Day 2 - Rattlesnake and Blow downs
Got a good night sleep, left camp a little after 6 and took a breakfast break after about 5 miles. Then we had a 2.8 mile climb, encountered a diamond back rattlesnake (almost stepped on it) and a few miles of blow downs. Those combined with the uphill slowed us extremely down. Had lunch at a water source and wanted to hike another 4 miles but didn’t make it that far. We were too tired and exhausted and had not enough water left. So we made camp. Challenging day.

All those dead trees- from the fires that stopped your trip 2 years ago? We recently visited Big Basin (redwood park in Calif.) after their huge fire a couple years ago. Interesting to see how the forest and flowers come back!
I‘m not sure from what fire that was, but it‘s sad to see ☹️
