  • Guess who's back? Yes, Howard's BACK!!! We sent Howard Ritchie to review the current 2021 model Audi A3 35 TFSI manual, to explore if the critics are right or are just being, critics. Plus we find the cheapest way to get into one ... leasing, of course.
    The MPG of our test car showed 30mpg at its lowest and 50mpg at its highest and that's all credit to the new and clever 1.5 engine, which as you will see we like very much.
    Standard specification includes:
    Audi Pre-Sense Front
    Parking sensors
    10.1in screen
    Audi Virtual Cockpit

    Great review and funny, when so many aren't and try so hard to be. I think quite a few people would disagree with the assessment of the suspension though!

    Oh! And another FYI. The "Ambient light package" is already fitted to every car as it comes out of the factory. You just pay Audi the £110 for a mechanic to put in a fuse.*
    Another great video Howard. Are you watching BBC TopGear executives?

    I ordered a new A3 as a company car back in January of 2022 and told 6 months for delivery, then on the 3rd of May 2022 i was told the delivery date was going to be March of 2023 at the very earliest and this could be extended!! So a 14 + months delivery time. When I ordered it I looked at a 330e BMW but was told they had a 15 months waiting time. Also Mercedes delivery period was 10 months +. I'm seriously considering extending the lease on my current car and just cancelling the order.
    What's wrong with the world?
    I have found out that lots of suppliers have issues with computer chips, resistors, safety glass is in short supply, and paint is a problem. Also steel is a issue to get hold of too.

    I have owned Audis for most of my adult life and I have seen this before. Every so often the accountants get control at VAG and an equivalent of Rover’s “Project Drive” starts (not quite that bad but it gives you the idea). VAG always end up regretting the decision and once the Engineers get control again the product quality and attention to detail returns. Of course the driver for all of this is Diesel Gate and having to invest huge sums of money into EV technology at the same time.

    • @Olliebobalong
      @Olliebobalong 3 года назад +2

      VW have been here twice before regards quality. MK4 golf was well built, MK5 had a step down in Quality, MK6 and MK7 were fantastic, MK8 isnt as good, I'm expecting MK9 or MK8.5 to be improved once again. Maybe this is just to recoup costs and thing will improve eventually, that explained VW cars of the mid 2000's. I guess when income is strapped, you tighten your belt.

    • @paddycoleman1472
      @paddycoleman1472 3 года назад +1

      @@Olliebobalong Hi Oliver, I think we all understand why VAG are doing this (and it is across all their mass market brands) but it is a very short term policy. I can only speak for Audi and it has always been a bad idea and one that Audi lives to regret. VAG’s reputation for quality and attention to detail has taken decades to create and you play fast and loose with this at your peril IMHO.

    • @Olliebobalong
      @Olliebobalong 3 года назад +1

      @@paddycoleman1472 you’re right. My dad worked for VW for 53 years. What they are doing in terms of cost cutting makes total sense in any other industry. I reckon it is short term. Many at VW object against the cost cutting as short term cost savings result in long term reputation damage, but I think they will sort it soon.

    2:40 - Referring to the “entertainment and virtual cockpit” as “free” is a little bit of a stretch... no? Comes in “standard”, better wording, possibly?

    • @spo0n78

      True, comes standard but the standard then again is higher that previous model.

    2013 a3 wuattro, 300k km in harsh conditions,.still rocks. I do not like the trend of Audi, regarding interior quality, interior design, pricing. Q3 and a1 are terrible for the price. I will.change this car with a newer a3, same generation. Should last more than 10-12 yrs only changing the consumables.

    Good review but a dull car. Had one as a hire car through work for a week. The seat is pretty uncomfortable and the visibility is a bit ropey at times. Otherwise its just a standard car.

      A3 Sportback 35 TFSI 150PS S line - so S Line suspension/wheels, i.e. likely to be sport as standard on S Line models.

    1:00 Well I own a 10 year old Audi A3 Sportback and I'm not very immpressed with quality or shall I say lack of quality on that car. For example aluminium rings on the instrument dash are buzzing like crazy when I accelerate, the protection on the shock absorbers persistently falls out of its housing, the sound insulation from the engine bay is poor, so there is nothing premium about that car.

  • @TheManLab7
    @TheManLab7 3 года назад

    Yes, you are right. The interior on the Merc is better. But every time your call it by its name, you have to say cancel or shut up or fuck off. I know this from exspencive so try it out.
    But Audi's are much better looking cars and Mercs are no where near as well built as they use to be.

      @@Olliebobalong Yes he can. It's a brand new car & it's broken already! It isn't the fact that it's "just" a parking sensor. It's the hassle of booking it in for repair & dropping it off/picking it up... on a £30K brand new car.

      Min nya Audi A3 8y sedan har jag haft minst 8 oberoende av varandra fel på bilen på sju månader. Min bil är byggd juli månad 2020 och saknar därmed även möjlighet till trådlös Apple CarPlay vilket tillkom först efter vecka 39 i Sverige så pinsamt dåligt
      sju månader gamla bil har jag haft följande fel
      Batteriet varnar för låg spänning
      Fel indikering varningslampor för drift
      Presenset front
      Bilbältet felmonterat
      Växellådan som är automatisk har låst sig i manuellt läge
      Blinkande mmi display när Apple CarPlay är inkopplad med kabeln .
      Reglage slutar tillfälligt fungera tills man startar om bilen
      Väldigt många skumma och konstiga fel 😑 😡 vilket är synd när bilen är fin för övrigt
