      I must also add, not surprisingly, how very disrespectful you are. Just goes along with my deduction how the music and those who appreciate it have changed. You enjoy yours and I will enjoy mine and never a twain will meet.

    45 years ago, I doubt the fortunate audience at the Rockpalast in Offenbach, Germany realized they were listening to a historic performance. This is peak Linda Ronstadt, and she never played with a finer group of musicians.

    What you say is exactly what I feel about this song. It is beyond sad in what it says about trying to pick yourself up after a relationship that has ended because the other person wants out. You try so hard to convince yourself that that person will no longer matter. Linda conveys that pain, that sadness, that fighting against futility and her musicians give it added depth..

    Another Ronstadt tune (next to "Long Long Time") that Ive never forgotten the words to... still could sing this from start to finish, every single word. As a teen gal in the 70's, I had a few broken hearts that I recovered from with my Linda Ronstadt records... I don't think I would've made it through some of those painful young heartbreaks without her songs to 'put it all into words' for me at the time... (Thank you, Linda), ;-)

    "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" is a pop ballad written by Paul Anka and recorded by Buddy Holly in 1958. The song reached number 13 as a posthumous hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1959, shortly after Holly died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959. The single was a two-sided hit, backed with "Raining in My Heart". "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" was Holly's last US Top 20 hit and featured the orchestral backing of Dick Jacobs. It was also successful in the United Kingdom, where it became the country's first posthumous number 1 hit. (Wikipedia)

  • @ralphbrainard4207
    @ralphbrainard4207 11 лет назад +8

    Buddy Holly's version is triumphalist, like "ha, I'll find someone else". This interpretation is about loss and pointing out the absurdity of how someone who was just really important to you so recently can be just sort of dismissed. Cool how she did that.

      She left "The Stone Poneys" well before this, also no member of the eagles where part of the stone poney's. Glenn Frey and Don Henley briefly backed her up but decided the create their own band. A move which she gave them all of her support and one which they were forever grateful to her. They toured with her band during the mid 70's. Don Henley used to dog the Rock and Roll hall of fame every chance he got for how long it took them to induct her. Glenn Frey inducted her. The Stone Poneys didn't do much after she left, one interesting fact, Different drum their most popular song was written by michael nesmith before he joined the monkee's, it's a small world!

    Dolly said that Ms. Ronstadt was one of the three greatest women singers. Emmylou said "Obviously, she has one of the most gorgeous voices that has ever existed." Pat Benatar said: "One of the most gorgeous voices on earth." This ballad of the broken heart is gorgeous, especially the final refrain "And you won't matter any more".

    On this day in 1975 {July 26th} Linda Ronstadt's "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #47 and spent 4 weeks on the Top 100 chart...
    Sixteen years earlier in 1959 Buddy Holly released his original version; it reached #13 on the Top 100...
    Of course the A-sided fared better, "When Will I Be Loved", peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100 chart...
    Written by Phil Everly, the Everly Brothers took it to #8 in 1960...

    Sorry, you're WRONG:
    Anka also wrote "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" a song written for Buddy Holly which Holly recorded just before he died in 1959. Anka stated shortly afterward:
    "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" has a tragic irony about it now, but at least it will help look after Buddy Holly's family. I'm giving my composer's royalty to his widow - it's the least I can do."
