      I disagree. I watched Jaws kinda recently and it looks old, and slow and very boring at times. It’s a great movie still and I loved it when I watched it many many years ago.
      I don’t know about back to the future because I have no desire to watch it again, but Jurassic Park, or the Indiana Jones movies, they still look perfect.

      I have met someone like that. A friend of mine doesn't like it because there are too many plot holes. Which is ridiculous to me. Sure, there are plenty of plot holes, but this movie isn't trying to be scientifically accurate or some crap. This movie is a light-hearted but expertly crafted thrill right, and it does that with perfection. Sometimes it makes up the rules of this universe on the spot. And that's okay. Although it doesn't even do that often, because almost every single thing that happens has been alluded to before, was a Checkhov gun, or is a brick joke. This movie is self-referential to the point of insanity, and that only makes it better and more rewatchable. Every little thing comes back later. Every throwaway line is important. Every silly little detail. And that's part of why it's so amazing.

    About the whole “parents didn’t recognize him“ thing: who says they didn’t?
    Let’s say they DID recognize him. What are they going to do? Walk up to their kid and say, “Hey, son, this may sound like a weird question, but... you wouldn’t happen to be a time traveler would you?“
    His parents don’t even know that time travel exists, so they wouldn’t have a reason to suspect time travel.
    I’ve met different people all the time who looks similar, and I just know it’s a coincidence. My parents would never confront ME about looking too much like someone from 30 years ago.
    So yes, it’s very possible that they realized their kid looked similar to the guy they knew in the 50s. But I find it highly unlikely that they would ever come to any crazy conclusions about it.

    • @Mr.Goodkat
      @Mr.Goodkat 4 года назад +4

      Its a new timeline* either way they would never remember him or question it.

    • @bloodyaxe241
      @bloodyaxe241 4 года назад

      I think they would come to SOME kind of conclusion, but knowing how asinine the whole theory is, they would just let it go as the phenomenon that it is. One day, Mary might just confess the whole thing and his parents would be like "you know.....we always kinda knew. We don't know how, but we did." And that's a fine thought for me. It works. I wouldn't even really call it a plot hole so much as a loose end that you leave to yourself to wonder about.

    • @seanf00
      @seanf00 4 года назад

      Well there’s that but also they’ve been living with him all his life, maybe when he was 12 they said “you look like this Marty guy”. Just cause it’s Martys first time seeing the parents in this timeline doesn’t mean it’s their first time seeing him

  • @kellyevenorth
    @kellyevenorth 4 года назад +338

    I don’t know why so many people are bothered by the so-called “plot hole” where the parents don’t recognise Marty. I feel like it’s fair to say the following:
    1. They knew him as a stranger for about a week, MANY years ago.
    2. The details of his face would most likely be a blurred impression for them in later years, unable to be anchored by anything concrete - not a yearbook photo, not anything. He straight up disappeared without a trace. They would most likely remember broad ideas, like that he had brown hair, or skateboarded, or played bizarre music, or acted strangely. Exact details of facial features would be lost.
    3. They would still legitimately be able to remember the mysterious stranger who impacted their lives, and name their third child “Marty.” This would obviously be in tribute to the guy who helped their early romance flourish, NOT because their INFANT resembles Michael J Fox. They would have named him as a BABY.
    4. Marty grew up slowly as a child in front of his parents. His changes through puberty would be a bit more imperceptible for those living with him every day. Their “perceptual set”, or the tendency for people to see what they expect to see, would not easily be able to discern when exactly their young son stopped looking like a seven-year-old child and started resembling a teenage guy they met once thirty years ago. Even if one day they woke up thinking, “hey, Marty is starting to look an awful lot like that guy we met”, this would be impossible to verify without photographic reference and could easily be dismissed.
    Memory is reconstructive and is NOT an exact tape-recording of events. It is easily altered and reworked each time those neurons are fired.
    There are no plot holes in BTTF, end of discussion

The nominees for Best Score in the 58th Academy Awards were Out of Africa, Agnes of God, The Color Purple, Silverado, & Witness. You mean to tell me that not a single one of those bunch is inferior to BTTF's music?

    Back to the Future is my all time favourite movie, and a lot of it has to do with how tight the script is. There really isn't a wasted moment in it. Everything ties together. I'm also a big fan of the potential jokes when you have are jumping through time, since this movie has a lot of humour revolved around giving the punchline in 1985 and then setting up the actual joke later in 1955, so it's full of all those "aha!" moments.
    It's also just exceptionally well acted, the pacing is perfect, it appeals to fans of multiple genres, and never really gets old for me. I've seen it easily a hundred times in my life and I still love it just as much as I did the first time I saw it. I think it's the definition of a perfect fun movie.

    Gonna date myself, but I was 17 the summer that Back to the Future came out. I went on a date with my first serious girlfriend and chose this movie for that date. We both came out of the theater totally amazed at every single bit of this movie. I've easily seen this movie 100 times since then, five of those times were in the theaters before it was pulled as 1985 came to an end. I don't think of my date that night so much as just the feeling I got when seeing this movie for the first time in the theaters. It was only the second movie that did that to me. The first was Star Wars when I was 9 and my dad took me to see it in the theaters.

Then...my mom took me to see Back to the Future..and even as a kid..the one scene that stuck out to me was the skateboard chase. I was mesmerized. I got to see both of those classics that summer! For me....the 80's and early 90's were the peak for movies. Indiana Jones, Back to the Future Trilogy, E.T, Empire/Jedi, Die Hard, Gremlins, Goonies, Jurassic Park, movies today pale in comparison.

      If that were true, the whole plot about Marty having to get his parents back together is completely pointless. Because him changing the past wouldn't have ever kept them apart. Also, there wouldn't be the strange scene where he's shocked about there being breakfast. Nor would Biff have radically changed to where he's out in the back buffing the car. But the point of the movie is that Marty meddling in the past was important, and that he without any shadow of doubt, altered the future through his meddling. You can't watch the film and believe otherwise because... the ending literally takes time to show you how much he changed.
