I agree that there was a miscommunication but I don’t think they were close minded. Quite the contrary I thought. I think they were trying to explain why things are not as straightforward as they seem. Players don’t see the whole pictures.
As for the skill twig, I think the tempering system is the Advanced Skill Tree.
As for map overlay, No Rest for the Wicked has the same thing. No overlay.

Not trying to be mean here JCurve. But pushovers like you is why they can get away with it. Did you enjoy season 3 and think it is great content? Most likely not, because most people hated it. Now you start doubting your own opinion on the game, because they talked about opportunity cost or some other nonsense? Come on, man. They are fucking up and need to listen more to the community. Itemization is a start AND it only happened because they were getting a shitstorm. Players need to keep calling out their BS, so the game can become better

@@JCurveEffect Yeah, Season 4. But imo their attitude is just wrong. Noone cares about their game developer perspective. If that perspective worked, they would have had decent itemization at launch, before season 1. They are changing so much in S4, because they messed up big time. But they still talk like they know everything so much better and disregard the communities ideas way too easily. my 2 cents in case any blizz employee happens to read it: Your best, most fun and most replayable game is hearthstone. And thats because there are endless different game mods. Do not overdesign and do not try to perfect a single aspect of gameplay. Use the 80/20 rule. Make gameplay aspects 80% perfect, but switch them around more often. You will never have 100% balance. Why not embrace it and make a lot of fun madness instead. Release 20 broken uniques for a week or 2. Then nerf them afterwards. Make PvP 5v5 events with zero cooldown on skills or something insane like that. Drop unbeatable lvl 1000 uber tomblord on the world map for 2-3 weeks for people to try and cheese him to death. In hearthstone most people come back because of tavern brawl, new battleground mods, etc. Not because they play standard and enjoy the thought out balance.

  • @Viettzz

I agree with you here, especially about Adam J. Adam put too much focus / efforts on game design philosophy or structures, instead of creativity. It all comes down to how long ppl will play the game and is it fun to play. It doesn't matter if the game has a really good design structures, but if ppl don't like it or don't want to play the game, then it's not a good design.

To be hoenst maybe not the only one but not many of us will agree. As for the first point and Raxx's math, there is a kappa point to make, creating more exibits which will have the same impact is a negative value of the resources that you use.
Also this is arpg game not moba and making everything easier destroys the point of playing completely. Casual player means someone who can play effectively not low skilled noob who loves to cry as those people are not the target group of anything except self-pity.

In regards to the map overlay, I have come to like the decision to not have one. I like not constantly having extra "stuff" on the screen, and would rather see "the game". However, I do think they could make the minimap more useful (zoom it out a bit), so that there isn't such a constant need to tab into the full map.
The skill system needs an entire revamp, honestly, from the tree to the paragon board to the glyph system to the resource management system and cooldowns to the aspect system. It is all bad. The "ideas" behind them are fine, but the implementation is abysmal.
Aspects need to be more "universal" for any class. The aspects that are skill specific should all be on the tree itself.
There should be more options for skills themselves, as well as ways to customize each skill to how you want to use it, and ways to level them up. You should be getting skill points right until level 100, not stopping half-way through leveling.
The paragon board is just full of "microgrowth" levels that don't feel impactful at all. Pathing your way through boards does not feel fun. There should be ways to customize boards, allowing you to put your own spin on what the nodes do. Maybe having nodes or node alterations as a drop you can find. Nodes should be more impactful, and you should be starting to interact with the board at an earlier level. The board is where the "damage on Tuesdays" kind of affixes should be located, allowing you to further customize your play experience.
The glyph system is the same way, with incremental growth and far too many levels required to get the impactful levels. Tying glyph experience to the dungeon system is also poor, as it requires you to run through the dungeon system in order for you to upgrade them, and the dungeon system (which is the other thing that needs to be dramatically overhauled) is the worst part about the game, honestly.
The resource system feels "clunky" and tacked on, in the same way that Diablo 3 implemented it. There is zero reason for each character class to get their own "unique" resource system, as they all function essentially the same, and the implementation of generator/spender just feels bad, making you require using a skill that feels bad to use multiple times (the generator) in order to use the one you want to once (the spender). Rinse and repeat.
The game is supposed to be one that you play and replay constantly, whether for your own enjoyment, or through the seasonal aspect. However, none of the games systems are built for it to be an enjoyable game on repeat. It is a grind, a chore, and is just not fun to play. The push for "more endgame" and "uber systems" is not what is needed. What is needed is making the core game fun to play, so that it is an enjoyable experience from 1 all the way to 100 and beyond. The push for "more xp" is solving a symptom of the problems with the game, rather than addressing the issues themselves, that of abysmal dungeons and terrible skill systems. Fix those, and you fix the majority of problems with the game.

how is this any different than nerfing one class for balance rather than improving the 4 underperforming classes. It just another example of half assed design. They can justify their decisions any way they would like, im sure it will go over well with their bosses when they loose their player base, and sales fall short when the expansion launches.

  • @tunnfisk
    @tunnfisk 9 месяцев назад

My interpretation was that it is not cost effective to do so. Imagine if Helltides was a one time reward. All that effort for a one time ordeal is not cost effective game development. Lilith was there as a part of the campaign. Games usually require a campaign to sell the game and story for people to get into the game world bla bla bla. So to make her a one time hard challenge was reusing old assets and part of the "rekill bosses"-mechanics.
Now it would be similar with the Stronghold, but at the same time, not. Not the same prestige or part of the overall story of the game. That's not to say it couldn't be. I just think their mindset is more that of repeatable content. Seasonal activities, Pit, Gauntlet, Uber bosses etc.
I'm not against the idea of Uber Strongholds, however, I would rather see a fully fledged Dungeon or Raid in Lost Ark type of deal. I'm not sure it would even work in Diablo 4, since the combat, skills and gameplay is vastly different. But, nonetheless, it is something I would like to see.

Just look at it this way - they designed the base game on Diablo 3 code and imposed limits both technically and in gameplay on themselves. After Diablo Immortal fiasco at Blizzcon, they needed to put something up really quickly to show to the players that D4 is in works, and they made a decision to reskin D3 and use the code as the quickest way to it. There is really not much they can do at this point without dropping it all and doing a new Diablo game from scratch.
