Another thing i found with my Dyson doing that "on & off" thingy, is the little blue cylinder filter on top needs to be removed and gently cleaned regularly. I never knew that until i read the instructions manual. That fixed the problem! Make sure the filter is bone dry before re-installing it back in. ☺

thats what it was for me. to test: pull the filter slightly and vaccum as normal. if it stopped happening then its caused by the filter.

I had exactly this problem and I ended up taking everything apart and cleaning it. Still no change. Then my electrical engineer boyfriend came by, took out the battery and squeezed the prongs that the battery fits onto together a bit. Perfect! He said the battery can also simply come a tiny bit loose while you’re vacuuming. Well, that’s true too. So if it stops I just give the bottom of the battery an encouraging thump. Magic!

Had this issue with my Dyson vacuum (a full sized floor pushing one, not the handheld shown here). I disassembled it as she recommended, and sure enough, the problem was that the wand/compartment thing was full of hair and dirt! Pulled all of it out and it worked perfectly as usual. Thank you so much! Quick, informative video!

Funny thing - I tried everything else and never thought to look inside the air stream from floor to vacuum head and found debris in the neck of the floor attachment.
I cleared the debris and now the vacuum is working great! You saved me $500 plus for a new Dyson.
    GREAT JOB!

Worked for me--Christmas tree needles. I would add that the 'sliding bit'--the part you pull to open the dust collector--that can also be easily removed by clicking two red locks and pulling it completely out. That gives you more access to the dust bin and the intake hole, if needed.

Thanks! I never would have realized it was a clogged attachment. It turned out the long (main) tube attachment with the roller head was completely clogged down by the head with a thick, matted dust snake. I've never seen a vacuum attachment get clogged like that, so I didn't think to check. I cleaned it out (yuck), and it's working like new. Saved me from buying a new vacuum!
