To be fair to Avere, it sounds like Edda was a bad healer who was standing in Timbuktu rather than anywhere near him.
Though at the same time, get heals between pulls and don't chain pull.
Also don't be an abuser and deserve to be decapitated like he did.

SGE got it so good with the range buff. Both physis(2) and kera got their healing range increased rather than just the mit/buff and those are the two core heals at 78+. I feel a small bit of joy every time I go to use kera and don't have to stand in the exact middle pixel between two people who are both a radius away from that point.

One thing I think contributes to the perception of “tank not getting healed” is shields. It’s hard to tell glancing at your normal HP bar when you have a shield up and how much shield you have on. It was only when I started playing shield healers that I understood how shields are communicated to the player. While I think what is there is serviceable I believe something a little more obvious might be beneficial in getting more people to understand how shields work and how important they can be because even some DPS have a shield OGCD ability like Manaward. Now this could be just me but I feel this would be a net positive and encourage people to use these abilities more.

Did you know that they only added the indicator for shield size to party list in Shadowbringers release? Imagine trying to figure out how much shield you had before that (You couldn't). You only the amount healed as a text and the buff icon to work with.

An idea for another video is how to off-tank for those who are just getting into tanking outside of dungeons. When should you stand next to the other tank, and when should you stand with the party? How do you tank swap? How should you be doing your mitigation? Should you put stance on after the first part of the fight, or just be prepared to provoke upon the tank's death? I see these questions coming up a lot with newer tanks and think a video would be cool!

As a healer main, the biggest thing imo is being in range of heals and mits. It was especially a problem before SHB when the range of heals and bubbles were much smaller, and even though with all the healing range buffs have made it easier, it's still something to keep in mind of especially if you're a ranged or caster. For example in TOP (before the recent healing range buff), it was a nightmare trying to heal in Hello World because the mechanic makes everyone spread out, but it was much easier to heal efficiently when everyone went in after every Latent Defect . Many heals and mits (as well as non healer mits like dark missionary and samba) are/were only 15y and you should make a conscious effort to be within that range unless you really need to be out of range. Ofcourse it's the healers job to position themselves well too, but all too often have I encountered ranged just forgetting to move near the party and just hang out in narnia.

2 useful tips that will scare your enemies:
    1. be in range and sight of your healer as much as possible
    2. when you and more poeple got hit by something avoidable or unavoidable cuddle a little bit with your healer until you have enough health and your healer will love you for that 😇
Yes, there are situations when you shouldn't do that because of mechanics, but in general the 2 tips should help 😋

Addition to timing your raise, for mechanics.
You are immune for 5 seconds to Damage, not to Knockbacks.
So if mechanic is a knockback, be aware that you should not raise before it goes off or boss will just yeet you.
And YES, Healers are not meant to HEAL you , they are meant to keep you ALIVE.
Combine this with, actually stay within our range and you have a far better time.
These ones usually only vex me in savage.
Where dps either complain they not topped (while next mechanic not even gonna chip 20% of their hp bar if they perform it correctly).
Or they not topped when needed, cause they shukuchied the hell out of range before a single heal could go off. (p8s high concept was infamous for this one pre mit range buff)

Reminder to all my fellow Monks that Mantra is a good button to press during big damage windows, especially in those "have to heal the whole party to full" mechanics. Also, if you do have strong self healing that doesn't eat into your DPS and the healer looks like they will be busy for a while, feel free to heal yourself and spare them some headaches. As a Monk, Mantra+Second Wind+Bloodbath can get you into a comfortable spot while the healer worries about the tanks or other raises

I think my biggest other tip for the newer players is the biggest help you can do if you're struggling is to check your own gear, especially I've found in stuff which hard syncs your item level. I had a run of Stone Vigil (Hard) where I was healing a Dark Knight who was dying super fast because the best stuff on them was from Aurum Vale, not to mention a Bard wearing the Artifact gear still. I had to micromanage them so hard during the pulls as they weren't even close to that dungeon's sync point I basically had Bene rolling on cooldown. The tank did everything right in dungeon, but their gear was holding them back.

The number one addition to this is, if you are ranged DPS, magical or physical, DON'T stand in the middle of nowhere. This is a good way to be missed by AoE heals. And by the Twelve, please don't move outside of a healer's bubble. We put those things down for a reason, they'll either lower the damage taken by unavoidable raid wide damage, help with healing following raid wide damage or both in the case of Collective Unconscious and Sacred Soil (and Kerachole, but that'll snapshot everyone so there's no walking out of it if you're hit by it)

  • @SugarfreeSux

Stick around your healers, especially in alliance raids i often see dps are nowhere in aoe heal range.
Healers mostly stick around the bosses hitbox, in order to get an aoe heal on the tank, you gonna miss out if you're out of range, all of a sudden you die and cry "wHeRe hEaLs?

