    Our eyes were glued to the black and white TV and suddenly Miruts yifter the gear shifter started the decisive killer kick with about 300 meters to go. No one gets nearer him. He was simply out of this world, sprinting as if he did not run 25 laps, winning in a style that is very unique of him. RIP the real legend running.

    Beautiful tactics by both Ethiopia and Finland. It was like watching a soccer game. Viren tried to slow down the pace. Kadir tried to push it. Back and forth. All laid out for Yifter the Shifter. What a trio of 10K'ers: Yifter-Gebrselassie-Bekele.

  • @lamrof
    @lamrof 16 лет назад +2

    Mohammed Kedir's contribution to this win was immense. Miruts was expected to win but the Ethio team wanted to slow the pace down to give Miruts an advantage at the end because of his closing speed. Kedir was grabbing the front and forcing the pace to cool. Varen on the other hand wanted to speed it up. Interesting.

    I find it sad that such a talented runner was denied an opportunity to add to his medal count in two Olympic games of 1976 and 1984. I guarantee, judging by his astonishing performances in Moscow he could have added at least two medals, including gold, to his collection.

    The unbelievable Miruts Yifter, AKA Yifter the shifter, is our hero(Ethiopia's) who will always be remembered.He was the model for all his successors especially the legendary Haile Gebresilasie. Haile said in his interview he was so eager not to miss his races on the radio in the countryside he was brought up. Following Haile, a lot of superheroes/heroines were created including Kenenisa Bekele, Tirunesh Dibaba, Genzebe, Almaz, Sileshi, Workinesh and many others.

    Thanks for posting this. They did not provide much coverage here in the States because of the boycott. I struggle with the doping issue. I look at it as a poor man's altitude training. There are now training centers or at least living quarters that are depressurized to simulate living at altitude. Is that considered to be cheating less?

    A 54.5 last lap, of which Yifter sprinted the last 300. One of the big questions must remain, would Viren have been a double double champion, if the Africans had competed in Montreal. In the clip showing Virgin versus Yifter in a 10K race, the commentators keep saying how magnificent Virgin looks and how tired Yifter seems to be. In the last lap, Yifter left Virgin way (at least 100 m) behind!

    Looking at this in the year 2016 it seems so unbelievable: there's a five man group in the lead with three Ethiopians and two Finns in it! It's just so incredible to see this. Btw., both Viren and Maaninka were doping, but what about the Ethiopians?

    Racketer, your insult towards Lasse Viren are totally uncalled for. Whether or not Yifter was absent in Montreal, the fact remains that Viren was the greatest distance runner of the 1970s. Even in Moscow he ran a true champion's race, just as he had done to deserve his four Olympic gold medals.

    I mean, we can go through them again... he was a dark horse... never ran sub 28 except for olympic years blah blah blah etc. etc. Olympic committee reports showing his hospitalization inbetween heats and races (and also reporting in the same olympic committee report that he had blood exchanges done) , the government monitoring all of his actions along with his teammates etc. etc.

    It was a misunderstanding upon words, but your refutes are much more severe than his said abuse. Upon my understanding you both have some things I don't agree with, but as for handling the situation, your opponent is doing so, somewhat, more indifferently.

  • @MyFreedMan
    @MyFreedMan 13 лет назад

    Anyways, instead of deleting sound arguements off your page you might as well leave them... or is that your tactic? kind of just shove it to the side so you dont have to look at it as sound reality

  • @YiftertheShifter1

    Thanks Raimakusa, but I don't think you'll convince this "racketeer" to listen to you at all. I have no idea what he has against me; we agree on the exact same things, yet he, as you said, just wants verbal fist-fights. I say let him fight with himself.

    Actually I have an extensive understanding upon my wording. And you misunderstand. I am not halting your discussion. I am merely advising that you attempt so with less severity. In other words, try to reply with a bit more understanding, and less with the off-the-bat insults. Communication is vital to a human; it's best to keep it under calm control.

    I dont understand why your calling me names are you mad or something?
    The burden of proof can lie on anyone... so i ask... what documentation do you have other then viren saying he never did anything wrong? The only proof i need is that no one has proved that he hasnt doped. see how you can turn anything against anyone for any reason? i've already listed several reasons to you as to why he is doping... you cannot seem to come up with any reasoning that would conversely turn around my arguements
