If you liked this and you want to learn more about writing songs, I have just the course for you - Complete Rock and Metal Songwriting: bit.ly/METALLICASONGWRITING
Oh hell really I'm still trying to learn to Gallup properly without muting any notes...
I know it's for the sake of making a song in one day but this would've been a REAL BANGER if roughened up the "edges" a bit 🤔
Release this on spotify man!
Hey dude I wrote a song and it's really good. I'm a vocalist. If you play the guitar parts and produce the song we can split it. I think your the right fit.
@@oharryc yes he is the shizzznick!! I'm thinking like dude. We need to get together, and get this guy's name out peeps.. if I can get you a couple dates on the calendar for Lubbock Texas would you come to play? Hell I go down to our metal zone and at least ask all they can do is say no let him hear what you're all about..
This was cool, it honestly kind of sounded like 90s Metallica and 90s Megadeth made a song and Im not mad about it.
I’ll take it!
I meant not MAD about it
For real this was the most Metallica song to come out of the last 20 years. Loved this. Paid tribute without making fun of them.
@@bklounge231 death magnetic was a good album. hardwired was pretty decent too. sound quality sucks on d.m. but the songs were good. hopefully they kept the master tapes so they can remaster it one day. but yeah this track here was good. prob as close to the real thing you can get. edit: just realized death magnetic came out 14yrs ago, doesn't seem like it's been that long. fuck i'm getting old. can still remember when ..and justice for all came out.
I'm hearing a little bit of the '90s Megadeth, but not too much '90s from Metallica, mostly AJFA from the fast main riffs and Death Magnetic and HTSD from the vocal harmonies, drums, and composition.
The rythym is like justice. The style is like death magnetic. The tone is like master of puppets. The vocals are like hardwired. Really cool.
I thought the guitar tone was more Justice For All… lol.
For some reason, it's SOOO Death Magnetic, I can't put a finger on why
The style is St.Anger
Great work Trey!
MY MAN LEO
Say, gentledudes. The metalist thing I have ever prophesied is ANOTHER, EVEN METALER Gear Frog Leap Gods collaboration. This thing will be so metal, so heavy, SO heavy metal it will rain liquid titanium polly-metal alloy RAIN so heavy it shall crack the Pillars of Eternity. Nay, knaves! *index finger wag*
It will recreate the Foundation of Creation itsse'f!
@@JeyGore actually we've already done it a couple times hahaha
I literally just dropped my job midsentence. See. Research. Research. Also, I need to now make my aforementioned prophesied prediction technically sound. Thank yah bruddah. Work, pfft. These musics, jessir.
I'm pretty sure Metallica is really bummed out, that they didn't write Prisoner of Apathy. It would have been an instant classic if it was a Metallica song.
Metallica should cover it.
I think out of all of them Lars is the most disappointed. Those quick fills are outside of his wheelhouse.
Could actually be a song from Hardwired. Would be cool if they got to see this.
If enough people tweet it at them I bet they’ll see it!
sounds more like death magnetic to me
but the clean part sounds more like hardwire
edit: I've came to a conclusion. it sounds like beyond magnetic
EXACTLY!!! I Thought the exact same
i literally came here to say this
I hope someone wake them up with this link to this guideline them to write their own songs again
when I heard your attempt of james, I was blown away dude, this freakin rocks, 10 out of 10, new subscriber here
Thanks dawg
Best Metallica song I've heard in years
To me it feels like a combination of Hardwired, Death Magnetic and Justice. Love it btw
100% agree.
And a bit of mop
With Dave's Youthanasia vocals... hell yeah.
@@BillPenny 😩
I agree the guitars, the bass, and the drums sound very much like Death Magnetic and the vocals sound very much like Hardwired with some bits of Justice.
This sounds like the Beyond Magnetic lost song; the lyrics and clean sections, the last solo and singing style. The harmonies sounds more like A7X thou. Amazing Job! :D
So true for A7X!!
A7X and Metallica are pretty much the same band lol☺️
Your voice was the cadence of Hetfield and the pitch of Mustaine to my ears, awesome job all around, and I could here the Bass.
Yah it was a bit Mustainey
The pitch of Mustaine??? That's just about another step below Mustaine's usual key
it's like Hetfield and Mustaine had a baby. 🤘
I was just thinking the same thing. Like a cross between Hetfield and Mustaine and A7X harmonies. I thought it was awesome!
I thought exactly the same thing.