Tanks: for the love of god, no matter how low you get, do not stop doing damage in order to heal yourself. Invuln if you're really that scared, but you shouldn't ever be touching gcd heals like clemency unless something is horribly wrong (like a dead healer).
One time in roulettes I had a level 80 tank spam clemency in every pack because I was doing my job right and was keeping him low. The enemies died so slowly that, counterintuitively, the tank was actually taking WAY MORE DAMAGE and made keeping him alive way harder. I was dumping all my resources on him the moment they came off cooldown, and yet I was still sweating and struggling to keep this guy alive. Each and every w2w pull was a living nightmare and took forever.
And yet, since he didn't see me cast very many gcd heals since he was watching the castbar (y'know, bc by 80, 95% of your heals are ogcd or instant cast), this guy had the AUDACITY to ask me for MORE HEALS.
Do not be this guy. Please.... please just trust your healer and keep doing damage. I promise we're watching your healthbar and we're just trying to time our heals to get the most out of them

I find keeping tanks at about 75% health keeps them calm. Also have had one too many times when a tank was 50% with no mitigations on and the trash mobs decide to crit all at once or just decide to AA all at the same time and drop the tank, especially in earlier content when everyone has less health.

@@AussieBPsycho if they don't mit that's their own damn fault. Keeping tanks at around 30% helps you get the most out of all your abilities without any risk, but I often go lower when I have big heal nukes I wanna use. You forgot to tell the ranged not to stand in f'ing Timbuktu, outside the range of aoe heals. I'm looking at you, BLMs who nail their feet to the edge of the arena, and you, BRDs and DNCs who run laps around the outside edge. This is probably not a problem in high end content, but I mostly run dungeons and often want to smack these type of ranged dps. I get that BLMs don't want to stand where they're going to be affected by others' player targeted AOE. That's fine. However, there's a difference between standing a little apart and standing at max distance from the boss, the melee, the tank...and the healer.

I get wanting to keep people topped off (I'm even guilty of this, I love using an oGCD group wide aoe heal right after an aoe) but bruh, if I'm at 50% hp, I'm not gonna die to the next two hits, especially if I'm mitigated or ready to use a move to keep me alive, just DPS to your heart's content my guy.

Spamming adlo is awful, but if excog is popping off of sub 50% and the tank isn't using an invuln you are actively bleeding out and you can expect to die soon, lol. Sch has no burst healing it's all just mits and lil bits of regens to try and prevent you from getting low to begin with. Don't run AWAY from the healer if you need healing.

Obviously it's very small healing, but I figure it's not going to be get used much at all, so might as well use them if it isn't slowing me down. I'll use it if I notice my hp is dropping a lot during a boss or trash pull, like there's unavoidable damage that the healer is just having a hard time keeping up with, so I try to lighten the load a little. When I get raised, I obviously wait for the invulnerability of course, but once it's about to run out, if I still have low hp cause the healer needed to keep the tank up or something, I use those role actions first so I can heal myself up that little bit once the invuln is gone.

I love tanking and my favorite thing in dungeons is when healers gamble with my health bar and wait till I'm at ~20% or less and then slap a big heal on me. It's the number one way I know I'm playing with a good healer while also loving it as a tank myself. As long as I'm above 1 hp I'm vibing!

Also just, don't forget to throw out your job specific mitigation. Bards, Dancers, Monks and probably more I don't have everything memorised to just throw out at a moments notice have good things to use to mitigate damage. And Black Mages, Samurais, Ninjas, Reapers and probably more have good personal mitigations. Though admittedly I'm not always sure when to Manaward myself. Or I do it too late and get lold by animation lag xP

As a healer main, thank you for this video. You are rezed where the healer was when they rezed you. So you maybe rezing into a spot where the healer was safe and now is where an aoe is being dropped. Please figure out where you are before doing anything to that removes your invulnerability buff. I throw out my rez so I can get the cooldown on swiftcast rolling, especially if I see multiple people needing rezes throughout a fight. I think there is 59sec on the rez so wait if needed, the dps drop sucks but if you die again that is even worse for your dps. Don't know how many times I see a person take a rez, hit a skill before I can get a heal on them and then die. Let me tell you as a healer, I notice those things and my rez priority will change.

But I had a Tower at Paradigms Breach, where during the final final boss, one of the members got yeeted, so I ressed them right then, but they ressed into the trains and got trained. I felt bad that I didn't move to the tracks to ress em, but they shoulda waited for the trains first.

If I play RPR and die due to not paying enough attention, I try to heal myself as much as I can, at least after these 5 seconds of invulnerability, since I am giving extra work to the healer by playing badly. Otherwise, I barely use the heals, I just trust the healers. Of course DPS can just use their rotation to gain heals too. Make sure to keep these buffs up. Watch Wesk's videos about how to do that :)

Feint (Melee DPS, lv. 22+) and Addle (Caster DPS, lv. 8+) are mitigations that help in any content -- but they are most useful for bosses. Feint on a target gives debuff of -10% physical damage/-5% magic damage for 10 seconds. Addle is the opposite; -10% magic damage/-5% physical damage, also for 10 seconds. Ranged physical doesn't get their 10% general mitigations until lv. 56 (MCH, DNC) or lv. 62 (BRD). So yeah, your SAM or BLM doesn't have to be _totally_ selfish!
If you read past the break, here's your Fun Fact reward:
Ultima Weapon in Porta Decumana does ONLY Magic damage. Even the auto attacks are magic!
Still here? Have another! If you want to position on one of Ultima Weapon's Aetherspheres during that attack, go to any of the points of Ulty's minimap icon, put it in the hollow of your own position icon arrow, and you'll end up within a few steps of the... well, it's kind of a silly attack and I don't think I've ever seen a party die to it, but I've averted a couple of close calls by taking on both pairs myself.

