These types of decks started before Argothian Enchantress, with Verduran Enchantress. They weren't as effective at the time or in the early days of MtG, but they have always been around for the history of the game. As Verduran Enchantress was printed in Alpha, was a playtesting deck base in the old days, and had 3 different versions in the Shandalar MtG game by Microprose (1997). While the Verduran Enchantress versions didn't make the top 8 of any major events, she was the basis of several decks that made the top 32 of events even as far back as 1995. (These decks did not make the top 24 until 1997 PT Paris, and didn't break the top 8 until Argothian Enchantress versions appeared. As the Argothian is superior to Verduran, in that she doesn't cost double green and is untargetable.) Enjoy !
New toys for the deck rarely comes by, but when they do it's fun. The recent printing of Swift Reconfiguration. Acting as combo piece, protecting our out creature from removal, or taking a creature out of combat. I transitioned more into a heavier combo element, running multiple (3x) copies of Devoted Druid. With the help of Green Sun Zenith, and living wish for utility creatures and another devoted druid copy in the wisboard, for added consistency. The possibility of hard casting turn 2 Emrakul is quite fun.. if not, then just play your typical game plan of generating tons of CA and board presence.
In Old School ‘93-‘94 MTG Verduran Enchantress decks are fairly popular I suspect because they’re fun and easy to build with white border reprints. Run with Wild Growth, Aspect of Wolf, Rabid Wombat, etc. Great video!
The one archetype I always go back to.. Whenever I’m piloting it’s a exercise in struggle and whenever other enchantress decks pop up it’s like a work of art.
You should have mentioned JJ Stors, the guy who won a Pro Tour Qualifier with Enchantress in 2002/2003, who came up with the idea of using Words of Wind and Cloud of Faeries in the deck, and whose deck and articles Motokiyo based his Grand Prix winning deck on!
I got so confused at 8:00, and wondered how Estrid's Invocation found its way into a 2015 list, three years before it was printed...before I wound back and realised you said 2019 and just forgot to change the decklist's date, heh. (Not a dig, just more pointing out my own silly lack of attention!)
Watching Aluren lose for so long, I feel they should get their chance and let a new contender enter the arena to fight for who should be the next topic. Can only avoid an inevitable topic for so long. And Aluren decks are just that.
@@RiptornRory splinter twin wasn’t voted in for quite a long time on this channel. Became almost a joke and i swear people voted for whatever deck came up against it in the polls Lol. Good times
Alluren is a low chance deck for this history, as it was way more commonly and popularly used. The history of it isn't as important to people as the other decks, since the other decks weren't as frequently used, or had very short lifespans.
@@nickbianchini3967 I play Legacy mainly and have several versions of the deck, I think my favorite card is Sigil of the Empty Throne for sheer beats but I have a very jank Gbur version that has Research/Development in it to grab sideboard stuff to use in game 1. Hey Nizza, would you make a video about the new SNC draft? It would be awesome to hear your opinions in how the balancing worked and if that changes the general strategy.
I know the mana value and no protection makes it akward, but it still saddens me that the OG enchantress is ignored when the talk about this type of deck. it was even reprinted in 9th? I am of course talking about verduran enchantress.
I think this is because these decks prefer their enchantresses to be enchantments themselves, and Champion is not, so it can't be tutored by Grove and does not draw cards from other enchantresses
@@astuteanansi4935 that’s fair, I would almost think the bonus of your card draw engine acting as a possible finisher would make it valuable enough for 1-2 in the deck
@@travismoon1011 Lack of evasion probably makes it less desirable as a finisher than that one card that makes a land into a creature that tramples. It's great in EDH because A) you only get singletons, so you need more enchantresses, and B) most EDH enchantment decks are voltron. But these enchantress decks don't run auras, so Champion just gets chumped all day.
Enchantress was my favorite deck to play in Shandalar. It’s hilarious to win with Rabid Wombat, or kill the opponent by enchanting all the cards on their side of the table.

I run a commander deck based on this sort of strategy, though it also includes enchantment creatures as well, mainly for synergies.
When Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth was printed, we leaned heavily into Spreading Algae. Surprised none of these have either of those.

Killer content as always! Thanks for the vids
Thought I was muted because no soothing intro music then I got my ears blasted 😂
As an enchantress player this is awesome! Thank you for making this happen!
As an alluren player I'm upset people won't vote for it.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Beating 5 color Yorion/Omnath with Enchantress felt so good at a modern qualifier.

Nine Lives is pretty powerful, but so is River's Rebuke.
So, naya runes from the previous standar season doesn't qualify as enchantress? Or the new rites of harmony draw all saga decks?
Naya runes is probably more akin to bogles and I don't think the harmony deck has put up relevant enough results to be mentioned