I can't state enough how incredible this actually is. You are insanely talented my friend, i really hope Metallica sees this and posts it somewhere. People NEED to hear it!
As a fan of Metallica who has also studied their music in depth and attempted to play along since they first hit my local record store in the 80's, I feel that I must let you know where you went wrong with this song - it ended.
There’s another mistake. Playing “THE RIFF” in 4/4 timing
Hit the nail on the head. That's the only thing you did wrong in that whole song.he stopped playing..
But if it didn't end it couldn't have had a metallica outro.
Also I kinda feel like the verse was too much load, idk I don't really like load this song 4 sure slaps infact to the point that I don't even mind the verses anymore
Imagine studying kirks solos "oh hes using e minor pentatonic, 2 notes per string, with. Sloppy run down the high string" moves onto another Kirk solo "oh look e minor pentatonic with a sloppy fast run down the high e but this time with wah" haha 😄 😅 if you're studying James you'll probably learn something but I wouldn't waste too much time studying Kirk's leads at all they're very basic and uninspired especially compared to how good and technical the riffs can be then you get hit with these extremely musically basic solos. Lol just seems like a joke to me im sorrt
Dude! You just outdid Metallica! Hot damn. I guarantee they either heard it or will hear this and agree that you killed it! Best video you’ve ever done! I really enjoyed it. I can see a series …
Hot damn man!
god damn this track SLAPS. amazing work dude
Ho-ly crap! That song...was....freaking awesome. Best song Metallica never wrote. Well done!
What do you think? Did I nail the Metallica sound and style?
Better than the real !!!!
You really did, bravo.
Hell yeah!
The Beavis callback made me spit my drink out. Bravo 👏
Yes!!!
I don't often comment on videos, but as a Metallica fan for 20 years, this was amazing.
That was awesome! Only thing I'd change would be the drums. Your drummer nailed the song, of course. But it was missing Lars's odd off-time crash hits.
....aaaand there it is, LOL....I was wondering how long it would take before a comment on that line popped up. 🤣
This is very true my drummer buddy/band mate is heavily if not completely influenced by lars. And I think he'd say the same haha.
fills were too tight for Lars, they need sound like you just crawled into the studio hungover from a long night at the strip club (see black album documentary LOL)
Absolutely awesome.
We demand an album in the style of metallica!
As a 49 yrs dude. And Metallica fan... I cry.
Metallica need to hire you as a writing partner and Will Putney to produce the next album (listen to the Downbeat podcast guys!), then they’ll have the biggest fucking hit on their hands since AJFA 👌🏻🤟🏻
I will take that gig
Agreed!
It would do them good instead of surrounding themselves with yes-men like Fiedelman.
Man, this is AWESOME! Sounds like something off AJFA but with audible bass
I want this to be a Metallica song and want James to sing on it!!!! Why do you have to be so good Trey? Stop it! Lol
I love it. That solo sounded exactly like something Kirk would write. The solo at 17:51 sounds like something Hetfield would write too. Vocals were awesome. Guitar harmonies were well put. Bass was huge. Insanely talented man 👏🏽 Would’ve been cool to hear a JC-120 tone for them cleans, but I still loved it!
Dude you nailed it this song is a banger! Congratulations on writing this. The riffs remind off the 90's trash metal. I especially liked the harmonies parts and solos.
I am a life long metallica fan and when the main riff kicked in I got chills and very emotional. Fucking amazing work spot on
Holy crap this song is really good. This is the best Metallica song I've heard in a long time and I'm a freaking die-hard Metallica fan. Damn this is good! Prisoner of Apathy! \m/
Wow! totally nailed it. If I heard this song on the radio, I would totally think it was Metallica.
Nah, the drums is too good.
4/4, wah pedal, fast pentatonic licks, e minor, 3-2-0 on low e string, a lot of Yeahhhhhhhhs
Proof that bands like metallica in their 80s/90s can still exist🤟
James Hetfield is looking kinda different nowadays... 🤔🤔🤔
Dude this guy is extremely underrated, content like this ought to get millions of views
Nailed it! There were some nice "Yeah-ya"s in there, but I would have enjoyed an "OOOOH" or two.
This inspired me to pick up my guitar and write a new song for my band - when i needed it the most. Thank you, really. Respect and take care, brother.
