you pass some kidn of threshold.. and then you get the vertical text list of open windows you want to see all along.
    Windows 10 does the same nastiness... but you can turn it off with WinAeroTweaker.

    Zorin OS is good but has a lot of downsides at the moment that are not shown in this video. It is based on the older version of Ubuntu 20.04. The Linux kernel version itself is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS GA, which in some cases causes problems. Another downside is the Gnome version, which is based on a much older version. For example, the new version of Debian 12 has a newer version of Gnome. Debian Bookworm also has a newer version of etc than ZorinOS.
    So, to sum up. Zorin OS is very behind Debian, and other distributions that have much newer versions of Gnome and applications than Zortin itself. In addition, is a friendly system for inexperienced linux users switching from, for example, Windows. Also It is a good system for people who don't care about older versions of software.

    • @timnowak8573
      @timnowak8573 Год назад

      @@joshbeeri I don't think so, Zorin 17 will probably be based on Ubuntu 22.04. So it won't be a very new version of Gnome like it is in Fedora 38, for example. They could also wait a while for the release of the new Ubuntu LTS 24.04, and then rely on this version.

      ived read that zorin wont have major update being based on older gnome..but its still linux and it still depends on the developers themselves..i mean security is given but all i hope for the zorin 17 is the adaptive modern folders,widgets,and like all linux distros,,a better app library..more stable compatability with wine and play on linux... won't ask for more..its light,its fast,its flexibly(free) and customizable..its already beatiful..my personal experience it can make your 10 yr. old potato pc upgrade ,better drivers,revives my bluetooth on 2 laptops,brightness control on grphics which windows terribly fails to do so..like i dont know whats their goal anymore..nothings almost changed..instead,microsofts is giving machine killing windows 10...💔

    • @timnowak8573
      @timnowak8573 11 месяцев назад

      @@lexinggeneral Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. Nowadays, there are many great distributions that offer similar functionality, maybe even a little better. Most distributions are also free, easy to use, fast and customizable. The appearance is a matter of taste, you can always customize it by installing custom icons, themes, cursors, etc.
      As for wine and compatibility, every Linux distribution supports it. Just not all of them have wine out of the box installed. Personally, instead of installing just wine, I use the Bottles application. Which is based on wine but is better. Also for example, a great distribution has recently appeared that makes it easier to play on Linux. So the statement that Zorin Os is special, and there are no better distributions that can offer the same or even more is wrong. It all depends on personal preferences, everyone has different ones.

    I mean I love zorin os I bought the pro version and I love it. The issue was that the laptop I was using it on was about 3 years old. However it broke so I was forced to get a new laptop this year. The issue is that zorin os 16 does not support my wifi. This is because it's based on ubuntu 20.04 which does not have the drivers for my wifi. Probably because my laptop was made this year. I have tested it and the wifi drivers do work on ubuntu 22.04. So I would have to wait for zorin os 17 based on ubuntu 22.04. Then I would be able to use the distro again. The thing about linux is thats its not very good at supporting new hardware as you have to wait a bit for the drivers to get made for your hardware. Not to mentioned I have tested this out too but my wifi only works on debian 13. Which barly just hit testing mode. Whicb means I wouldnt even be able to use debian till 2025.

    This is the most aggravating thing about Zorin, having to visual scan these horizontal thumbnails across the bottom of your screen, until you reach some arbitrary number which it switches to a much more familiar and comfortable vertical text list. OMG I loathe these thumbnails so much. And if you ALT-TAB or whateve ryou get the same nonsense but in a grid pattern, which is utterly useless to me as a blind person as I can't see images. White text on black bagrounds, yes. Images, and window image previews... NO.

    • @jockfaire

      Do you prioritize stability over cutting-edge? If yes, then Zorin and Debain should be your choices over other distros that release frequent updates

    • @Arnt91
      @Arnt91 Год назад +2

      @@jockfaire No one needs to stay in the past in order to have stability, this is a myth. This is so dated. The team behind are lazy devs, even distros created by one only person are faster to update. Get to the point Debian already had it's new version and Zorin was still stuck in the past. I'm not kidding, even ElementaryOS team that also takes longer to release a new version, released one before then, way early. This is nuts for me.

    I just tried to log into my ZOrin OS to run upgrader, and the system was completely unusable since I've changed monitors since then. There was no taskbar at all, just a window you could right click to do Settings and Display Settings and Terminal, but when you tried any of them no window would open up at all. It's been 30 years now and still.. Linux is as dwmb as h377 as it was back in the early 1990's

    You sound as though you're reading this from a Zorin OS brochure. There is basically nothing new in 16.3 other than the upgrader feature. The rest is nothing but app updates, which, if you've been updating your computer in the meantime, are already up to date anyway. What I'd be really interested in is seeing what new features are planned for the 17 release

    I've got an off topic question. I know this is sacrilegious, but I have connected my Thinkpad running Zorin to my Windows domain environment. I'm able to login using my AD account. Almost everything works fine, except for sudo. When I try running something with sudo, I get: [AD account] is not allowed to run sudo on [Laptop name]. This incident will be reported.
    As I understand it, I'm somehow supposed to add my AD account or group into a list of users allowed to run sudo. I'm unsure as to how to do this. Anyone have any suggestions?

    My problem with Gnome gui is with the idiocy having one specific folder view type throughout the entire os. It's such a deal breaker for me that I avoid anything Gnome. I like having large tile views in my pictures and most everything else a detail list. KDE Plasma just has it all. I've been driving Nobara kde plasma and damn, its good. If only I didn't update the kernel so now virtualbox fails to install any linux guest, which is lame. Everything else is pretty amazing, such as playing gta5 smoother than windows, wow. Yes, I have issues from time to tome however, for such a small group of developers this is noteworthy.

    Apparently a lot of distros now suffer from a problem with intalling on old Macbooks or Atom based hardware, the hardware supports 64 bit architecture BUT REQUIRE 32 bit EFI bootloader and it also appears that it must be too much trouble to even offer a completely 32 bit iso in leu of an option for 64 bit with 32 bit installer

I'm an Amateur radio operator (Ham) I run Linux focal OS built for Hams I was at the Microsoft website and got a DDoS on my computer which said it was locked, I simply power the computer down waited a few minutes rebooted no problems the computer came back on so the story about Linux is true it's safe from these types of attacks. I also run Manjaro Linux on another computer with no problems.

    Looks good.. I HATE gnome-- but this kinda overcomes that... I think I'll give it a try-- (now- so no one gets their knickers in a twist-- NOTHING against gnome- I just can't adjust it to my work-- I"ve tried- and end up all clogged and screwed up-- NOTHING against the software at all-- as I DO like the look etc.) but this ELLIMINATES that issue. I want to try this and can use the snaps to install ANBOX and maybe even set up my security cam system on it via android app. THANKS-- GREAT REVIEW... (I'm thinking about your course too)
