you forgot that JFK also has the AirTrain to Howard Beach for the (A) Train and also to Jamaica Center to (E) (J) & (Z) Trains and LIRR (Long Island Railroad) to Manhattan, it pays living in NYC since 2002
Almost three years after we still did not get the episode about the greater New York area. We have not forgotten Alex. I'm already *looking for my pitchfork* again.

I live here, this is what we do; land at LGA, go outside, find the machine, buy a metrocard---in front of machine the Q70 bus comes, you go to the 7 Train in 10 minutes---enter 7 station, swipe the same card for free transfer, go up stairs to 7. Get on to Manhattan, arrive in 30 minutes. The 7 goes under East River tunnel, you come up under 42nd street. The third stop in is Times Square. All for $ 2.75. The 7 is the most ethnically mixed ride in the world, enjoy the languages.
Anna Gibbons the bus is the same fare. if you get on the subway first and then get out and need to take a bus, it's a transfer and aren't charged. The same from bus to subway. However, any more additional rides, after the transfer, you will be charged again the $2.75.
LOVE how you showed where you were on the map -- so often other vloggers show areas like Chelsea, Soho, the Lower East Side, the Upper West Side, etc., but we non-New Yorkers like to be able to actually pinpoint where the subject area is on the map of NYC!! Helps us New York-o-philes a LOT!! Love the information you share here, extremely helpful, thank you!

I’m blessed to have born and raised in the boroughs before I moved out to Long Island in the middle of my childhood. Still love going in. I can drive into Long Island City in about 40 minutes in good traffic, jump on the 7 line and be in Times Square in about 10 minutes. Absolutely love NYC!
Thank you! That was bugging me too. Not only Manhattan but all 5 boroughs. I have seen drivers from out of state get out of their cars to try to stop pedestrians so they can turn right on red. One of the biggest dangers to cyclists in NYC.
Tf are you talking about yes we are allowed to turn on red. But we don’t because we can’t the pedestrian has the right a way. But we’re allow to turn on red.

