I agree this is a greatly detailed kit. I used the air cleaner and intake manifold from this kit to resin cast several copies for future projects, including my brothers real 1971 Hemi orange/Tor red 'Cuda 340 3-speed car (one of 150 built). Thanks you for the video!
Nice build! Always liked the paint work on those cars. Especially 340 on the hood. When ever I see those it reminds me of the album cover by the Cars. Thanks for sharing.
Those cars were definitely everywhere back in the day....now a 'rarity', mostly "tribute" (clones) around now. My favourite was the Swinger with a 340/six pack, which I think was in 69 before these styling changes. I'm going from memory here.
Very nice detailing on this car, it looks amazing. I have a few variations of this kit and can't wait to build one. Great job and great video as always. Thank you.
When I was in High School in the early 80s Dusters were always shunned as a “Grandma Car” They were not popular with the e body or b body guys. Times have changed as you can’t hardly find a decent affordable Duster anywhere now. Beautiful model !
Very nice build. I was excited to hear they will be coming out with a long awaited Demon 340 kit. The 340 was a good motor, I raced a 340 Dart with my 383 69 Roadrunner I blew him out of the hole, but he almost got me at top end.
I built this AMT kit and converted it to the Mexican counterpart, the Valiant Super Bee. The Valiant Super Bee mount a hot V8 318 (340 was not available in Mexico) with 270 HP, same four-barrel Carter Thermoquad carb and the key feature was the two separated hood scoops with Dixco hood tach above the left scoop.
I've got a few of those kits but I'm planning on building a 70 Duster on account of the resin grill I bought from Hart's Resin parts, I want to paint it in the shade of pink to change it up
Great looking build! I owned and loved my 71. Same color, same hood call-out! Owned it until 2004 or 5. The black suede paint on the hood extended along the roof line above the windows and you had to be super careful not to get paste wax on it!!! 😂 I used black vinyl top wax for the black areas. Surprised many a big block car on a short run! lol
I was trying to build a copy of my '70 Duster 340 and you had sent me a '70 grille to use in place of the '71 grille. Thank you very much for the grille if I haven't thanked you before. This was on the Scale Auto Forum many years ago.
Your welcome. That was a long time ago and did you build yours. Mine waited on decals and I finally got a set from The Last Detail many years ago. Then I got another set from Rays Kits when he started offering them.
Great video and great build. I've been looking to get this kit. I love well detailed kits like this. Shame on me for not having this kit, because im a Mopar guy lol 😆 😂
Love this styles of muscle cars, beautiful build, Im still trying to get this model, as I'd like to paint the green version, nice video and info😊 Have a great weekend👊 Cheers🍻🍺 KC 🇦🇺🤝🇺🇸😎👍
Nice looking build, color looks great on this. I have this kit on the shelf from the last release, have been looking to get on it. Nice under hood detail.. I like it!
I'm also fortunate to have the early 2000s issue of the 74 Duster street machine kit which is basically every 70s issue of it in Super Stock form minus any racing decals
"Ironically"? It's not ironic at all. So many cool cars, so many cool options, only so much time. I built mine close on the heels of its release - Sassy Grass Green with the hood graphic. No side or tailight decals. Seeing this kit serves as a reminder of the lost opportunity the new Round 2 Demon represents. I was really hoping for a lot of shared tooling with this great kit instead of cloning the cruder original MPC kit. That being the case, it has really dampened my enthusiasm for picking one up. P.S. you made me check those hidden parking lamps on mine and I did replicate them, but mine don't have that subtle amber tint of yours. Also, your the lettering on your tires? C'est magnifique!
Thanks. I have way too many of these kits and have two kit bash projects with resin Demon bodies. As for to many projects. I am way guilty of that. I buy a kit, think of all the possibilities then pick one and write notes and parts needed for project. Collect them or even another parts kit. Put notes on the outside of the box for that project. And now I even have a spread sheet on the computer so I don’t buy a duplicate. But that hasn’t stopped me. I could probably do a whole video on just that! I had to put notes on the outside as I have many of the same base kit. I think I have 10 Revell 69 Camaros.
Awesome! When growing up I had a neighbor that was kind of a church goer and preached a bit. Even as a kid it annoyed me, but he had a black primer 71 Demon. I always wondered why he had this car with the little devil and pitchfork on it. I didn't know what it was at the time, but I remember the emblem. It wasn't loud or fast that I can remember.
Love seeing the stash and your information. Curious if you've heard about the canadian 340 swingers ( 71/72 ), or the plum crazy oldsmobile recently featured at MCACN. Coldwarmotors recently featured a 340 swinger.
Cool... i have this one stalled....no problems i just need to paint the motor and interiour.... i used to own a 71 A51 Twister....it was originaly 6cl but had a 360... it was originaly Red but painted Limelight.... the 340 motor was a good 330bhp the 275 was for insurance.
Thanks you! I know the motor was underrated. Just interesting that 70 and 71 had the same rating but 70 was more powerful. The 71 got cheaper heads and manifolds and a weaker carb. The heads got the same bigger valves for 71 but not for 72.
I have built about five of these over the last 24 years. Some of the fitment issues turned me off for a while (the windscreen and the backlight - not exclusive to this kit - aren't the best. The decals are junk, too). One of the easiest fixes to get the interior to seat into the body is to sand-down the interior side of the upper portion of the doors. The as cast body had an impediment which causes the interior door cards to hang up on that edge. 340 engines produced from May - July 1971 are all "1972 Blue", regardless of which car received them. One of my complaints about the otherwise great kit engine is the absence of the breather (right valve cover) and PVC (left valve cover). Additionally, installing this engine in as - is form in a 1969 & earlier vehicle requires a reworking of the valve covers to be correct.
Thanks for the info. I have not seen a blue 340 in a 71 but have seen an orange one in a 72. I understand that engine production changed over earlier than the vehicle did for the model year. They didn’t want the assembly lines waiting on motors if they could help it.
Nicely done. Which model manufacturer would you recommend? I spent my entire childhood building car models and would like to get back into it. Thank you.
Thanks. That is a tough one. They all have good kits and some that I would not recommend for a novice. Best advice is to google a kit for comments or reviews before buying. Some have been repopped some many times that they are pretty worn. Others are very nice but you can’t always tell from the box art.
hi! a beautiful job. let me ask you something. is there a particular genre you went for in this build? show room new, restored, resto mod, etc. for instance.
@@TheMuscleCarModeler I've got an extra 68 Dart parts box, i was thinking of using as the MPC Cuda i have is the all molded one.Not sure what fills in the rear area interior that would be viewable through the big rear window.

hi! a beautiful job.
let me ask you something. is there a particular genre you went for in this build? show room new, restored, resto mod, etc. for instance.
I like to do showroom new most of the time. More like the over restored look. Really depends on how nice the model details are.

Not really. I have a few started 68-69 Barracudas with the Dart chassis in them. They are in my stalled pyle that I have been tackeling.
