Agreed, very dumb rule and doesn’t even take up much time throwing the ball around the field.
I don't know whether its a good rule or not but when the last game ends at 3 am in the morning you can understand why they try to make rules to speed things up.

Softball standard fields are 300 feet. Baseball fields make for great tournaments but they are hard tournaments set up on them.
