Great instructional video. I saw different versions where an exhaust hole / holes were drilled on top of the main tube so that it was easier to pull up on the handle . Waiting on the second installment. I'm curious about locations where you can find ghost shrimp.
I used a larger suction gun for long neck clams. Vasoline works well for a lube and increases suction. great build. Thanks for sharing...New sub and hope to see you out there...Cheers Jeff
Nice job there. Wish this video was around when I decided to pay too much 💰 got mine haha Looking forward to Part 2! There aren’t a lot of videos about pumping GS in the Bay Area, what to look for in a particular spot if you’re scouting aerial maps online, etc... Are you planning on targeting rockfish or other bottomfish with GS, or are you going after the usual suspects e.g. sturgeon, stripers, and bigger surfperch?
I was about to buy one the other day for sturgeon! good thing I didn't since they didn't have any but I knew it would have costed me quite a bit. I'm definitely following this tutorial and making my own. @diehardfishing is this good enough for clamming also?
Yeah I definitely recommend following this to tutorial and making one at home! As for using it for clams, typically “clam guns” that you can buy at tackle shops are much bigger, have a larger opening at the bottom, and the handles aren’t designed to move and create suction. The suction comes from forcing it down into the wet, marshy or sandy ground, pulling it up and dumping the sand, then looking back into the hole to hopefully get better access to dig the clams out. The ghost shrimp pumps are designed to “pump” the shrimpies out of the dirt for you so you don’t have to go digging for them. So I don’t think the GS pump would work for clams-mayyyyyybe razor clams tho? No harm in bringing the pump along and trying it anyway as long as it doesn’t violate any kind of regulation 😉
Following what P said, I don't think the 2" PVC pipe is bog enough for clams. I assume you should be able to do something similar with a larger diameter pipe but I have never tried that. I am hoping to get on some big surfperch with these ghost shrimp and hopefully some sturgeon later down the line.
I'm not sure if this question is allowed bc I'm not sure if it refers to spot burning like fish or crab but I googled where to pump ghost shrimp and it showed a few beaches. I was wondering do you know if I can pump ghost shrimp from ocean beach or Pacifica?
Great video. A few questions. I went to HomeDepot and they don't see the "red' one you referenced. They showed be a similar one that is stainless steel both sides with the rubber in between. Will this work? You verbally stated the washer size as "1/2 to 2". The printed information you listed stated 1-5/8 washer with a 3/8 hole? Does the hole have to be 3/8? Thanks in advance for your reply
Ok, sheepishly I have to say it didn't work for me! A used the exact material so I've must have done someithing incorrect. I dug my tube into the sand, pulled up and the suction didn't pickup any sand. i tried tightening the screw more but it was already tight. Any suggestions? Has this worked for anyone? Any idea what I did wrong???
I still have one of those left over from early steelhead fishing days.Used it for sand shrimp.Lots of fun. I tried to email you this to keep it private but your link does not work for me. Abs pipe is black.PVC pipe is white.ABS pipe requires ABS cement.Pvc pipe requires PVC cement. To cement PVC to ABS requires transition cement. All the cements mentioned are not glue but solvents that melt the pipe together in a sense, You used ABS cement on everything.
Awesome DIY presentation thanks a million 👌👍
What does it say about me that I had everything here to make this? 🤣
Awesome video, man! Thank you!
This is a great how to! Thank you so much. I’m definitely making one and trying to catch a shrimp!
Awesome
Can't wait to see how you hunt for Ghost Shrimp, signs and environment and stuff
Coming soon!

I was thinking about doing that too. I might try this out and add that in later if I need to. Thanks!
Very easy! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!

“Scouting aerial maps” for ghost shrimp is wild
Thanks for the upload. 😁
Thanks for watching!
Wow thank you under 20 bucks just made mine 10 stars for you

I’m UK based and I’m struggling to find the washer sizes? It’s a different measuring system and I cant seem to find them :/
Would love to try one of those, but don't get that plumbing suction device where I live. So I have to make use of a Coke bottle.

Yes that will work! And no the size of the inside hole on the washer does not matter.
ok, I've gathered all the parts and will assemble and try soon. Your 2nd video was helpful.
Glad it helped! Hope you get some good bait!

hmmm that is weird, is the rubber from the test plug touching the tube to create the suction?

Thanks for the heads up. I know nothing about pipes so that is good to know!
What’s a test plug?
Watched this on the toilet
Me and you brother 😂
Was assembled on toillete
Nice video, shouldn't the 3/4 inch PVC be longer than the 2in PVC and not the same size length.
Thanks for watching. I didn't have any problems with them both being the same size. If anything, the 2 inch pipe should be a touch longer.
Now go out and catch some Starry Flounder. This is a good time of year for that.
That would be sick!
@Die Hard Fishing ; The mouth of the San Gregorio or Pescadero lagoon are good places. You can also try in San Pablo Bay near the Napa River
That's a wing nut.
that would be called a wingnut my friend....
I’m getting close to blocking you. Clickbait titles and BS content never end well in the long run. Bless your heart.

Worst pump you could you make
