I guess I can think in English. My English is like upper-intermediate/advanced (C1) level. Of course it requires a lot of practice to speak fluently. I do a lot of reading (I read novels, usually chick-lit😅 or some adventurous books). When I read... I do not translate the sentences to Polish... I understand 80-90% of them just as they are, I can guess the meaning of some by the context (even then I'm not looking for Polish equivalent, there even might not be any so getting the main idea is more important). I like reading out loud to work on my pronunciation so sometimes when I'm reading in silence I hear the English words pronunced in my head anyway). Sometimes I pause and comment on what I've just read. The other thing I do and it is very good for thinking in English is a lot of listening. If you know enough words... when listening there's no time for translation - you take the words as they are. You just listen and try your best to understand. The more you focus, the better results you get. And the last but not least... I like writing comments. As you said, writing is also a good way to form your thoughts in English🙂

I think an other good advice, when you know enough of a language to do it, is to look at the definition in the language, and not at the translation in your native tongue, when you don't know a word. There are some English words I wouldn't even be able to translate in French, but I just know what they mean and how they are used, and it's really a better way to learn words that are a bit specific to the language.
My mother tongue is Spanish but English always had been my favorite subject when I was at school 🏫 I made animations in english but I always struggle with the pronunciation

What I sometimes do is writing what I've done today, what I did yesterday and what I will do tomorrow, everything in English. I don't write it first in my mother tongue and then translate it to English. I only write it in English and see if I can improve some sentences or add something I forgot. It's a good method for me.
I will apply these tips to German. Right now I'm struggling to get from A1 to level A2. The problem is that I rely too much on English and tend to translate almost everything from German to English, which is my second language. I am trying to remember how I learned English from very basic to almost C1. It didn't happen over night. I kept learning step by step and one day I realised I was actually thinking in English. I don't recall the exact moment when I stopped translating into my head, but I got there. Hope some day I will be as fluent in German as I am in English.
Thats the main thing to focus on, its marathon mot a sprint! Try to make a way to enjoy it more. I started reading illustrated stories in Spanish because I find it more interesting to pick up language
The question is why do you think in English in the first place? Usually, I "translate from ideas to the target language", that is, I verbalize, rather than from one language to another. I try to only use a language other than the target one when it's hard for me to organize my thoughts, but not for a language-to-language translation. The aim is, in this case, to clarify, filter and set my thoughts in a linear way as it is in oral and written language, contrary to the massive and messy cluster of ideas. And that happens to me even in my mother tongue, when another language express the ideas better than my own.
Nice tips! I’m almost C1 but speaking is the most difficult for me since I can’t formulate a thought without translating it I really like British radio but I guess that’s the practice that makes perfect
