    Follow along as I show you how to set up a survey on Qualtrics for this study!!! It's super interesting and I didn't even know Qualtrics could do this...

    I can't believe this content is available for free. This is the best resource for people starting out!

    Finally i found a quality source! Pls keep going, we need and support you :) And i wonder, what do you think about future of ux research ?

      Thank you!!! 🙏 That's a great question, maybe I'll make a video for that!
      In short, I think in the next couple years, it's going to grow and become more recognized. More companies are starting to get it now and it's difficult to automate the qualitative analysis process, so I think this job will be around for a while :) Anything that does with human psychology is super important. Besides, UX research is just a term for product research, but research itself has been around forever!

    Hi Kevin, thank you for all your wonderful ux videos. I was wondering how you go about deciding what ux methods to use in your studies. Why did you choose a hot spot survey vs. something else? Is it possible to do a video on ux design and thinking through a project and providing a rationale for it. I was going to have people complete both the Ctrl and trt ballots and run stats to determine if one received significantly more votes vs other. Is this incorrect? How do we think through designs if we are just starting out and don't have enough knowledge of the different methods that are out there ?

      When I think about the methods, I usually start with the problem and research question. I'd obviously eliminate ones that will not capture what I want, and it's not really about the "right" method - it's really about the optimal best method or a combination of methods that will help you.
      There is a cool chart made from folks at UX Planet you can check out: overflow.io/s/E42BS4/
      I think it's oversimplified and is missing some methods like surveys (HUGE miss on their part), but it can help you understand how we think about methods - we go through a lot of "IF this THEN that" and balance the pros and cons of different methods with timeline and limitations.
      Why I chose hot spot - it's mainly so I can track where they click. The core method here is still a survey (but the hot spot tool makes it easier for me). Since it's remote, I can't tell where they click, and the images aren't clickable right now. One could potentially make it a prototype with clickable hot spots, though. And I did between-subjects with an ideally large number because you can see the voting rates without any contamination between the groups.
      Your method sounds like within-subjects and works just fine! Simply make sure to counterbalance the order in which your participants see them. Think about how many people you'll do this with. And what stats are you going to run?

    What would be a good background job and how can I get research experience?

    Hey Kevin in your workplace are there a lot of people with bachelors in sociology? and also how often do you use quantitative research methods in your research designs?

    • @zerotoux
      @zerotoux  4 года назад +1

      I wouldn't say there's a LOT. Most of them have Master's and PhDs actually.
      I do have a friend who has a bachelor's in Psychology and is the Lead UXR at another company. I myself worked for 3 years before getting a Master's.
      I would focus on getting an internship if you're still in school, or rack up as much applicable research experience as possible.
      Quant methods I use from time to time depending on the research needs. As a mainly qual person I don't find myself doing quant that much though!

    So Kevin what was the reason why you decided to get your masters degree? because you mention in your past video you said that we do not need a masters degree to get into ux research?

    • @zerotoux
      @zerotoux  4 года назад

      Yeah it was a tough decision because of finances. But there is a lot more competition these days. I will still stand by my original word that you do not need one for UX research as long as you can show value and skills. There are still many jobs whose requirements are just bachelor's

      @@zerotoux Ok got it Kevin, I guess I don't have to worry about getting my masters then.

    Did you use an individual license for qualtrics? How much does a qualtrics subscription cost hard to find information about online.

    • @zerotoux
      @zerotoux  4 года назад +2

      No I had a group license. Yes I agree it's hard to find info, you have to call them I think.
      It's not free so the hotspot feature will be hard to get from other free tools.

      Kevin Liang thanks for the info! Looks like I’ll have to use some creativity and google forms if I mimic this exact study.

    the hot spot question type can not be selected, are we must pay first to be able?

      sorry for getting back so late!! Yes, it's not a free feature on Qualtrics
