When Jimin sings "Caught in a LIE" is the only major chord (happy chord), and that major itself is a LIE. the only time this chord happens. It is a hauntingly genius production written beautifully by Jimin.
On the Wings album, each of the members recorded a solo song. The album reflects what they were going through at the time. For Jimin, “Lie” expresses the inner struggles he was going through. Others have commented that the key change in the chorus, from a minor key to a major key reflects the “lie.”

Lie is a masterpiece just like Jimin, if this was performed now i think its absolutely Grammy worthy, some people dont give Jimin the credit he deserves. RM said without Jimin BTS would have been a disaster. He adds the extra magic to BTS performances. I read something that the word LIE is the only major chord(happy chord) which is in itself a LIE. Jimin wrote this song beautifully that the producers didn’t need to edit it.

I remember puzzling over the phrase "caught in a lie." Most people would use the phrase to mean, "Someone discovered that I was lying. They caught me. They saw I was guilty of passing off a lie as the truth." But Jimin's song is more like, "I've been believing a lie. I am caught up in living a lie. It has caught me and won't let me go." The last verse conveys that.
And I'm not saying the phrase is incorrectly used. There are other songs that take a familiar phrase and put a new spin on it. Part of the genius of the song is that it gives us a new perspective on lies. We are used to people saying, "Telling lies is bad! You'll be sorry when someone catches you lying to them." But this song also acknowledges that believing lies is bad, especially lies about ourselves. Living a lie is something that will tear a person apart.
Lie, in my opinion is one of the best produced songs ever. Not just in kpop. Try to listen to the original audio too, where you can hear all the layers. It's a masterpiece
Wow! Finally you are reacting to this and thank you for that. This was a solo song written by Jimin and released in October of 2016, in the BTS Wings album, three years after his debut when he was probably around 21 -22 years old. This song is a lyrical masterpiece . It's musical arrangement is so unique, because it was produced by Docskim. It was the first solo and unpromoted Korean song, from the Wings album, that became eligible for the RIAA certification. This shows that Jimin at that young age had already proven himself as a lyricist, composer and master performer. Vocally, Jimin expressed the song in his mid and lower register which showcased how beautiful his voice really is, not just for the high notes. The chord progression from a minor key to a major chord, all done in full chest voice was magnificent. The song is so unique and difficult because it was not on the usual 4/4 pop beat but on an orchestral style 6/8 beat, it takes a genius and talent like Jimin to manoeuvre and belt it out so perfectly . The orchestral instrumentation over laying the pop melody, is actually from an old Italian Orchestra called Diablo Libre. Thus you hear the ad libbing of the hauntingly beautiful Ooh Woo Hoo Wooh. The dance choreo which Jimin perfectly expresses, the pain and torment he feels in questioning whether he is good enough, is the Lie he is caught in. Anyone who appreciates and loves Jimin knows how specially gifted and talented he is.

Its so great how they use the 6:8 time to give you the feeling of being trapped in a looping cycle, and use the major chord at the chorus to personify the "lie" because in that moment the major is the lie.

The actual melody is a LIE. It has been written that this song is a melodic masterpiece. Jimin is very good at writing melodies. All members have solo and subunit songs scattered throughout the BTS catalog. Some are connected to the BTS universe story line.

Yes, it’s all Jimin, but included on a collective BTS album. The dancers are background dancers. Their concerts include some solo and subunit performances.

The "Lie" that Jimin is caught in, is his lie to himself that he is not good enough. Jimin the ever perfectionist was the trainee with the shortest training time before debut. Jimin was plagued with self doubt, literally living and sleeping in the practice room. RM or Suga not sure which one saif "if hard work is genius, than Jimin is definitely a genius. All of BTS agrees that no one worked or works harder thsn Jimin. This is a Jimin solo performance as is 'Serendipity' yiu should checkout "your guy". Serendipity is a really lovely, melodic and pure Jimin💜

In 2018 V was so desperate for a break he was hoping for an injury as he felt it's the end of the year all the award shows ( Asian and American) were coming up (too numerous to even count) at the end of the year and the schedule is unimaginable. They don't just make albums and tour. They have live music shows, award shows, promotions, photo shoots for endorsements, the have a variety show Run BTS, In The Soop, Bon Voyage, they give speeches at the United Nations, the White House, appear at the Blue House to receive honors for Cultural Merit(spreading Korean Culture). lThe live music and award shows take endless hours of practice striving for perfection as none of their awards show performance are ever the same.. They are constantly traveling as the award shows are all over Asia and America. They still WRITE their lyrics and contribute to the production, learn to play new instruments, exercise. And even with all this they continued their education and all have graduated. They continued to learn English in their "spare time" I guess. HYBE worth is now in the BILLIONS and now considered a CONGLOMERATE because of seven young men's HARD WORK. It's the group's opinion that Jimin is the hardest worker, no one ever said th4 " the only" hard worker.

