Converting a 1959 Philco Predicta into an iMac

  • Taking this BEAUTIFULLY designed tech from 1959 and bringing it into present day with current tech. This 1959 Philco Predicta was on death's door, all tubes were harvested, and the CRT was shot. Restoring it would mean destroying another predicted for all the parts I need, so I decided to fill it with modern computer parts, and effectively make it a present day iMac with vintage design.
    I know there's a lot of people about to come at me, but it was either this, or it sits on a shelf not working forever :)

    sad to destroy such a beautiful device. not the worst, but a worst build.

    Sorry to say, it's horrible to wreck a Predicta. FYI, almost any CRT with the same deflection angle (which is common to other later made CRTs) can be made to work. And some people just like to have to look at even if not operational.

    this is just sad, and the blonde holiday is a rare model.

    As both a fan of vintage tvs and vintage computing I dunno what to say here

      I definitely didn’t expect everyone to love this. The whole thing was fried, I would have had to gut a working predicta for the parts, which would have been pointless 😂

      Might have been a good idea to include that information in the video as a subtitle

      @@thecianinator I mean, if I spend my whole life defending what I do, I won’t have time to just do it and be happy. Too many people want to just hate on everything, so I’ve stopped pandering to them as much and just do the things I want to do. Not to sound like a downer, I’ve just spent too much time defending myself, I just want to work on my stuff and make videos

    Man with the predicta already being rare he ruined a blondie holiday at that, I imagine there are less than a hundred of those left in existence. And that’s being generous.

    Brilliant use of an old TV set. I would do the same with one of my favourite bits of old tech: a Commodore PET computer. The CRT in those things is obsolete...if it works at all. Replacing that with an appropriate flat panel would result in a PET that consumes less energy, too. SO many possibilities...

    well, my concern is that glass over the screen - it looks like it will significantly dim the picture. other than that, it is an interesting enough work

    • @DullHoeFarm
      @DullHoeFarm 2 месяца назад

      It's not glass over the screen. The CRT cover is made of Tenite. Unfortunately over time the tenite must be removed and polished due to a haze that forms.

    Please make a collapsible hybrid like your ibook g3 but add the ability to insert a Mac mini to switch and use the iPad as a Mac book 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I can suggest the concept itself