You absolutely nailed it Trey. The Trujillo stance, harmonized guitar solo, lots of yeahs, evil laughs, the Battery beat, the whole step modulation, gallopy riffs, all on point. Well done! /,,/
As a huge metallica and Kirk fan in general, that solo sounds like it's of his list phone from hardwired 🤔 great take on their style!
Absolutely spectacular, Metallica will be proud. Great song and great video!!!!!
thanks Rezo
Trey should have 5 million subs. Top quality content and delivery. He's a great teacher.
verse vocals are so Mustaine that 90s Metallica would be angry with you calling it their song :)))
Not a Metallica song since you don’t say, “Die” or “Death”, even once…☠️
Plus, there are no noticeable cymbal crashes on the snare…☠️
Hey this kinda sounds like metallica
Dude, this is beyond amazing. When you came in with Hetfield vox.. my jaw dropped. A+
One of the best Metallica songs I’ve ever heard, and it’s not even a real one haha
This song is amazing, and so is your guitar playing 🤘🏻🤘🏻⚡️⚡️
YEAH on point
baena pls
Wow dude. This tune is amazing. I do love old school Metallica, i do also love 90's Metallica too. You nailed this song aswell. I do hope Metallica have watched this too.
A master class in Metallic'isms 🤘🏻😸🤘🏻 Absolutely inspired!
Can you make a video of How to Write a Breaking Benjamin Song?
This is SO good! Nailed every Metallica signature move! 🙌👊🏻💪🏼
The song Metallica wish they'd written...🤘😄 nice.
That breakdown towards the end though....🤘🤘🔥🔥
Thank you!
@@treyxaviermusic no man. Thank you. Been watching for awhile. Some of it sinks in. Seriously. Appreciate what you do.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was absolutely great. Spot on. I'm a huge Metallica fan. They did so much for me growing up. I am blown away by this. Great job man.
I can really feel the love and respect that you have for the tallica guys here. We all share that. I love the breakdown of their method. Gave me the nostalgia warm and fuzzies. Great song to boot. Should be proud! (props for that added extra beat in that riff btw!)
This was excellent!! I honestly think you can’t get more Metallica than that song🎶 I feel if this song was playing in some public space back when there was no Shazam, you could justify this being a single or a teaser to the new Metallica record. Great work!🔥🤘🏾🔥🤘🏾🔥🤘🏾
Haha, that was fucking class.... The song writing course is brilliant too.
Ojalá que James Hetfield vea este tutorial y él recuerde cómo hacer buenos riffs.
Honestly, it sounds like it could've been on their last album. Except for the vocals. You sound like if Dave Mustaine got a vocal coach.
yeah I have more nasal in my voice than I know what to do with hahaha
Oh man, I enjoyed the shit outta this! AWESOME song, absolutely loved it. Your Hetfield vocals are on point!
Definitely a great start and has all the Metallica feels. I think if the band took this they'd end up in a different place with some of the lyrics, ad-libs, and probably move it to a more recent phrasing of the instrumentation. All that said, it was thoroughly enjoyable. The "prisoner of apathy" theme is brilliant and feels like an anthem whose time has come.
You nailed it!! It sounds like 10's Thrash! It could be on the new Metallica Record's for sure!
Remember Iron Maiden? The ORIGINAL galloping metal cowboys! Cool video, Trey! Thanks bro.
EDIT: DAYUM!!! I closed my eyes and kinda heard Metallica. Great fucking job, Trey!!
First Avenged sevenfold vibes, then Metallica and then Megadeth... It's curious because Avenged Sevenfold is inspired by Metallica a lot, and Megadeth is like Metallica's young brother...
Your Rob impression was on point.
Hmm, change key for solo, quieter breakdown, wah for the solo, harmonised sections, do you think Metallica like Maiden?! Stunning work Trey!
This was great Trey. Absolutely nailed the Metallica sound while still producing and original song. I was definitely head banging in my office.
If James had sung on it, every Metallica Fan would have accepted this as a new Metallica Song, insane Work 🔥
Holy fucking smoking shitballs, batman!!! That was absofuckinglutely perfect!! It's a brand new song, not even done by them, yet the entire track made me feel nostalgic as fuck! You truly captured the essence of everything Metallica. I am blown the fuck away!!!!!!!!
Awesome...but...for a more authentic Metallica sound you should have hire a shitty drummer (or Lars, he will do anything for money). But awesome job, the song is kickass :)
Wow 🤘🏼😍 respect man! Really solid composition!!! Very nice! I enjoyed it a lot … i must say your vocals sound more like mustaine … hahaha
Hello me
@@treyxaviermusic Meet the real me!