This song and performance is a peace of art. Magnificent classical sound, deep lyrics, amazingly expressive vocals, beautiful and captivating choreography and mesmerizing Jimin. Jimin had full participation in the writing and composition of this masterpiece. Each solo in the Wings album is related to the BU (bangtan Universe) aka the fictional storyline witch run threw MV and albums since "I need you", specially the short films. So the lyrics of Lie fits to the fictional character played by Jimin but it's also related to Jimin himself, the struggles he faced, and we can feel the authentic emotions and pain. The Wings album revolves around the concept of Hermann Hesse’s novel, ‘Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair’s Youth’, a coming of age piece that uses myths and references to follow the journey of a young boy to self-realization. One of the key points of this book is the importance of accepting the “dualism”, the idea of two opposing forces (maybe good and bad or truth vs fake) that are both necessary in life. This idea is portrayed by Jimin’s solo where we see an inner fight between his two sides, his true and insecure self, and this mask that he created to face the world but is swallowing him up (as in the verse : the prey vs the snake) . It’s a complex song where metaphors, vocal and music composition details mix to vignette a cry for help.("caught in a lie" is the only line of the song in a major key (usually associated with happiness), while the rest of the song is in a minor key (usually associated with sadness, mystery, unease). So, the line "caught in a lie" is itself a lie amongst the rest of the song - the "happiness" is a lie) . Now Lie by Jimin being refered to as a rite of passage for rookie idols, they cover LIE as a show of their vocal and dance capabilities, as the song is considered to be highly technical in both aspects. That key change from minor to major that’s what showed me how genius Jimin is, because he created a lie inside of a lie that only who knows music can understand.. he used a happy coord inside of a sad one out of nowhere showing how he hides his tru self inside of a persona for us. Just genious!! In their book he talks about the creation of this song, the challenge that they gave him, because they gave him the melody but the rest was him. Of course with others songwriters. on BTS albums (starting with the Wings album) each member has a solo song, there are unit songs as well. Credited as 'BTS', but a single member. Not only does it give a chance for each member to be showcased, but it really breaks down the 3 hour long concert, so that they can have longer breaks between performance sets.

I’ve watched many musicians and other in the industry listen and gasp or stop and ask”why did it go from a minor to a major cord.?” True it is surprising but I love hearing why they think they did it. It’s one of Jimins best songs. Was nominated for song of the year , from the bts album I believe. He is so special in my opinion but the voice is very unique, probably the most unique in kpop.
BTS has members' solo songs in some of their albums. For the Wings album, Jimin had Lie, Jungkook "Begin", V "Stigma", RM "Reflection", Suga "First Love", J-Hope "MAMA" and Jin "Awake".
Many said the chorus is the lie because of the change in keys. That's why many reactors find lie very interesting because the chords goes with the title. And there was also a money chord they were talking about that were used by very few artist like The Beatles.

Yes, it is a solo song by Jimin, there came a time in BTS career where within each album there were solo songs by each member.
Also, the entire albums have themes of psychology, things like shadows, ego, your inner self and how you deal with yourself ( LOVE your self).
I don't have any knowledge of music, but some musicians reacted to this song and said it was brilliant, the way they placed a supposed major chord (something like that) and that it's a lie , just like the lyrics and name of the song "lie", The truth is, I don't know how to explain it 🤷🏻♀️.

As many have already mentioned that this is just Jimin with backup dancers. But when I first started watching BTS live performances? These boys dance!!! AND sing, and not just a couple moves. Jimin excels at keeping his song building without hearing a bit of breathlessness!! He writes, produces and performs with perfection. Its time for another BTS cover Nate! Lie could be right in your wheelhouse!!!😊
The lyrics for this song also fit a personal turmoil for me. I’ve been trying to get my smile back, extracting myself from a lie. I kept someone else’s lie because of my shame. He’s dead now; I should be free. I know it’s not Jimin’s story for the sing, but it fit so strikingly well, I was shocked.

In concerts way before they did solo projects this past year they all perform solo special in a concert. It gives downtime for the other members to have rest and delights fans who have a bias. They always share the light.
On the « Wings » album, all the members got the opportunity to sing a solo song among other BTS ones… This is what is so interesting: they’ve had the chance to express their own talent and share their own « universe » with Armys for a long time. And that’s what made them so captivating to me: so different personalities, so different talents, so different genres, all coming up together in a single band… Wow 😍

This was the ultimate performance that every rookie idols want to cover perfectly but somehow they never could.
And to answer your question, from ‘Love Yourself’ albums era, BTS has started to included each member’s solo song (which matched to the concept of their group album theme)in their albums & at BTS concert, each BTS member would take their turn to performed these solo song on mid of BTS concert.
And as you can see, these solo performances has given good opportunities to showcase each member’s individual talents to fans & also gave some breathing room for BTS members to rest before performing another sets of hardcore performances on stage!
It’s jimin’s solo song, he wrote lie, also he has another 2 solo songs under bts name, serendipity and filter,, and has “friends” with tae, he wrote and produced friends, all the member’s have a solo songs under bts name if they included them in bts’s album , also they have their own solo albums/ project under their names, jimin has promis and Xmas love under his name,