Love the longer video! You are just plain entertaining. First time to NY, my family and I road the subway and it was fine. Pretty easy to follow. I was just waiting for you to eat that pizza!
Alex - I work in the travel industry in New Zealand and have been recommending your site to friends and colleagues. You are entertaining, informative and the video is really well presented. Many thanks for putting this all together!
Ive been to New York so many times and there is so much of the City ive yet to explore. you've touched on basically what ive already done but there was still so much helpful information. There is a certain magic about New York.
Come to New York in winter times, preferably around Christmas time to experience New York at its best. Summertime can really be disgusting and frustrating.
Cara Carr Yea it is awful during Summer times. I live in NYC and i always look forward to winter time. During winter time you get this romantic NYC feel, when everyone is dressed up in beautiful coats, when the streets are cozy, the lights are warming and the atmosphere just right. You would see lights shows, window displays, and ice skating!
Went last year in October 2016 and I'm going again next month. I had a great time seeing all touristy stuff last year, but this is great to know some of the lesser known stuff for when I go again. The city is fantastic, even on a crummy day as you said. It rained every day I was there until the day I left and I still had a blast. Thanks for all the good suggestions and advice about the city!
Great video, thank you. I'm a fan of your helpful points of view and glad you've made it to my home city. I have a correction: no right on red, ever. In all 5 boroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island) drivers are not allowed to turn right during a red light. (That doesn't mean it's strictly enforced.) And if you're walking all bets are off. Fellow fans and NYC travelers: Johnny T's NYC Tourist Tips is also a helpful video. The advice in it is spot on from us who live here. Kindly keep out of the way of the steady flow of foot traffic, especially during rush hour. My recommendations: Central Park is a must. The corner of East 59th Street & 5th Avenue is one of the best crossroads in the world. It's the horse-and-carriage corner of the park, across the street is the Plaza hotel, catty corner is the Apple Store (the one that is a glass cube). To the north on 5th Avenue, you have Museum Mile with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Guggenheim, and many others. To the south on 5th Avenue, you have Tiffany's, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and Rockefeller Center. Do not rent a car here. First of all, you're going to get killed in rental and parking charges (plus tax). Secondly, the average is 6.5 mph (10.4 km/h) driving in Manhattan. Use your smart phone to get subway directions, or just walk. Enjoy and Thank you
In some areas you can make a right turn at a red light if it is posted that you can do so.. But he made it seem that a right turn can be made at every red light and that`s certainly not the case!
This is a wonderful guide!! I live in rural America and the thought of traveling to such a huge city is overwhelming. But while it may seem mundane just telling us about metro cards, where to buy them and the average costs of transportation. That is something amazingly helpful for someone who has never had anything but their own car to jump into and cruise a good 80 miles to reach the nearest JCPenny's LOL!
It's actually more expensive and much more of a hassle having a car in NYC than do just walk/take the train. I actually prefer a city where a car isn't necessarily needed.
THE best video I have ever seen on visiting New York! Me and my partner will be there in September, for the first time. You have given me some great tips, thank you!
@@jenniferlorence185 it was awesome. I was there last year and I've had the time of my life. I've had so much fun, I hope I can go back one day. Truly an incredible city.
I'm going to Amsterdam in a few weeks and just watched that video. I live in NYC, I watched this video to see how accurate you were. A couple of minor errors but, overall, good job. You just got a new subscriber.
Thanks for a great show. Took a vacation to NY and had a great time, and were quite ready to go explore the big city after watching this video more then a few times 😂 we mixed it a little up with turisty stuff a lot of walking around to find the small places. Keep the videos comming. Love from Denmark
I'm visiting New York next year and I'm so excited! Wish you had talked about the different seasons and more places to shop. But is a very good episode! Thanks for the amazing work! 👏🏼👏🏼
DON'T FORGET that NYC is not only Manhattan , you have Queens , Brooklyn , Bronx , Staten Island . And there are many things to see in these boroughs also , especially Brooklyn and Queens.
I cannot believe that as much as I travel to NYC, I just now found this video! It's so great! I love that the first time you smile is when you say "ass."
I guess this video is around a year old so... whoops on my part. But I just have to let people know of bagels with lox since you didn't mention it. If you're at a bagel shop seriously consider it, every shop will have it. It's more substantial than a bagel for breakfast and it's really more of a sandwich. For me it's the best way to get a bagel, hands down. Lox is salmon, and when served on a bagel should come with cream cheese, capers, and red onion at a minimum. It might sound odd if you haven't had fish dairy and capers in one place, but I promise it's amazing. A quintessential NYC staple.
I grew up in NYC, I love this place. I now live in upstate NY, beautiful! New York State is huge. Come and enjoy the city but include NYS in your trip. Mountains, trees, lakes, rivers, quaint towns and so much to do!
Thanks for sharing, we do gopro walk through's mainly in Europe, so it's great to see others guiding us through places we may never get to see. Thank you, I enjoyed walking around with you and have subscribed.
My wife and I are going to NYC in August (our first trip, although I went there so far back (without proper resources) it doesn't really count) and then in September we're going back to Mexico City for a second time, after enjoying a week there over the holidays 2017/2018. I expect both cities to have pluses and minuses. We're from the Los Angeles area, so we have that as a lifelong benchmark, both good and bad. I will be particularly interested in two things, since culture and food are wonderful in both places (and, yes, Californians largely do NOT know what good pizza tastes like): 1. Convenience of public transportation and 2. Cost-per-benefit ratio. My own personal experience with public trans (largely the metro/subway system) for Los Angeles is F, for Chicago it's a B, and for CDMX, Buenos Aires and Santiago, Chile it's an A. Plus, in Mexico City, you can go ANYWHERE for five or six pesos! That's 25 to 30 cents, USD. Simple, affordable, and it gets around a city which probably is slightly bigger than NYC. The other thing is food. Quality of food is probably equal (as a Californian, I am absolutely DYING to try authentic NY pizza (having a taste for it in Connecticut/Mass./Upstate NY). But so far, my favorite food in all the world is CDMX genuine street/sidewalk food. There is no froo-froo involved: fresh ingredients, purchased at a nearby market, no preservatives, no tricks, no hidden ingredients, all prepared while you watch (and not too long!), friendly neighbors offering a chair or a tip, and a genuine, almost family atmosphere, for ALWAYS less than $5, usually even less. It's hard to beat, and it's addictive. Who knew you could do so much with fresh produce and a little fresh chicken, pork or beef? Still, I am excited by our late-summer visit to NYC and exploring just a few of its highlights (we will have tix to a game at Yankee Stadium), but especially the off-the-beaten track places, like we did in CDMX and Buenos Aires. We find that back streets are the places where you really discover the culture and the people. Geez. I'm long-winded about this. Sorry.
I highly respect the way you present information. I have watched a few of your videos. Thanks to you, I made a trip to Budapest. Thank you for giving us insightful information and for the great quality videos.
@3.1M views Yes you tip, that;s how it works in New York. You also get great service for the most part. Considering 90% of all restaurants go out of business there first year, don't question tipping, if you can not afford it, fast food is a good option.
@@schoolnyc That's a stupid mentallity... Tipping shouldn't be mandatory, like others said, that's a way for greedy employers to stack more money. Shameful.
Telling the taxi driver to take you to Avenue of Americas is the best way to mark yourself out as a non-New Yorker. And you aren't allowed to turn right on a red light in NYC (unless there is a sign that says that you are allowed to do so).
Good tip with the train stations this is the most confusing with getting the correct line...Greatest city in the world, been a couple times this year and going again this month!
As a native New Yorker, born and raised in the city "Manhattan," I thought this was a pretty good introductory video however the segment about pizza made me nauseous. Once he said he's from New Jersey and so on, it was hard to continue. Here's a tip - Want a good slice checkout Patsy's in Harlem, Rizzo's downtown, or John's on Bleecker.
I went to New York in the summer and I agree with certain people that the climate is kind of gross with it being super humid and not to mention polluted, and this is coming from someone who is from in and outside London which also has a very polluted and humid climate. New York however was on a whole other level during the summer. That being said, I think it is worth making a trip in the summer just to go to Coney Island in Brooklyn. I think it's worth experiencing New York in both the summer and the winter.
lived in vancouver 2 years very overated and very very expensive and its a ratrace, nice scenery, but whenever i wanted to go enjoy the beuty ,40,000 other people had the sme plans