I know this wasn't the point of the video, but it is annoying to run into healers who prioritize reviving FIRST, healing SECOND. Bonus points if they hardcast a revive, then cancel because they need to move for a mechanic, and all that time, they failed to revive and also failed to heal. More bonus points if they swiftcast revive a teammate, then immediately proceed to hardcast revive another teammate without first healing the newly revived teammate. I'm a healer main, and I don't trust other healers in duty finder.

How to be healed: Yes, I know you're a ranged DPS, but you don't have to be standing at max range. Stand within the AoE heal range of your healer because if it's a choice between healing the tank or running out into west narnia to drop a single target on you because you can't stay with the rest of the group, the healer is sticking with the tank.

The co-healer should always heal a healer that goes down, they shouldn't be healing themselves. 1, it breaks the rez immunity to heal yourself, so you risk dying and waste mit. 2, you get raised with almost no MP, so if you spend that MP healing yourself you can't help heal the party until. 3, if you've just been rezzed then the co-healer's swiftcast is probably now on CD. That means you're on rez duty for anyone else who's gone down, so you need every point of MP.

@@SodamanFn so you as a healer shouldn't use your tools at your disposal to take care of yourself? Especially in recovery scenarios i have enough on my plate than worry about a healer who can heal themselves. Also if you just rezzed you dont have mp so what rezzing are you doing. That mp would be better spent on aoe heals or single targets.

As a DPS I save my self-heals for when I have taken some avoidable damage so the healer can stay focused on the tank and unavoidable damage. Me hitting Second Wind or Bloodbath (or DNC's heal dance) is more me trying to signal to the healer that I'm fine and they don't have to waste time on me rather than me panicking. I hope it doesn't come across as me not trusting or nagging the healer.

9:29 Imagine preaching using CDs while not using cover/intervention on sprout dps that is about to die as OT PLD with full gauge

    • @WeskAlber
      @WeskAlber  7 месяцев назад +2

      Few issues there:
I'm not saying use CDs here, I'm saying "Dodge AoEs" which if anything you're saying is a condemnation of said newbie who got to 80 without learning that. Intervention wouldn't have saved them from 5 vulns because it is damage that would kill from Max HP. Nor would have Addle/Feint saved them. Notice the Reprisal that fell off? That was mine. I used on the Dynamics Cast because I wasn't sure if the damage snapped on that cast, or the actual AoE landing. I further thought it would last until the AoE landed, I was wrong. So I even DID mitigate. Which is the next sentence, not that one.
I thought they were on the other side of the boss - too far to cover. No, I'm an idiot, that's just the MT.
What I didn't realize was they were one of the people running away from the boss - something a melee should never do. Even if I did use Cover, they still would have died.
I was too busy panicking that 3 people all ran the exact same direction and were about to die (one of them made it out alive) because in this video I mention mistakes happen, and even show me making another mistake with bad HG timing.
I am hardly an expert at every job. My main criticism of Cover has always been "without pre-planning, you need to be really good to recognize the split second Cover is needed." In that split second, I was busy worrying about the mechanic and said people all about to die together. I am no god PLD, and I never claimed to be.
I didn't even know they had 5 Vulns until Editing. One, sure. Five? No. So until I began editing this video, there was no reason for me to even attempt to Cover. They would survive the AoE as is designed in that case. I thought they died for the same reason as the SMN - the NIN stacked with them. Because notice the SMN definitely should have survived even with a vuln. The NIN killed them.
It's easy to point at mistakes in a recording and say "lol he's just preaching." Meanwhile the mistakes I did include are to reinforce that "shit happens, just stay calm and carry on" so that situations like this don't even happen. It's a lot more "preachy" to blame me for the NIN dying to 5 vuln stacks AND overlapping AoEs with the SMN. The power of hindsight is far stronger than reacting to a NIN thinking they're a BRD.

4 player content, accepting a rez as a tank, remember to provoke the boss. You died, so you lost all the aggro you had on boss, so its gonna be attacking the healers/dps.
Same with co-tanks, if main tank died, use Provoke on boss.
As an off tank you should always be #2 in aggro list anyways incase main tank dies so boss automatically attacks you. Turn your tank stance on about 20 seconds into the fight, watch the aggro metter not to accidental steal aggro from main tank. turn it off just in case or use Shirk on main tank.