Updated Jimin info that some aren't aware of:
❣JIMIN, born October 13, 1995, at age 11, started studying, performing, & competing (winning every competition), in hip hop, popping (excelled), & street dancing, while attending the renowned Just Dance Academy in Busan where he's from! He was so good that an instructor even had the high tuition fee waived at one point! This was while also attending middle school, where he loved sports, being quite athletic, joined the football team, excellent at track, great at basketball, & billiards! Jimin also, all throughout his schooling, was known as a top scholar, achieving perfect scores, especially in math & science which just always came easy to him! Jimin was even class president for 9 yrs in a row! Jimin, all throughout his schooling, was also quite good in art class, as well as calligraphy.
Jimin, then also took up contemporary dance. The media, after seeing a performance of Jimin's performing at a huge Busan Festival Event, called Jimin "The rising star of Busan"!! JIMIN also studied ballet & traditional Korean dance while attending Busan High School of the Arts. Jimin still went to Just Dance Academy to take hip hop classes whenever he could because his first love has always been hip hop, even though he was now majoring in contemporary! JIMIN even had an offer to dance overseas, but declined because he also wanted to become a singer since the 2nd grade, to the dismay of one of his dance instructors who said "The world of dance was going to lose a great artist"!!
So Jimin then went and auditioned for BigHit Entertainment, (company BTS is signed with), being the very last member to officially join BTS on January 12, 2013, (exactly only 6 months before BTS debuted), being a trainee for only a few months (which is unheard of for most Kpop idols), as opposed to the 2-3 yrs of being a trainee the other members had! But Jimin was so good that he was assigned the official title of one of the two Main Dancers, as well as Lead Vocalist. Jimin was even assigned most of the high notes since the very beginning, because even without all that training in the beginning, he was that good, a natural born singer who, just like his dancing makes you feel every emotion and feeling he's trying to convey!
JIMIN, also, for 8 yrs, since a quite young boy, trained in various forms (4), of martial arts: Taekwondo (Blackbelt), Hapkido, Kumdo (Korean form of Kendo), & Chinese martial arts. He even won a scholarship, the only student to do so, to study more extensively in China for awhile! All the martial arts training has given JIMIN his phenomenal inner core strength, as well as his amazing flexibility, which has enabled Jimin to achieve all those breathtakingly spectacular gravity defying dance moves! JIMIN has found a way to incorporate all his various dance disciplines, as well as his extensive training in martial arts into his unique, ever so special, outstandingly amazing dancing abilities!!
JIMIN, has been called 'Stage Commander', known for his amazing, so mesmerizing stage presence. Each dance move is executed flawlessly, his extensions all the way to the fingertips, his lines so clean, his fluidity, his poise & elegance, his ever so graceful moves, but yet, sharp, quick & deliberate when required! Jimin, is an excellent writer, poet, true dancer, he put 100000%of him self in everything he does, there's a lot of their songs, that he help write, plus he wrote the melodies, but didn't mention him in their records, it just says BTS, but in reality is just Jimin.He is so hard on him self, everyone says he's the hard worker of all of them, RM, said that he doesn't think,they would of had made it without Jimin, that's saying a lot, specially coming from RM. lie is the song that introduced me to bts. when i first heard it, i thought this was a very unique song and different from the others, but it was very suitable for Jimin to sing. now i think if someone else sang this song, it feels like this song wouldn't have the unique aura that only Jimin has😊 thanks for this video i have the nostalgia again❤

The concept of the album Wings is unique. There are songs that are solo, as well as just vocal line, and just rap line as well as the whole group.

On the wings album , each of the members recorded solo song , but jimin's lie is the most unique song. Can't believe this is his first song. Lie is the most beautiful song ever ❤️❤️❤️

They give each member solos as they respect each other as artists and pushed each other to grow as musicians. the Rapline encouraged other members to create songs. This helped alleviate the burden of song writing from just the raplines shoulders.
It just falls inline with BTS. Everyone shines in their own way, but together, they create the galaxy (Mikrokosmos- BTS).
I love that every member while doing the recent Solo work introduced themselves as “name” from BTS. Never just their own name but always from BTS. Not as an attention grab but shows, they are forever BTS and don’t need to be separate as the group allows them to be individuals, have a voice, and still be a part of something bigger.
When the members have solo songs on their group albums, it is still listed as BTS as the artist. That is just how they did it. But it is all Jimin and as others have said, the lie is in the change up in the song itself too.

This song is about Jimin's BTS Universe Character's background story. Lie is about him telling his first lie ever and that was that he was fine seeing a little kid being held in an arboretum that he went to when it was raining. The verses are in a minor key because he was dealing with a tragedy. But the chorus was in the major as he was then saying HE was lying now. Jimin helped write the song with RM and helped with the music as well.
Each of them has a song in Wings representing their story, this is the order by song in the album Jungkook's Begin, Jimin's Lie, V's Stigma, Suga's First Love, RM's Reflection, J-Hope's MAMA, Jin's Awake. Each of these represents their fictional story within the BTS Universe.
