I watched this the night before last, and as a nonbinary person it hit me like a truckload of bricks. I'm still reeling tbh. The ending juxtaposed against Maddie telling Owen not to apologise earlier in the film just goes so hard.
I'm pretty sure this is among my favourite movies ever. I feel like the "horror drama" label mostly comes from the aesthetics of young adult horror media used throughout but when viewed from a trans perspective, the ending genuinely hits as more horrifying and playing into greater personal fears than anything in more proper horror films. It's genuinely quite fascinating, using the horror trappings without the actual horror having *anything* to do with those, if that makes sense.
The fact you started saying there's still time before the film did was amazing. In terms of transness, I've seen this film be described as being about the 'egg crack' moment. On the bleachers as a teenager, owen talks about a fear of what she would find if she broke her chest open - and at the end of the film, she finally does. She looks inside, and maybe she'll do something about it. There's still time.
I love how thoughtful you are when dissecting the movie. It’s the way I like to watch movies too Also this movie is super incredible and one of my favorite movies of all time the instant I see it
@@erikchristensen822 haha it’s a symptom of depression I believe is how you word it. That good old dead inside feeling. anything you always enjoys even feels like a chore.
A title in the title! ❤❤❤❤❤ I'll have to watch later after I've either seen the movie or decided I won't, but in the meantime please accept this like and comment in appreciation!
@@user-gf5ce9ig1b I know that's what they were going for but him yelling "I'm dying...Mommy" in a cartoonishly screechy voice while everyone is frozen like a Saved By The Bell episode is unintentionally hilarious. And then him cutting open his chest to reveal an episode of the TV show playing feels like some obvious/forced imagery that a teenager came up with.
Ever since I've watched it I've wanted to see it again. BUT IM IN AUSTRALIA and I can't get it streamed on amazon and can't afford Max. My dvd player isn't blue ray either, so I'm fucked.

As someone who was in the closet far too long, this film broke me.
You watched a movie I've already seen. This may be the first time.
Also pretty sure that font is the Buffy font.
Don't get too comfortable ❤️

I think that also Possessor by Brandon Cronenberg are on that sweet spot of existential and scary that you mention at the end

Man, the ending of this so unbearably corny that I audibly laughed.
I mean, it is? A lot of people describe the ending more bleak than corny.
