An original blues rock/country blues song about hypocrisy, denigration, confirmation bias, cancel culture, and tribalism. I find the meaning of this song important in a very politically divided Nation, which is consistently made worse by media bias and a lack of journalistic integrity. It applies to everyone in a bipartisan way, while its message comes from a conservative perspective, inspired by the hypocrisy of the "In this house we believe..." signs, which always end with the phrase "Kindness is Everything."
Inspired by Johnny Cash and Billy Gibbons.
Original music & lyrics by Jack Fossett, © Jack Fossett 2022. All rights reserved. Recorded in Maine with Justin Havu on keys, drums and bass.
    lyrics
A kind word goes a long way in a sea of angry voices.
You say you have an open heart to everybody's choices yet you feel
That anyone who disagrees is just obscene.
Well if thats what you call kindness, I'd hate to see you mean.
You seek out any evidence to prove that you are right.
Anyone who disagrees is pushing for a fight and so you scream,
And call them names until they flee.
Well if thats what you call kindness, Lord I'd hate to see you mean.
Now you're out to change the hearts and minds that don't agree.
They have to learn their toxic ways aren't fit for us to see, so you decide
You will accept no in between.
If thats what you call kindness, Lord I'd hate to see you mean.
People who dissent from you aren't really even human.
Their voices should be silenced if they don't agree with you and if they speak,
Let the mob attack them 'till they bleed.
Well if thats what you call kindness, Lord I'd hate to see you mean.
If thats what you call kindness, oh I'd hate to see you mean.
Well if thats what you call kindness, Lord I'd hate to see you mean.
Knock them down until they bleed.
How you love to watch them bleed.

Irony is both sides think this song agrees with them and is about the other side... but we really know who this is about... or do we?

Funny it was actually a last second decision - on the original recording, I played the rhythm part on a resonator which gave the song (I felt) almost a country blues feel. I thought the rhythm part on electric needed to be spruced up, so I gave it a shot. Very pleased with the result!

@@JackFossett That makes sense. There's a bit of a family resemblance in the timbres of a Resonator and an Electric Guitar through a Rotary effect or actual amp/cab.
I had this old National Resonator back in the early 00s and it sounded like a tiny Rotary was stuck in the chamber.
      The Mini-Me Leslie? Perhaps.... :)
