You do not need to install MS DOS first. Unlike previous Windows versions, Win95 is not a GUI shell for DOS. It runs on its own without a DOS installation.

@@its_4life I've installed Windows 95 in VMware numerous times without installing DOS first. Maybe you have an upgrade edition? Not sure. But a standalone Windows 95 CD ROM or ISO will not need DOS installed first, I assure you.
But you will need a boot disk for CD-ROM drivers. None of the edition of Windows 95 come with CD Drivers which is why they came with a Bootable Floppy.

@@sovixz2398 No I did not. I used ISOs that I downloaded. I specifically remember when I have to use boot disks to install an OS, and I've never had to use one any of the times I've installed Windows 95 in VMware. The ISO boots right up.
Unfortunately, I haven't found anything online to fix the audio drivers for Windows 95, so that I could hear the startup sound that Windows 95 makes when you turn your computer on. I don't know if you have to do the same thing as Windows NT 4.0, where you would insert the Windows setup disk and head to the control panel to add the sound card, which requires both the Windows setup cd and a reboot.
oh and also my MS DOS doesnt have d: but the disk is inserted and its connected
For anyone following this tutorial, DO NOT click yes to the prompt at 7:56. Instead, click No, and follow the instructions in the Notepad readme that popped up, as it documents how to finish installing the graphics driver so you can get a higher resolution and colour depth.
I get an error saying that the file cannot be found.
Problem is, that doesn't work
First, VMware Tools crashes
Then, after you select the driver that's in the notepad readme, it asks you to insert a disk called VMware Tools. Is there such a disk?

you need choose CDROM as flappy disk. then DOS works everytime you want!

Was it a RAM issue? Using more than 256MB RAM can also cause that problem.
use the fopply disk file it only work for fopply disk not iso

Well, this is so far I got also. I was hoping to get an idea of just how to get a proper resolution and sound. This was crap.
Oracle and VMWare has closed their ears to anything before XP. Their focused is on business server stuff not running older applications. Most people have moved on to smartphones and Candy Crush or quick apps which you wind up having a gazillion of them draining your battery.
Funny thing. Modern websites are SO designed for phones that on Dad's DESKTOP from 2011 he was browsing Intel for a replacement and the website kept asking him to turn the screen vertically with a picture of a smartphone blinking. HE'S NOT ON A DAMN PHONE! If you log into Face Book on your tablet it will ask you to upgrade your minutes. IT'S NOT A PHONE EITHER! TABLET'S DON'T USE MINUTES!
i tried "D:" on a win95 beta 2 iso file, but it said: "Invalid drive specification". please make a installation for windows 95 beta 2 on VMware. :(

This means the cd driver is not loaded.
It is the drive letter in "Drive #: - Driver BANANA unit 0".
Just fixed the issue by downloading a CD driver iso and now I can finally install it #easyfix

How much RAM are you using? That is a common error of too much RAM.
Use nothing above 256MB RAM. There is no need for more, and it sends it in to protection error otherwise. I've *heard* that 512MB RAM is max for Windows 95, but it's still done the same thing.
Also, do you have a fast modern CPU? If so, have you run the Windows 95 fast CPU fix? Google that.

@@its_4life As I said, lower your RAM to 256MB. Use NO MORE than 256 MB for Windows 95.
Try that, and see if it works. If it still does not, then google "Win 95 Fast CPU Fix". Download that, then boot in to it with your Win95 VM, then run it. It's very simple.
That should likely fix your issue. But lower your RAM FIRST, then try the fast CPU fix if it doesn't work.
@@VNVNation2013 ok, that fixed the issue. thx, but now it wont boot up a 2nd time after i shut it down and start it back up. it puts me straight into ms dos and says the version of windows isnt compatible with ms dos 7.00 or earlier. any help on that?
@@its_4life I really don't understand why you're getting that error. Did you install Windows 95 on top of DOS?
Are you using a regular full copy of Windows 95? Are you using an upgrade version? If you are using a full copy of Windows 95, you should be able to install it to a completely blank drive, virtual machine or physical. I don't know why you're getting that area, I have never had that problem. Any time that I have ever installed Windows 95, it is been to a blank Drive. I've never had any. DOS-Related issue.

Hi Mate, I am getting a Windows 95 Protection error on first reboot on a Windows 11 Laptop VMWare Install.
you need to put 512 MB of ram and if you have modern cpu you need to install "windows 95 fast CPU fix" google that windows 95 & 98 they freak out when you have too much ram it's a stupid protection that microsoft added for some reason but you can disable it

It means that Windows 95 can’t keep up with the speed of your processor and is messing itself up, reduce the amount of cores you gave your VM, temporarily underclock your cpu while setting up or try installing somthing like Windows 98 or 2000.

macOS is a closed source OS, so you can’t actually run it on a VM. I don’t think Apple allow us to do that

Is your Virtual Machine installed on the C: Drive of your Computer?
Or try to delete all files from the virtual machine or uninstall it then reinstall it and try to do evrything like he did in this Video!

How to copyfile from PC(Win10) to Windows 95 in VMware?
1)put files into a folder and make an iso with IsoCreator
2)start your VM, and switch to D: drive (type D: then dir to see files) with the iso in VM settings. Adding your iso to Use ISO image file: browse for iso then hit ok.
3)go to root C: of your guest VM computer and type md (make directory) and name of folder, hit enter
4)type cd (name of folder)
5) finally type xcopy d:\*.* /s (you copied all the files from the iso and you put it in your root c:\dos\(name of your folder with file)
6) type cd \ then cd (name of folder) then dir to see files.
DONE.