Modern Metallica if mustain stayed
NAILED IT!! In the early 90`s i became a metalhead because of Metallica and im still a fan! If the guys from Metallica see and hear this song, they wat to put it on their next album for sure! Well done Trey, cheers!!
Late to the game in seeing this but stumbled across your channel and glad I did. That was superb. Took be right back to the 90's !!
Only thing missing was random kick drum flams. This could have been a cut song from one of the last 2 albums for sure.
Also, not nearly enough chewing-on-protruding-tongue for me. 😏
Great sound. Slips in and out of Avenged Sevenfold and Newer Metallica.
Only drums are actually good (Lars)
Theyre one of the biggest metal bands ever for a reason...also, this kicks ass Trey.
That fucken lyric, “always need to justify, you can never just be” came straight out of Hetfield’s brain.
Better than Metallica !!!!
damn that's a compliment!
@@treyxaviermusic It is only the truth ! 😁
I swear... You got the Robert Trujillo bass stance down pat. lol
He must have VERY strong legs, it’s soooooo hard to do hahaha
Been listening to Metallica since 86. Nail, hammer, head. Impressive as always Trey.
This sounds like if megadeth, metallica and dragonforce had a baby
This couldn't be more Metallica even if Metallica played it. Well done Sir.
Edit: That fuckin Trujillo crawl....awesome.
Holy shit, you're such an amazing musician and also entertaining as f***! I'm in love with these "how x writes a song" videos
14:00
Just thought I’d slap down where the song starts for those of you who wanna replay or skip the whole process. I advise watching the entire video though, because he did well to make the first 14 minutes not even feel that long. It’s also interesting hearing his thought process going into the song
excellent song! 10/10
I'd have chosen the Justice era.. just to save myself from recording the bass line.
Your riff @1:12 is pure Overkill. "Listen to more Overkill." Load and ReLoad are exceptionally fantastic. I'm 51. Been with the band since the "No Life" copies from the tape-trade section of Maximumrocknroll. Killer, as always, Trey. 🤜
Really?load and reload and saint anger "sucked "each album has like two good songs besides anger. And that album I stopped buying any Metallica stuff 🤘until magnetic. But I have to agree .. bleeding me rocked ..
a shear masterpiece..
The ONLY problem I have with that riff is that I've heard it before (Ride the Cashpoint :P) so the song didn't sound originally enough as should've been
You did too good of a job. Expect to hear from their lawyers 😅. That was awesome tho. Had a Testament vibe also
Incredible work. I think (if they haven't already) Metallica need to take a look at this. I'd love to hear their thoughts!
Lars: we have our single for the next album ;p
The fucked up part isn't just that it's actually good, it's that it pretty much *IS* a Metallica song!
Awesome job! Best Metallica song since the Black album! Vocals sounded like a perfect mix between Ripper Owens and James Hetfield!
did kirk get fired lmao that first solo was too good.
Beautiful fuckin job tho. Sounds like a masterpiece never released cover
Dude, thank you for that! As most people here will be, I'm a lifelong Metallica fan and have listened to, learned to play and been to as many of there shows as possible and that was an absolute effing banger! Great video and great song!
Since your not James, or in Metallica, I think you hit that one out of the park dude! Faq'n rad!
That was awesome! I like the breakdown and planning share up front a lot too. Keep up the good work and rock on!🤘
Love that you got Rob’s signature crab walk in there! 🦀🦀🦀
I bet a lot of time went into this and I very much enjoyed. Thanks. Great original and inspired song! 👏
You sound absolutely nothing like Hetfield. More Mustaine than anything.
Proof that you don't need 10 string guitars in drop z to make a good song, just good songwriting.
😭🤣🤣🤣 thank fucking god someone said it . I been over here thinking I prob can’t start a metal band unless I decide to get a 7 string .
All attention. In my opinion what you have created here is the best Metallica song of the past few years! Congrats and rock on \m/
Trey....I have been extremely impressed with your ability to nail these bands at the core. Your "main riff" here is as Metallica as Papa James has ever been. Somewhere between Puppies and Justoast when they were in the prime. Keep it coming!!
Then this vid gets copyright infringement from Metallica 😂🤣
12/10 excellent stuff, made me feel like I was 13 and hearing Metallica for the first time all over again. Make it avaliable so we can listen to it more! (Also when is the Invirtue album coming out!?)