Just one small correction: cars actually are not allowed to turn right on a red light in NYC
IT MAKES ABSOLUTE SENSE IN SUCH A BIG CITY. In Eugene, Ore. you can turn left on a red light on a one way street and right on red when safe.
Thank you! That was bugging me too. Not only Manhattan but all 5 boroughs. I have seen drivers from out of state get out of their cars to try to stop pedestrians so they can turn right on red. One of the biggest dangers to cyclists in NYC.

I grew up in NYC, I love this place. I now live in upstate NY, beautiful! New York State is huge. Come and enjoy the city but include NYS in your trip. Mountains, trees, lakes, rivers, quaint towns and so much to do!
That was an awesome guide guys!
Thanks!

Sorry.
Watching old episode, BUT your show is amazing!, thanks!. Planning to go to NYC soon.
that intro. so fire
Hello, Attache sounds like a good conversation and good eating.
Gentleman whenever you do the Queens episode, hit me up.
I'll show you what a real deli, pizza, and NY experience is.
I've lived there for 6 years and I believe Fall is the best time to visit NYC!
Useful information. Will get there someday
It's a wonderful city, one of my favourites.
I highly respect the way you present information. I have watched a few of your videos. Thanks to you, I made a trip to Budapest. Thank you for giving us insightful information and for the great quality videos.
Tipping it is a way that the employer has found not to pay correctly the employes. But to put the burden to the client!
They'd just raise the prices if they had to pay minimum wage per hour to restaurant staff. This way, more goes to the staff and less to the owner.
Shameful.
If I don't want to tip, I will not. I don't want anyone forcing me to do so, I don't care if it is your 'culture' or not.
that is the only way they can make good money // actual wage is low for them
Grew up in NY. This is a great (quick) guide. Well done.
Telling the taxi driver to take you to Avenue of Americas is the best way to mark yourself out as a non-New Yorker. And you aren't allowed to turn right on a red light in NYC (unless there is a sign that says that you are allowed to do so).
Yeah I winced when I said Avenue of the Americas.
The red light rule doesn't seem to stop taxi drivers lol.
Avenue of the Americas=6th Ave
Its 6th Ave or no Ave lmao
One of the best travel blogger. keep doing what you'll do
awesome video!
Thanks!
One of the best NYC guides, hands down!
THe most amazing city in t he world! It would take you a life time to see everything in this city. Maybe not even in a lifetime.
2020, I found your video, I was ecstatic to hear you mention the Cambria in Chelsea , the hotel I chose, I hope it was a sincere shout out.
8:13 This is wrong...Right turn on Red signal is illegal in all 5 Boros of New York City. It's also strictly enforced.
My man...speaks truth
Superb video both useful & informative , I'm looking to visit NYC for the first time soon from the Uk
I think it's worth experiencing New York in both the summer and the winter.
lwotton94 Never visit NYC in the summer or winter. The weather is horrible. Best time is Fall . The weather is gorgeous
I love your tipping PSA! Preach!
Why should I tipp? The waiteress can tipp me for giving her the chance to serve me
