    Boston College gave FSU a run for their money last season. It was a game that came down to the wire and a lot of that was due to an explosive performance by their QB Thomas Castellanos and by extension their offense as a whole. They had the second-highest yards per play against the ‘Noles on the season, second only to the eventual Heisman winner Jayden Daniels. So what did they do that put FSU in a tough situation and why weren’t other teams able to replicate it down the road?

    How I defended this (using the diagram at the 2:43 mark): My W and M are always stacked behind their corresponding tackles. I roll the S and FS to cover the WR's/TE not covered by the corner. Move SS to like a Cover 3 that comes a little closer inside the box but still a little shaded to the backside. Backside corner shifts alongside the DE as WR motions to the strong side and I give them the green light to automatically blitz. The DE is tasked to initially to engage the Right Tackle and then hold up and play contained for anything backside. The blitzing corner has three jobs depending on the play and how soon they can get there: 1) Disrupt the mesh, 2) Tackle the RB or 3) Sack or move the QB from where they would like to throw the ball. The hope is to be able to affect the play before it can get started. In the end, I won sometimes and I lost sometimes.

      Easier said than done I know but the flu can't be an excuse in football.
      As Kevin points out, the defensive line simply played better to fill gaps.
      Probably due to Odell gettin' in their a**es when they came off the field. They dug deep and overcame whatever ailments they had.
      That and IVs during halftime 😂

    • @XsandNoles
      @XsandNoles  2 месяца назад

      Yeah that would also work! I think they do it like this because it keeps the back 4 the same for cover 4 stuff, but even as I say that, they roll a safety forward so he's no longer a deep guy.
      I would be tempted to flip SS and C tbh

    Poor coaching ain’t a bug of miami coaching… it’s a feature! Digress to your heart’s desire!!
    As to changes against quads, why not swap the SS and the shifted corner… especially if you’re gonna run cover four? In other words, from the standard set, roll the FS down to nickel responsibilities, leave the SS where they belong, and shift the number two corner to ball-hawk over the top in the FS spot. Seems like that would maximize skill-sets, maintain the best run support, and leave a thumper in space where numbers are thin.

    • @XsandNoles
      @XsandNoles  2 месяца назад +1

      Love that suggestion. My guess is it would take a fair amount of communication. You're still shifting your shell which you avoid the other way

      I hear ya, but I’d rather shift than leave #2 corner all by himself against counter… I doubt we get a Verse level performance out of any DE when it comes to run-stuff this year. I like the DL a lot, just think we’re gonna need more from the second level than we did last year.

      Kevin makes a video showing a flaw in the defense and how it was corrected and you get on here talking nonsense. That was a 1400 mile road trip and guys caught the flu. Bama played a weak G of 5 to a score of 7-3 in the 4th quarter. That same G of 5 got blown out by 4 G of 5s. Texas barely got by Houston and should've lost to K State. Bama also struggled with Arkansas and others. Washington barely beat Arizona State, didn't even score an offensive touchdown. Going undefeated trumps anything you or TurdStreet 💩 has to say. BC was still a 7-6 P5 team playing their red bandana game. No championship caliber team has ever played a Group of 5 like Bama played USF. And FAU, UAB, WKU and UTSA all blew out USF. Boston College didn't get blown out by 4 group of 5 teams. Boston College doesn't play in the group of 5 either.
