That first base area (28W 33S) is genius! Building my first big base there. The clean water is a serious bonus. The natives see the creek as a river always (since its one of the areas that fills up when it rains) so they won’t follow you across. Its perfectly flat and is rich with resources. Plus the creek being right there is great for building with mud. Would recommend big time.
11:50 The big tree just left of centre is where I built my first base in story mode, I slept underneath the tree for a few days before building a tree house, now that I've got established I use the tree house for storage of weapons, emergency bandages and somewhere to run to if I get outnumbered, there's a constant water supply from the river which is a great site for fishing, stingrays, pigs and the banana plantation at the tribal village, I'm trying to build a fortified mud circular camp at the base of the tree but the terrain is pretty uneven and the locals keep trying to evict me.
In story i built a base outside the lab you make the cure in. I removed a massive amount of vegetation, built my base then made the cure. Upon leaving the tent all the foliage had regrown and my camp looked like it had been abandoned for years.😂

The fishing docks is my personal fave base location. It's location has everything you would need to survive in the game. My longest living character is based there. Food will never be an issue due to the parrot, capybara, armadillo, fish, and turtle spawns. A buncha banana trees are also there for your calories needs. There's also a cave behind the waterfall that provides obsidian and iron + a tree that gives honey and resins. You will have more coconuts than you could store and you practically have infinite arrows due to the sheer volume of parrots. It's also relatively safe in the area bcz there isn't really any predator spawns, not even venomous critters surprisingly enough- the piranhas are the only problem you'll have but they're mostly on the right side of the docks, the left side is pretty safe. The tribesmen spawns are also not an issue, they're easy enough to deal with especially if I based on the open field river.
I found out the hard way tribal's spawn on the Anaconda Island. I just finished harvesting an animal, turned around, and there were three just chilling on my base site. This was very helpful. Thank you
2nd spot is my favorite, up to the left of the cave there is a very cozy spot with only one way in/out feels very safe and it’s big enough for a 1x2 planters and more
# 4 is where i built my makeshift camp when getting familiar with the game in story mode. I was able to build up to the right (if you’re on the beach looking at the water). Pretty good spot!
Not mentioned at least anywhere i can see and this is a bit late but my personal favorite spot is 41 by 35 nice open area, a few good tree house spots, a four pronged spear, sometimes a machete, and a fish trap, as well as a drying rack, all in all a nice little spot.
50 N - 17 S... Best place Ive found. Doesnt have the constant sound of static either. By the river (water base) flat ground x 2 (Earth Base), all animals including Turtle, frog, birds, fish, all red meats, stones, coconuts, several armadillos, one side of river is all bamboo and one is all wood, Brasil nut tree, (tree house), 2 x moloniera, tobacco too and 3 varieties of fruit + nuts all within 50meters or so... No Natives & No Predators...
Started playing multiplayer with some friends recently, and I've forgotten all the cool places since I haven't played in about a year. This was awesome and reminded me of all the cool places to take them.
I have heard the devs didn't want any mega builds, which, I guess is why there are plenty of tiny "pockets" of flat clear land, and NOWHERE that's really open, and clear of unchoppable trees. I've been enjoying that starter zone, arapima are easy to spear down, and that obsidian "nook" is great for getting a head start on better quality tools. but that main village seemed like where I might want to spend a "survival play" that or the fishing dock, perhaps, but nowhere that reeeaaaaally stood out as prime, huh?
